Change Form Icon At Runtime Or When Button Pressed?
Aug 14, 2009
What I am trying to do is change the icon of a form at either runtime or if a button was pressed. I have had no luck...the only way I found was
vb
Form1.Icon = LoadPicture("c:myicon.ico")
...but I can't use "LoadPicture"
Not much I can think to give in the way of details..

I want to change the icon on the systray during runtime, I've got this bit of code after googling my question.
Dim ico As New Icon(MYPATH & "CDROM01.ICO")
NotifyIcon1.Icon = ico
The thing is mypath can be different between running the prog in the IDE and when it's installed, where is the best place for the icon, and what would the path be?

User may press yes to proceed with saving the record or no to get back to the form. But if no is pressed frmCompany closes along with the msgbox.
ElseIf tbPhone.Text = "" Then
DialogResult = MsgBox("Phone not entered. Continue?", MsgBoxStyle.YesNo, "Warning")

I am noticing a discrepancy between a full path specified for a VBScript Shortcut IconLocation and the subsequent mangled result that only becomes noticeable when I wish to manually change the Shortcut's Icon. Somewhere after the oShortcut.save call, the mangling occurs.
The icon is always properly displayed on the Shortcut. However, programs that exist only in the 32-bit "C:Program Files (x86)" location result in an error message that states, "Windows can't find the file %ProgramFiles%<etc>." (where <etc> is the remainder of the path).
The Visual Basic Script as well as my Command Prompt both show %ProgramFiles% as "C:Program Files (x86)", yet the Shortcut/Windows Explorer dialog always interpret it as the 64-bit Program directory. This may indicate a low level flawed interaction, a contention of definitions.
Input/Output examples:
IN: Hard coded to the call to oShortcut.IconLocation = "<Full Path>,0"
OUT: The text shown in the error message after I click "Change Icon...".
These ONLY exist in "C:Program Files (x86)":
IN: C:Program Files (x86)AdobeReader 10.0ReaderAcroRd32.exe
OUT: %ProgramFiles%AdobeReader 10.0ReaderAcroRd32.exe
[Code]....
Note the %SystemDrive% adds a further insane mangling of the 64-bit path. This one luckily seems to be a benign error for the moment. The errors are not even consistent. Has anyone at Microsoft ever heard of quality control?

I want to change the font on a button to bold after certain conditions exist during runtime.
I tried
Col1Button.Font.Bold =
True
The autocomplete allows me to type it, but it doesn't work. There is an underline under the IDE code. Font is apparently a "Read-Only"property. Is there a way to make it a changable property?

I have a button on my form where I'm showing a ContextMenu when the user left clicks on it, I'm actually using MouseUp right now to show it.What I would like to have happen is the user click on the button, the button stays pressed while the ContextMenu shows, it returns to normal when the ContextMenu closes (Either a menu item was selected, the user hits the escape key or they click/tab to somewhere else). Also I'd like to position the ContextMenu in the lower left corner if the menu opens down or the top left corner if it opens up. So the left edge of the ContextMenu is flush with the left edge of the button.Moreso the button staying pressed until the ContextMenu is closed.
Edit: I'm also ok with this being it's own control inheriting the FW's Button that used the assigned ContextMenu as well.

I am searching for some code to help me take the bitmap contents of picturebox1 and convert it into an icon (*.ico) to save. I cannot for the life of me find anything to accomplish this. There are all sorts of codes that do things like convert bitmap files to icon files but nothing to change the contents of a picturebox as an icon.
