Inheriting Windows Form And Editing The Properties - Customizing The Default Form
Jul 2, 2009So I was wondering if anyone has done their own Forms (inheriting windows form and editing the properties) and if so, what your finished result was. And, if you are willing to post a screenshot of your finished result, that would be sweet! Trying to get some ideas of what can be accomplished with customizing the default form.

Apr 17, 2010I am trying to customize the default binding navigator as i inherit it to my own class and add some buttons to it.every thing gos fine and great as i want it, but the problem is when i change any thing in the AddStandardItems() method class dos not reflect to the existing form which has the same class, i have to remove it from the form and put it again to reflect the changes.This is not good solution, i have more than 30 forms using the same Binding navigator class and it is not possible to remove it form all those forms and put it again.[code]

Mar 15, 2009Supposedly I have a datatable containing 2 columns (controlname as string, containing the name of the control and controltype as string containing the type of the control), for example ("label1", "Label") On runtime i want to loop over the datatable and create the controls from that datatable and add them to the form accordingly. but the problem that i don't know how to convert the control name to a control type, meaning that i want to convert label1 to a type of control Label, inorder for me to set its properties on runtime. so how can i do this and is there a way to convert the string to control according to it controltype.

Jun 10, 2010I have a windows form that contains a panel (Hosting panel for X number of panels). The hosting panel AutoScroll property is set to true.I need to create X number of a panels each will have (Lable and three Radio buttons) at run time. The panel controls must be aligned.So I created a loop in my form load event to add the X number of the panels on the form. I used the location X and Y to position the controls on the form. The loop work fine until it reach the point where the controls host panel needs to enable Auto Scrolling which cause the added panels to be shifted to right. The shifting happened once the host panel auto scroll becomes enabled.

If there are 5 customers details then when i load the form it will add (PictureBox, Label and a listbox) for each customer dynamically and display them with their information. Moreover, if i add 6th Customer information in the database then next time i load the form it should display his/her information as well. In toolbox Select Items I see the items checked but clicking OK or Reset doesn't make them appear in the toolbox. Jun 7, 2009I am making a configuration screen so that an administrator can easily determine what controls on a form are enabled according to a combo selection.
I have created a table (SQL2008 DB) to store the settings and need ideas how I can best implement.
The session form will start up normal with only a few controls enabled to start, but then when the user selects a "session type" from a drop down combo then the form will be configured for that type. Because there may be several different combinations, and I do want to offer the user the ability to add and configure more types as needed I feel like this may be the best method instead of hard coding.

(Edit: I may add an additional DB field so that I can specify the default value of a control also)
Now what I thought I would do on the config form is have a series of combo boxes and the label represent each control with a value of True or False, then when saved it builds a string like example 1,1,0,1,0,1,1,1 or True, True, False etc.
The string would represent
ctrl1=on, ctrl2=on,ctrl3=off,ctrl4=on,ctrl5=off,ctrl6=on,ctrl7=on,ctrl8=on and so on.

In my program, I created a list of a class that contains 5 picture boxes, a button, a label, an identifier, and some other stuff. I've got roughly 65 of these in this list. I'd be stupid to hard code all that in. The identifier is a 2nd way of identifying which specific location I'm working on.
Anways, all this is created at compile time. Works perfectly fine.
I then manually start a background worker that pings a collection of components. Based off the success of those pings, the picture boxes are enabled or disabled. Basically a proactive way to see if a collection of devices over multiple locations are actually working.
It's the background worker that fails because of thread-safe calls.

Printform doesn't work - even with the scrollable option it only prints the visible screen.
The PrintDocument doesn't work, because I can't add controls to it.
I can't capture the screen image, because the form occupies more than the visible screen.

Jun 10, 2010I have a Windows Form application compiled to a .exe that contains standard classes and one windows form class. I would like to reference that .exe in another project. The dialog to add references shows .exe, I add the file to my project, I can see the classes from that file but when I run the second executable I get a "cannot load type" error when I try to access the classes contained in the referenced .exe
That behavior seems strange to me since the IDE accept the .exe as a reference and even "intelisenses" its classes.
I do this because I want a standalone version of the form, but I also reuse it in other project. Am I doing it wrong, what's the best practice in my scenario? I'd rather not maintain both a Class Library project and a Windows Form project that includes the same code.

Jun 4, 2011I am making a TabStrip control to hold a number of tabs just like TabControl, but only with the tabs, no page. The control has a "Tabs Collection", which stores a list of "Tab" class. "Tab" is not inherited from Control, but each tab has its events. So when the user add a "Tab" in the "Tabs Collection", each "Tab" instance should have a (Name) identifier, which user can access it in the code, and with WithEvents keyword so users can add event handlers to each "Tab". The expected out come should similar to this:

Jan 7, 2011Yesterday I opened Visual Studio (2008 v 9.0.30729.1) and all the winform classes in my project display with class module icons with the little 'VB', instead of form module icons with the little form icon!
When I double click on a form module, the form designer doesn't open, just the code module.
When I run the project, it runs fine. There are no errors. The project builds fine.
I did Project --> show all files, and I can see the designer and resx files below the form module which doesn't look or act like a form module.
I can't open my forms to design them!
Customizing The Combo Box?
May 18, 2009is it possible to have a background image repeat it's self for every listing in a combobox? so when i click the arrow on the combobox, it has a a set smiley image for every added item.. maybe even a different smiley for every listed item... not sure it's possible though, maybe i have to create a self resizing form that acts like a combobox when clicked on a button.
