So I was wondering if anyone has done their own Forms (inheriting windows form and editing the properties) and if so, what your finished result was. And, if you are willing to post a screenshot of your finished result, that would be sweet! Trying to get some ideas of what can be accomplished with customizing the default form.

The following code does create a form within a form and does place NotePad inside the child form. You have to manually start NotePad prior to execution (I work on that later) but the code does workŠ My problem is now I want to manipulate the properties of notepad i.e. focus, size, location, etc. but I cannot figure out how to reference notepad and its properties.

I have two forms....Mainform is filled with controls that are databound to a datasource.....then I have a child form that is used to edit data from parent form.......the data that is displayed on the child form uses the Filter() method of the binding source to display data only for the customer selected......
The child form has the standard OK and CANCEL buttons set up as dialog result.......after I edit the content in child form, the changes are displayed on the child form correctly......but when closing the child form and going back to the parent form the changes dont appear there unless I restart the application.....I also tried adding the tableadapter.update/fill method in the 'OK' dialog result event handler and it still doesnt work......
How can I make the changes take effect on the parent form without restarting the application?
I created a base form that has a specific size and an icon as a base for all forms created in my project (to be consistent in looks). The problem is, for some reason if I add a Text box to the Child form, I can no longer execute shortcuts like Copy (CTRL+C) etc into the Textbox.
What should I do to handle this OTHER THAN writing code to capture those on the KeyUp control?
This is also the case for RichTextBox control as well.
basically i was wondering if we could inherit shared variables but restrict its scope to only that of the class itself.

no code, just a form thats width 292 and height 266 This code works but its very choppy when the slider form slides up. Also, i am unable to get the opacity correct as well where it fades in and then out when it leaves.

The code editor will not recognize when I type Form1, and I obtain the following error when I manually type it:form1' is not declared.I sense there is something I can do here which is very easy to fix this, but I have not worked much with Classes before.
I'm trying to figure out how to set the form's location/size before calling the .show method. I figured out the location part, but still can't figure out the size part. No matter what size I set the form to in the designer, it never uses that, so I figured I would set it with code right after setting the location.

View 3 RepliesI have multilingual application that was done in VB2005.We recently had a request to translate the application to Arabic (Egypt), so I have been happily running through all of the forms and changing the layout for Right to Left format.I have 2 forms that are problematic though.On one form, whenever I select Arabic (Egypt), it will automatically switch the selection to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and try to add an ar-SA resx file.On the other problematic form, if I choose Arabic (Egypt), the IDE will automatically select Chinese (People's Republic of China), then copy the contents of my ar-EG resx file into the zh-CN file, overwriting all of our Chinese translations and layout changes with the Arabic ones.

I've never used nested SELECTs in SQL before so I'm not sure if I did it right. Aside from that, this is all stuff I've done before so I'm relatively sure that it's all correct. Finally, there are no errors being reported when I debug, although the updates don't seem to be coming through from the text fields (txtContent.Text isn't changing to reflect the new value).

My app has four forms which accept user input and form a string for output to printer. In the eventuality that the user notes a mistake in the input after leaving the app, I would like to develop a structure to "save" the user input at the form level and allow for repopulating the text boxes with the prior user input. Make sense? I have no idea how accomplish that functionality. Maybe it's too complex for my purposes. What do the pros think?

View 4 RepliesI have a basic Windows form with one Crystal Reports form veiwer control on it. When ran on the development machine it displays the report fine.After build and publish the application is now installed on a user PC. I am getting an error that the Crystal Decisions. Windows. Form version 12.0.2000.0 can not be found. All the Crystal dll's are in the install directory but none of them are being installed in the install machines GAC.Am I setting my publish output up wrong, may references wrong, or is the local GAC files the problem. The message is so criptic, it doesnt really point me in the right direction.

I assumed it would be the same in VB2008 but I get the error.'cmbDataTable' is not a menber of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form'I am working my way through the project, first updating the global procedures - this is one - I haven't written the calls so cmbDataTable doesn't yet exist.
FormA calls DialogB where user cancels DialogB which exits via ForceTermination(), see insert.Caller FormA check for DialogResult not = OK, which it isn't, and I can see this in debug as Abort(3).However, the code continues merrily along its way until I get a 'null reference' error which I'm trying to avoid via Force Termination().This is caused by the user cancelling DialogB, a selection process to get a database (SQL) instance.[code]
