ComboBox Hidden Behind Button Not Triggering On Click Event
Jun 26, 2012I'm converting an old VB form to .NET, and there a few Buttons which each have a corresponding ComboBox hiding behind them. The previous behavior was that you'd click the Button, and that would trigger the ComboBox behind it, which would then drop down a selection list. I believe the idea was to have a static color and text label (which cannot be a selectable option in the drop-down list), with the functionality of a ComboBox.
Now, in VB.NET, clicking on the Button (which is directly over the ComboBox in the form) won't trigger the ComboBox dropdown anymore. However, if I make the ComboBox visible enough to click on, it will trigger the ComboBox.TextChanged event, and show the drop-down (they're set to the DropDownList style). I've set the event handler to handle both that event and the Button event. I've tried Button.MouseDown, Button.MouseClick, and Button.Click -- none of which have worked.
I did find the SplitButton control option suggested here, which would probably do the job, but I don't want to have to integrate a non-native control for just 3 buttons. I don't really want to mess with the control template, either

Again the code clicks the button, but doesn't save the information so I figured it has something to do with the hidden value. I've never seen this problem before so I don't know where to go from here.

Jun 29, 2010I've been having a hard time trying to figure out why some values, which happen to be foreign keys, are not passing between my stored procedure and my code on a button click event. I keep receiving the error, "Procedure or Function 'sp_OrderTracking_Update_UpdateItem' expects parameter '@depotRefnbr', which was not supplied. This is happening on the line in red. As far as I can see, the @depotRefnbr is being given a value. It appears that other values, which are not foreign keys are passing fine. [Code]

Combo Box With Hidden Values?
Nov 10, 2010I have a combo box that is tied to a binding source that loads a list of users from a table. Currently the list of users is a List of String object type. When a user selects one of the users from the drop down, a list is filtered down based on the selection. To do that I currently have to requery the User Table to grab the UserID column of the user selected, which seems a bit inefficient to me.
Is there a way that I can assign a custom object with two properties (UserName, UserID) and have only the User Name is displayed and when I have to filter the list, I already have the UserID, so there is no need to requery the database.

Get Or Set Values Of Hidden Text Box?
Feb 28, 2011Having come from the MS Access IDE, I have used hidden text boxes to store information needed on a given form. Often they are data-bound and the program needs to reference the data but the end user does not need to, or should not, see them.
I am very surprised to find that in .NET, you cannot do this. Making a control visible=false should be a UI decision, but the value should still be programaticaly available. Am I just missing something, or is this truly a limitation in .NET?

Oct 19, 2010I have a calculator like program which has a function to export a string ('StringBuild') to notepad .The process start OK but it has a funny problem. When I run Process.Start it also keept running a sub that I had linked to one of the calculator buttons.I played around with the code but now it runs a hyperlink that I have on the calculator. I even tried adding an empty, hidden, button as the last item on the tabindex to see if that would work but it hasn't.

Mar 23, 2009I have a vb.net application that uses Flash movies (AxShockwaveFlashObjects.AxShockwaveFlash). I have buttons in the flash movie. When they first start using the application, they can single click on the buttons in the flash movie and button responds accordingly. But after a while (and I haven't been able to pin-point an exact thing that changes it or my issue would be solved), the user has to double-click on the button in the flash movie for them to work.

Renders to the page as a button of lets say cancel after the user clicks it i want to catch the click event (within the server control) and now after the click makeing the button not visible and makeing some kind of content placeholder (that will render from the server control) visible. that content place holder will have 2 buttons inside of it: yes and cancel. I want the programmer that adds this control to be able to register a function to the click event of the yes button. and the second cancel confirmation button should make the first button appear agian. (i know how to do this all in the client side but this time i need it all as server events)
My question is this: how do i catch the click event? i want it all to be handled inside the server control itself. so a programmer that adds this control wont have to worry about anything but just needs to register to the click event of the "yes" button.

- Take dates from Main.VB and populate 2 fields in MS Access form (done)

- Load a file name into a filed in the Stage_2 form (Done)
- Do a click event in MS Access linked to a button called Pre_Stage_copy on Stage_2 form (How do I do these?)

Jul 13, 2011I have a basic window that has 20 buttons (One, Two,.....,Twenty).Currently if you click on a button its background color changes, and changes back on next click.I'm looking for a way to make it so when the mouse button is held down I can drag across the screen and it will change every button I hit.Disregard the "Shut Down", "Restart", "LogOff", "Clear", and "Invert" buttons. This idea doesn't apply to them.

We have a ListView containing some commerce items and the user can click on items to put them in a shopping cart. Mar 15, 2010I have a button on my form where I'm showing a ContextMenu when the user left clicks on it, I'm actually using MouseUp right now to show it.What I would like to have happen is the user click on the button, the button stays pressed while the ContextMenu shows, it returns to normal when the ContextMenu closes (Either a menu item was selected, the user hits the escape key or they click/tab to somewhere else). Also I'd like to position the ContextMenu in the lower left corner if the menu opens down or the top left corner if it opens up. So the left edge of the ContextMenu is flush with the left edge of the button.Moreso the button staying pressed until the ContextMenu is closed.
Edit: I'm also ok with this being it's own control inheriting the FW's Button that used the assigned ContextMenu as well.
