I have two forms. 1 a login form, 2 The default application.
I would like the user to be verified by form 1 (Login Form) and if verified to open up form 2 (Default Application). I cant get this to work....

View 5 RepliesI have a code snippet that I want to run when the app is closing. So, I used FormCLosing event. But now i wanna place a confirmation message for exiting. Like, if the user clicks the Exit(X) button, there'll be a prompt, if he clicks NO, then the app will not close and revert to previous state. Now I find that hard to achieve using FormClosing event. because it'll get executed no matter what button the user clicks.
View 1 RepliesI have a main form that has a button with which a smaller form is shown. Think of the smaller form as the Find/Replace dialog in many applications, such as Notepad. It's important that the form is (what I believe is called) modal. What I mean is that it always stays on top of the main form. I ensure that by calling the Show method with "Me" as the owner argument. Whenever the small form loses focus it will not disappear into the background but stay visible (albeit out of focus). If you don't understand open up Notepad and have a look at the behavior of the Find/Replace dialog.
Here's my problem: instead of actually closing the form when the X is pressed, I want it to simply Hide itself, so its position and the state of any controls (checkboxes etc) is preserved automatically.To achieve this I simply cancel the FormClosing event and Hide it:

Now. When I run my project, and open the Form2 (small form), then hide it again (by 'closing' it), I can no longer close the main form (Form1)! It seems the main form cannot close when the small form still exists (albeit invisible)...?? When I don't use the Me argument in the Show method, I don't get the behavior I want. I know I can set the TopMost property to True but that will also cause it to become visible on top of all the other forms, even windows not part of my application.
I have set up a notify icon for my form. I want to make it so that when the user clicks the close button that it doesn't close the form it just takes it to shows the notify icon. They can exit the program from the notify icon. Can someone tell me how to keep it running?

I try to transfer a vb6 application to vb2010. In the vb6 I start with a login panel that the user enter uid and password autenticate with the DBServer if ok show application main menu and close the login form. the order of the me.close() after the mainform.show() does not change, The application ends.

View 6 RepliesI have a situation where me.close() doesn't close the form. I have a form with a button with the code seen below. What happens when the button is clicked is the new form shows, but the original form(calling form) is still there. When I go into debug mode, I can see the me.close() execute, but nothing happens (calling form stays open). When I close the second form both forms close. If I comment out the call for the second form to open the first form closes without problem.

i would like to take a selected aircraft type from a previous form and put it into the form i am working on at the moment, but i want to edit the string so it only has 4 characters.I thought the above line would do it but apparently not. the error is to do with the length.An example:the model in 'the other' combobox is A330-200/-300 and i would like to put A330 into the new combobox cmbType in the above code.

I have a total of 4 forms, the first three of which have information that is totaled on each of those three forms respectively .I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up a final page where each total amount from the first 3 forms will end up on the 4th form so that the sum of the totals from the first 3 forms will add up, and then so I can add 7% on for taxes on this project.I am using both radio buttons and check boxes for the first three forms (and I'm not certain if this would be an important factor).I had been looking at creating a listbox, but I'm not sure if it would be possibly to get the previous totals to show up correctly there, so I suppose I'm just looking for a way to have the "products" from the first three froms show up in a list along with their prices, and then be able to add on the tax and total them all together.

I have several forms that are "reused," or vistited more than once per each time in the whole program. In VB6, using Form.Show() would show the form in its original state (the state is was when created in the designer). After closing this form (Unload Me), showing it again would still show the form in its original state.
I am coding in VB.NET 2008, and noticed that when I reopen a form I had closed during a session using my program, the form is in the state it was when I closed it (labels and listboxes filled with data), and not in its original state. I currently have the Form.Closing event filled with code to clear all of the controls, but I think that there must be a better way to "clear" or "reset" the form.
I have two forms, forms a and b. Each form has a combo box. The user selects an item from form A's combo box and saves their selection to a database by pressing a button. How can I display their combo box selection from form A in form B's combo box on form B's form_load event?
View 1 RepliesI'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

The insertion part of the form works great. But my problem is in the form load part......If i leave a field blank(Null),then perform Save operation,close the form after successful insertion and then reopen the form,then it retains the previous values during the form load......This is only in case where i leave a field blank in the previous data entry in the database.......But if i enter values in all fields then form load is working great.
I want the coding for next and previous button and its given on my form. I want to fetch the records from my database and display it on my form.

So far i have managed to get a new instance of my form to open with the right url, but i am unable to keep that new form open when the orginal parent form closes.
