View 1 RepliesI am using this routine to send one line of text to a serial port.The text file is made of many lines. This code works except for TextBox1 line.I like to print * signs for every line sent to indicate the system is working.[code]The routine waits and pumps out all of the * signs after the transmission is completed.
1- How can I place one * per line of transmission in TextBox1?
2- Is there an easy way to add 15milisec of delay at end of each line?
I have a standard TCP socket established over WIFI with a peer.During the connection I transfer packets of data both ways.At one point in my program on the PC, the peer receives an errant read event with zero bytes and a 'close connection' command although my PC program has not issued any writes on the stream. It occurs at a similar (although not the same) point in my PC code, usually when I am making a collection, processing data and adding things to the collection. I have checked, and there is definitely no writes occurring from the PC end during this period.There is no problem with the WIFI and anyway, it always happens during the same piece of PC code, therefore it is generated on the PC by my code. I can put a checkpoint in and wait and then run the code, and then the peer will receive the errant transmission at some point during that code execution.
1. Is this normal for socket programming or is this likely to be a bug or an error?
2. Is there anything that can trigger a socket transmission without explicityly coding it?
3. Is there a way of stopping any transmission across the socket whilst not using it? i.e. a temporary hold
Like the title says, i have a code written in vb.net that receives data from a PIC microcontroller via rs232, but i need a way to know when te trasmission ends. I have put the word "END" in the microcontroller code so that after he sends all the data , will send the word "END" ..so i need to implement this in my vb.net code and when "END" is received to display "finish" popup message.

It is not perfect because the programma crash when there is no usb in de PC.But how do i search fot the sctick if it has a name , for example PPH ? And not G: , because it is everytime a different station.
I'm trying to pass a data packet from the serial data received event.The code can capture the data without any issues.I'm spinning my wheels on getting the data packet out of the thread for further processing.[code]

I've wrote a program that send and receives data via a serial port to a microcontroller. At present when I click (from a menu strip) a certain option I send data such as
Private Sub MsToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MsToolStripMenuItem.Click
SerialPort1.Write(1)
End Sub
What I am wanting to do is instead of sending the data just once when I click this option, I want it to repeatedly send it until I select another option where the same occurs again and so on.Is there a function that acts like a while (1) loop that can do this?
I have simple udp client and server using UdpClient class in .net frame work 2.0. My Ip address is 192.168.5.20
and client ip address is 192.168.1.25 and we client pc and mine are on same network. When i tried to send udp packet from client to server exception occurs: "A socket operation was attempted to an unreachale host 192.168.5.20:10080..." But when i change my(server) IP address to "192.168.1.20" communication is fine.How i can solve this problem or,how i can send packets other than my domains ip addresses.
Im working on a HSD 32 bit data bus to serial converter via a microcontroller. Now first I want to make a sort of data sniffer to read the data bus (32Bit) .All on the controller side is working and the stream of bytes are coming in via RS232 as 4 bytes in HEX like FD,A5,45,8B . I already converted the bytes in Dec and ASCII to determine what is passed true the bus and how fast and stuff.. Now that is all correct and working very well if the LSB (least significant bit) of the 32 data bus is Data line 0 and the MSB (most significant bit) is Data line 31 but if that is not the case I need to invert the 32Bits (like as I would invert the connector on the bus) . How do I best do this using the 4 bytes I send from the micro controller.
Example:
(MSB) 01001000 01100101 01101100 01110000 (LSB)
HEX= 48 65 6C 70
DEC= 72,101,108,112
ASCII= H E L P
I need to invert it with a button to:
(MSB) 00001110 00110110 10100110 00010010 (LSB)
HEX= 0E 36 A6 12
DEC= 14,54,166,18
ASCII= (SO) 6 : (DC2)
i am a absolute beginner and i want to use vb to receive data from micro controller through serial port using rs232 standards, i found this code to receive the data serially, can any one tell me where should i paste this code, so that the data received will be displayed in message box.Private Sub DataReceived(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) HandlesSerialPort1.DataReceived

I'm currently working on a project where I am transmitting data from a comm device via the serial port and resorting the raw data (in binary) to its respective ascii values. The problem I'm facing is determining the most efficient method to accomplish my goal. Essentially, I have 68 bytes coming in, the first and second bytes represent the page and packet number and the data itself ranges from 3 to 64, the remaining for my checksum.
What I am needing to do is, grab 50 consecutive bytes per variable in my array, and that is where I'm confused. I have easily pulled my 3-64 bytes and stored that data to a string. I just don't know the most efficient method to accomplish my goal. Should I write directly to file all my data, as there are like 8 pages, of 128 packet data. [Code] I can capture the the first 50 by using a for-loop easily, but what would be the preferred method to track what data chunk I've taken? The more I think about it, I think I may just want to write to file, all my data, and then just take them back to back in 50 byte chunks. Is that the most efficient method?
I am using Visual Basic express to create a serial interface to a multi-room audio controller. I have started by creating a form that can connect to the controller and I can receive data from the Controller and display Zone status, volume etc in corresponding texts box thaks to help from Stanav and Tassa in my previous thread.
My next problem is to do with receiving lots of data from the serial port and my application getting out of sync. This is mainly caused by turning the volum control as each time it is turned a little bit the controller sends out the new status of the Zone being effected
eg
****Turning Volume knob on Zone 1***
Status returned from Controller:
#Z01PWRON,SRC3,VOL05<CR>
[Code].....
Public Class my_class Dim WithEvents COMPort As New System.IO.Ports.SerialPort
Public Sub FindReader()
Dim ports As String() = IO.Ports.SerialPort.GetPortNames()
Dim port As String
For Each port In ports
[Code3]...
When it runs, it shows a single COM port "COM1". I am assured that the device attached to it is a standard 8,n,1 and uses 9,600 baud. The exception is "Acess to the port 'COM1' is denied".
im currently working on a program which prints serial text to an aplication like note pad. the problem im having is that i cant figure out how to change which serial comport is being used in code. i want the user to chose the comport with a check box.keep in mind that COM1 in my code is what i called my check box. here is my curent code:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub OpenFileDialog1_FileOk(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles OpenFileDialog1.FileOk
Shell(OpenFileDialog1.FileName, 1)
[code]....
I am having my app available for 30days free trial, but after that you have to purchase a serial, how can i make my app only recognize a specific type e.g NumberLetterLetterNumberLetterLetterNumberNumber-NumberLetter-Letter:NumberNumberNumberNumber?
OR what would be the easiest way to have serials recognised?
I am programming in visual basic 2008 I would like to set up serial numebers for software im developing. I would like to prevent software theft by ensuring that each purchased copy has a unique serial number that can only be used once. How would i create this so
a.) The serial numeber can only be used once
b.) The software cannot run without a correct serial number
c.) The serial number verification box pops up on ONLY the first use of the program and goes away after correct serial number is entered
d.) a serial number generation and verification program
I am working on serial key. but i have set everything but i dont know the code for combo box like i have list of stuff example
John admin
jonny goodmnan
So when people select this name then the phone number should appear on the textbox
like this
John adam
1234567890 should appear on the txtbox
I dont know any code to show thats why i dont have any idea what to add the phone numbers
I need code to read a serial port state in which I have 2 buttons attached to some configuration on pins 1-9. The program will then, when one of the buttons are pushed, right arrow or left arrow as a keyboard command.

But now I want to print a barcode label when printer connected serially(through USB).
I have to send the user-input data to the serial port. From the serial port the Modbus controller reads the data in Modbus/RTU mode.Now consider the following:Private WithEvents sp as serialport Now when I send sp.Write "192" to the serial port, I was that the complete data go as one data packet. Instead what I find that when this data is sent to a hardware controller, I find that the serial port first transmits 1, then 9 and then 2. Because of this my modbus does not recognize this data and throws and error. I tried sending "12" and again i find that it goes as "1" and then "2". Is there any way to send the data as one data packet so that my modbus can read "192" as one data packet value and not as 3 data packets of 1, 9, and 2?
View 3 RepliesI am using Visual Basic express to create a serial interface to a multi-room audio controller. I have started by creating a form that can connect to the controller and I can type commands into a text box and have set up a button that sends that text to the serial port. This text is displayed in a big text box as well as the feed back from the serial port (multirom audio controller).
Here is an example of what I send and receive to and from the controller;
I send *Z01STATUS (query's the Zone 1 status of the controller)I then receive the data from the controller #Z01PWRON,SRC4,VOL99 (This tells me Zone 1 is on, Source 4 is selected and the volume is at level 99 I can easily create buttons to turn the zones on and off and control the unit. My problem is I want to make things change on my form coresponding to the data received. ie I want to display the current volume of each zone and whether thetay are on or off etc. How do I get the individual bits of data from the data received. IE how do I get the VOL99 to show 99 in a text box?
I've seen this great example of serial communication in VB.NET
[URL]
I try to use it in a project I am working on but somethings are not clear to me.
1: Now the send and received data is shown in one RichTextBox but I would like to split this into two RichTextBoxes (RtbSend and RtbReceived).It is unclear to me how and were data is assigned to the RichTextBox?
2. the received data is shown in the Richtextbox as one long line, I would like to get a new line for every send message.So for example: I I send "test" four times, I would like to see:
Test
Test
Test
Test
now I see: Test Test Test Test I've tried ctrlf but this does not work.The example describes that "comPort_DataReceived" is executed when data is waiting in the buffer. Where can I see the eventhandler responsible for this? How does it know data is waiting?The problem is this kind of coding is a bit to difficult for me. I want to understand the code before I implement it into my project.
The vb.net code is functioning correctly as it talks to a device through COM1 serial port.What I was hoping was the equivalent c# code is not creating the same string and as a result, the serial 'packet' is not correct. Check this illustration of my problem [URL]...
My goal is to eliminate the addition of the extra characters '/0' and '/b' that what I hoped was the c# equivalent to the correctly functioning vb.net code. It just occurred to me I should change the code to employ Stringbuilder. The 'packetbuilder' method/function builds a string and keeps concatenating things to itself.

I want to connect to serial port and get the data from that using vb.net how to do this.........
i have found one sample and i tried that but in that datareceived event is not firing
how to write code to read data from the serial port. I have a microcontroller connected to the serial port and I need the C++ program to read the input and to perform a certain task according to the information.
