i am having problems trying to code this application, here is the assignment: Amusing Toys, Inc. wants to store the description and the number of items on hand of its toys in a sequential access file named stock.txt. The company's sales manager wants an application that lets the user enter the descriptions and the inventory in tow list boxes. Then he also wants to retrieve the file so it is possible display the inventory of a toy whose description he selects from a list box. The List box with the description should appear as soon as the application is loaded. Create an application which: initially adds the information to list boxes so the information can be checked, places the data in one or two arrays, saves the information for retrieval later, contains test data for at least 10 items.here is what i have so far i cant get the information to line up correctly in the list box from the text file and also i have no idea on how to get the quantity to show up after i get it to line up correctly i think i need an array.

I have a WebBrowser control on a form and pass HTML code to it to "preview". This works fine in development on a Win XP machine but on the target machine with Win 2K it just shows the HTML code in the control and doesn't parse it.

Trying to get some VB practice after a long time rest, but I'm having some issues even getting a new solution open. I'm creating a vb.net winforms application that will take in user given strings, parse them, and print out labels with variable information. The given string will be used in all the labels, but the variable part of the string will change with each label.
My question is: is it better to parse the strings one time, then store those values in arrays, or to parse the string each time a label is printed? Which will perform better? Which is better practice? What is the proper way to test something like this?

Your program will calculate an average score, list each of these scores in a new Excel workbook and show whether each score is below or above average. I need help to form a code for a small arrays manipulation. The input data are known: they are two integers "N" and "s". An integer "N" is always divisible by 4.I need to create an array of "N" members, by repeating (N/4 times) this sub-array: 1,2,2,1 (always is the same). In the picture, this is shown in blue. Then I need to add the same array to the existing array, but shifted for "s" places (red array). The result is "yes" if each sum in new columns is always the same (3). Otherwise the result is "no." note there is no need to draw or display something (DGV, table ...). The required result is only "yes" or "no".

In VB6 I load a recordset containg all of the records (6 fields per record)in a table into an XArray and then manipulate the records in the array and then write them back to the original table. The array issorted by the first field (1 to maybe 8000 or more) I need to find records in the array by an ID field and then move them (because of some external criteria that happens many times) from say number 400 to number 375. Then all of the other records between 375 and 399 were renumbered up 1 to fill the gaps left by the move.
The XArray worked well as it could find and also move to a next record easily to facilitate the revisions to each record quickly. Everything is done in VB6 in code and nothing visual needs to be shown to the user until say 2000 of these external changes are complete. What is the best, most efficient way to do this in the .Net framework in VB2010. Datasets, Dataviews. tableadapters, arrays. enums ?

I have a VB.net console app and I am opening a function in a dll written in fortran. I am passing 3 arrays through the function by reference. When they come back out the otherside they ahve all tunred to arrays of only one element And that element is 0.I read on the internet somewhere that when doing this kind of thing it is a good idea to only pass the first element of the array into the function.I tried changing my function declaration to accepting single elements rather than single dimensional arrays, and now the arrays are the same length before and after the function call, but they don't seem to be changing at all, so i'm not sure that this is working

Been working on a function in my program that uses an embedded web browser to take the user to a certain website. In this case, I want it to search www.rhapsody.com for music tracks. The problem is, the parsing is all screwed up. The form can't send a multi-worded parameter.The function is like this:

It puts the user input as a search query in the URL. This works fine for songs that are only one word. But when I try something like "I love you," it takes me to rhapsody saying:
Track Search Results: i%20love%20you
It's an annoying %20 parser thing in between each word. Is there a way to address this parsing problem? Somehow get the form to send the search to the web browser without the %20?

besides still being a newbie to programming. I need to import the information from a xml document into a sql server 2005 database. I have spent the last week searching the web trying to figure out how to do this. IIf Function parse both the true part and false part while evaluating the expression.. Am i missing anything? Try this statement and let me know!!

I am parsing some xml entries using the xmltextreader and looking for the elements I need by using different textreaders for each in a different loop as follows:
Dim treader As XmlTextReader = New XmlTextReader(New StringReader(item.ToString))
While treader.Read

content = treader.ReadElementContentAsString

and I do the same for each element I am looking for. Now the problem arises when I get the results for each. I use an arraylist for each element and at times I will have an unequal amount like 100 for summary, 100 for title , 99 for id etc...is there a more efficient way of doing this by checking the entry if all the nodes are there and then just skipping it if it's not.

I'm having some trouble putting the pieces together.First of all, I'm currently using the WebBrowser component, but would be plenty happy with HtmlAgilityPack if it had some decent documentation, but for a newbie as VB.Net, it's a rough road.
