I am in the right forum. My apologies if this is a stupid question, I am a relitively inexperienced coder.
I have a VB.NET program that writes to Excel 2003. On testing the program works fine as long as I add the PIA's to the target machine prior to use. To avoid this problem when this roles out to clients, I wish to add the PIA's as a prerequisite. I have sorced the redistributable versions for 2003 here:

I'm attempting to create an app which uses a vendor-supplied Web Service. They provided sample code to show how to work with the Web Service, but all the code is in C#.. not a huge deal.I opened one of their demo projects and it compiles fine, works perfectly.
So, I open up MY project, drop in the converted code and... wait for it... ERROR!Here is the working C# code that IS working:
C#
private void DoSomethingWithTheAlarm(G4T.enAlarmAction action) { XML_AlarmClearRequest[] ClearRequest = new XML_AlarmClearRequest[lstAlarms.SelectedItems.Count]; int idx = 0; foreach (ListViewItem lvItem in lstAlarms.SelectedItems) { ClearRequest[idx] = new XML_AlarmClearRequest();
[code]....
How they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?
And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?
BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.
I create a new Windows Forms application and add an AboutBox form which is built-in into Visual Studio. I add a button to Form1 to show the AboutBox when clicked. The AboutBox form has a label with the text "Version" on it. The following code is supposed to add the application's version to that label at run-time:
Me.LabelVersion.Text = String.Format("Version {0}", My.Application.Info.Version.ToString)When the application version is changed in the Publish tab of the My Project form to 2-0-3-6, the version on the AboutBox at run-time stays at 1.0.0.0 (of course after rebuilding).
Even when the application is published to the desktop, it still does not work. It does, however, reflect the correct version number in the title of a subfolder in the Applications folder that is created when the application is published.

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to add functionality to my application that will disable buttons and checkboxes depending on what version the OS is when the app is launched. I made a test app to test this but unfortunately I can not get it to work. Here is my code:

osValue =
My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrent Version", "CurrentVersion", "5.2")

I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system. And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security. How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?

I would like my program to overwrite its previous version such that users don't have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one.
I'm guessing it has something to do with setting Publish Version (Major, Minor, Build, Revision), Assembly Version or File Version.
I am using visual studio 2010, in that vb.net with database as SQL. I wants to display files for the user, for that i am using webbrowser. This runs on Windows Server 2003 and XP. I've tested it on those systems. But will that run on Windows 7, Vista, 98, 95, NT, 3.1? If not, which language/version do I need to use to do the same job on each system, and could you point me to the language reference?
how I can use excel 2003 and excel 2007 on my application. I add a reference to Excel 12.0 Object but this one is not compatible with Excel 2007 and i think if i add Excel 11 Object it will not run on excel 2007.
Is there any solution that I can use so that my project can be used with either excel 2003 and 2007?

View 9 RepliesI have Office 2007 on my system. The client has Office 2003 on his system. Is it possible to "link" to both versions of Office from VB?It only gives me the capability to reference to my Office version, I'd like to be able to make it fully compatible with both versions of Office.
View 9 RepliesI have both Excel 2003 and Excel 2007 installed on my system. When I call oExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application"), Excel 2003 is used in the context in my .NET code instead of Excel 2007 (which I need to be used). I have referenced the "Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library" but when the code runs, the 11.0 version is used.
Is it because I am using Visual Studio .Net 2003 that Excel 2007 cannot be correctly referenced or do I need to change a reference or setting?
I have several excel sheets which I'd like to work with different Excel versions using VB.NET Basically, I want to choose which Excel version I will open certain worksheet using VB.NET. My VB.NET (3.5) application generates Excel reports. Newer versions of Excel support the Office Open XML file format, while older versions don't.
I'd like my application to identify which version of Excel is installed on the local machine, and use a different method for generating the report (Newer versions: by generating an XML file. Older versions: by utilizing Excel Automation).
How can I identify the Excel version installed on the local machine?
