Jul 30, 2011I have several excel sheets which I'd like to work with different Excel versions using VB.NET Basically, I want to choose which Excel version I will open certain worksheet using VB.NET. Is there any way to know which Excel version is installed in the machine and how many versions with VB.NET? And how do I choose which Excel version I will open it?
I'd like to know it through programming, I know that this can be done if you take a look at the registry keys in the machine. Although, what I need is to create a software that asks the user for the Excel version he want to open

Nov 27, 2011I want to open up an existing instance if my program is already running only if its running the same version.I noticed that this question was asked for only if the name exists, but what if the version is older, I just want to notify the user that an older version is still running, "please remove older version before starting this version."The other link is this one:Return to an already open application when a user tries to open a new instance but they don't talk about closing an instance if an older or newer version is detected.

Jun 11, 2011The company I work for has old databases that were built in Access '97. They've since upgraded to Access 2003, 2007 of course, and are in the process of upgrading to 2010, but a couple of databases still only work in '97.
I'm tasked with trying to find a way to make sure the database is only opened in Access '97. I can easily open up an instance of Microsoft Access using VB and I know how to check which version is open in the code as well, but I'm wondering if there is a way to specify which version I need to open in the code. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and would be willing to use C# or C++ if it's "easier to do"/"only possible" in one of those languages.

So in my machine i have office 2003. so i am going to reference the excel library11. so it will work in my machine. If i deploy this tool on the destination machine which has office2000 or office 2007 will this export to excel functionlality work?If means what should i do to avoid this version depedency?

Sep 7, 2009I managed to create an application that is listed in the 'open with' list only in debug version. Means, when I right click on a file extension and select "open with..." I get the 'choose program' dialog and can browse for my app, nothing impressive. The weird part is, that when I enter the path to the debug version of my program is works, and when doing the same to the release version my app is not even listed, it is simply not shown...
Does anybody know what it needs to make a simple VB.net app be listed here, any fancy debug/release setting?

Excel.Version Incompatible With European Language?
Sep 3, 2010With XP set to a language such as Spanish (Spain), the VBA-in-Excel function "Excel.Version" returns the text string "11.0" (not "11,1"). It does not respect the language setting.
"CLng(Excel.Version)" then produces the value "110" (wrong!), perhaps because CLng respects the language setting and is looking for a comma instead of a period.
The work-around is easy. But I need to know if switching to another language requires a setting that my client in Spain missed, or is this just a bug.
If it is a bug, is the problem limited to this one function (Excel.Version), or are there other functions that return values in text format that are affected?

Open Excel File And Reusing Existing Excel Instance?
Jul 13, 2010I have an application the contains several excel files bundled with it. I'm not opening the files and processing them within my application. These files contain a data-connection to reload all of the pivot-tables within each excel file. I have a 'link' on my form, that when clicked, it determines which file to open and calls a sub using filename and executing Process.Start(filename) for any excel file I want to open. I have no problems opening any one of the files and then exiting excel.
The problem is when I 'close' a file, but don't exit Excel; then try to open another file(clicking link on form)... it creates a new instance of Excel.
I know from experimenting that the fileopendialog form will 'reuse' an existing Excel instance, IF it does not already have a file open.
How can I do the same thing without using the fileopendialog?
I don't want the end-user to have access to the folders where these files live. That's why I have multiple 'links' on my form, one for each xls that already exists. I just want them to be able to click on a link and the xls file opens AND if they choose to merely 'close' a file and not exit... Don't create a new instance of Excel, but re-use the existing one.

Apr 14, 2011I have Visual Studio 2010 and a VB Project that had a reference to Microsoft.Interop.Excel 12.0. Well recently I changed the reference version to 14.0. That was actually a mistake and now I need to bump it back down to version 12.0. However I get this error in my project now...

is showing missing records at the end of the file , so i save my file as an .xlsx extension it saves correctly but when i open the file it generates an error

Even though it is saved as .csv, it is still identified as .xls.

Sep 1, 2010I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system.And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security.How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?
