I create a new Windows Forms application and add an AboutBox form which is built-in into Visual Studio. I add a button to Form1 to show the AboutBox when clicked.The AboutBox form has a label with the text "Version" on it. The following code is supposed to add the application's version to that label at run-time:
Me.LabelVersion.Text = String.Format("Version {0}", My.Application.Info.Version.ToString)When the application version is changed in the Publish tab of the My Project form to 2-0-3-6, the version on the AboutBox at run-time stays at 1.0.0.0 (of course after rebuilding).
Even when the application is published to the desktop, it still does not work. It does, however, reflect the correct version number in the title of a subfolder in the Applications folder that is created when the application is published.
When I want to run several programs out of visual studio IDE the program couldn't be run and this message appear for me and say ("Unable to find a version of the runtime to to run this application")I am using visual studio 2005 .net My program is made by basic language.What am i do to fix this error??
View 2 RepliesI was sent here by someone else that said someone here might.Below. is the message I get every time I reboot. I am not sure if it's a .NetFrame Work 1.0 or 1.1 error or not. It may be Visual Basic as I really don't know. Also, may be where I uninstalled some program or another the wrong way, by just deleting the folder instead of using the add and remove programs. I did have 1 program uninstall in-correctly by Revo Pro Uninstaller also about the time I started getting this error. But, I do know in the header error box it does say ".NetFrame Work" though... I just adding these suggestion as it might help you know what the problem might be. I have XP Home 2002 with Service Pack 3 installed. I have repaired the .Net FrameWork 2.0, 3.0 , 3.5 and 4.0. I couldn't repair the 1.0 or the 1.1 as I have deleted my temp folders that must have had something the installer needed in them. I tried to repair them with the "Installer" located in the "Installer" folder but it ask for some file in the temp directory that I did not have so I had to cancel the repair.

How they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?
And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?
BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.

I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system.And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security.How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?

This runs on Windows Server 2003 and XP. I've tested it on those systems. But will that run on Windows 7, Vista, 98, 95, NT, 3.1? If not, which language/version do I need to use to do the same job on each system, and could you point me to the language reference?
I've been using a piece of code I found that reads in joystick movement into my VB application using DirectInput. Building an executable works great, the program operates as should be, however when I publish my program for final deployment, I get the following error:
"WindowsApplication has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Here's some of the error details:
EventType : clr20r3 P1 : windowsapplication.exe P2 : 1.0.0.0
P3 : 4c0f1ae6 P4 : microsoft.visualbasic P5 : 10.0.0.0 P6 : 4ba2183b
P7 : 88 P8 : 8 P9 : system.io.fileloadexception
And then a second error pops up shortly after:
AppName: windowsapplication.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 AppStamp:4c0f1ae6
ModName: kernel32.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781 ModStamp:49c4f482
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00012afb
The errors only occur once I try installing the program and just before the application loads.Here's the code for the program:

I thought I could use this, to loop through all checkboxes in a frame:
For Each cb As CheckBox In Me.frameSearch.Controls
cb.enabled = False
Next
But it walks through once, then it comes with error:
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.Label' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox'.
There are indeed labels within 'frameSearch', but I thought that the "For Each cb as Checkbox" would loop only through all checkboxes..? Following does work, but it seems a bit of waste of CPU time, since it will loop through all controls!
For Each cb As Control In Me.frameSearch.Controls
If TypeOf (cb) Is CheckBox Then
cb.Enabled = False
End If
Next
How to do this more effectively?
I want to read the HTML from a frame in a web page. I have started with a WebBrowser, which I browse through manually, attempting to scrape the details as I go. The reasn for using Web Browser is that it involves a complex form, which I can't really replicate in code.If I directly query the WebBrowser info I get very little, and the frame data id represented simply by a FRAME TAG, and a simple URI with no form data (it needs the data to return the content)I tried the Web Browser documentStream, and again I get very little.The closest I got to the full HTML is the following code. However it is missing the OBJECT tag and it's contents, which is what I absolutely need:
htmlwin = wb.Document.Window
For Each frame As HtmlWindow In htmlwin.Frames
For Each el In frame.Document.All

I want to make a frame transparent, but not my forms only but of the whole system, for eg when I click on enable all frame and caption area must change to transparent?
View 3 RepliesIs there a way to see if a particular frame within the webbrowser control is finished loading? I know the functions webbrowser1.isbusyandebbrowser1.readystate=readystate_complete work for the main window, but it does not work when a frame is loading. It simply keeps saying the page is done loading. The event webbrowser1_documentcompleted sort of works, it registers when my frame has loaded, but it also registers when all the other frames are loaded. Is there a way to just check on the status of one particular frame.
View 2 RepliesI have been making an online role playing-game in VB2008 and inside the gameloop for the client there is some code that "smoothes" out the movement (instead of it being choppy from tile to tile.) It works pretty well but I'm having problems figuring out a math formula to get a good frame timer interval to set how fast the frames change based on how many pixels they can move per loop.Testing stuff out I found that 250ms is an ideal frame timer interval for 1.0 pixel movement per loop. If I were to double the movement step of pixels by 2 lets say (2.0 pixel step per loop) I found that the frame timer interval should be around 125ms. How can I get the frame timer interval by the movement step of pixels? In cases where the movement step can anything between 0.1 to 4.0 pixels.

View 3 RepliesI want the background of my form to be the same color as the window frame color that the user selects, even if that changes. I selected System->WindowFrame as my background color, but it always remains a dark grey, regardless of what I have my window color set to. How else would I achieve what I want? I assumed I was doing it the correct way. Do I actually need code that gets the system window color and then apply it?

If Assembly Version = File Version Then

so how do i detect Assembly & File version numbers?
I would like my program to overwrite its previous version such that users don't have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one.
I'm guessing it has something to do with setting Publish Version (Major, Minor, Build, Revision), Assembly Version or File Version.
I hope this is the right place to ask, because I can't seem to find an appropriate forum. The newgroups were so better organized and topic specific.I am running VS 2008 Pro SP1 on Windows 7 32-bit SP1. I am trying to get a simple VB Forms app to compile in Release mode rather than Debug. On Windows XP that worked fine for me. Now when I go into the Project Properties and set compile options to "Release" and click Save, when I close the properties page and re-open it reverts to Debug mode.
