I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system.And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security.How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?

Whenever I build my VB.Net project, the Assembly version does not automatically update as it is supposed to with the * in the third box in the Assembly Information. The only way I have found to (sometimes - it doesn't always work) get the version number to update is to Clean the Project, remove the *, Rebuild, reClean, put the * back in, and Rebuild again. What could be causing this issue to happen?
I should note that my coworker reports no such issue on his machine when Building the same Project; also, I must admit to some confusion on my part as to how this behavior is even possible, given that the error persists even if I remove every possible intermediate file I can think of that could possibly even be carrying the old version number, so how does it even know the old version number?
How do I programmatically increment a given version's number to the next version of the highest one?
For example if I have a file Program.exe with the following version numbers :
Program.exe 1.0.0.0
Program.exe 1.0.0.4
Program.exe 1.1.0.76
Program.exe 1.0.0.66
The next version number in this case would be 1.1.0.77
What's the easiest way to implement that?
This is probably an easy question: I need to change my version number from 5.4 to 5.5. This is not the assembly version, but the version (I think) of my executable.

This because I have a webservice that connects to a database and retrieves a version number.My application then compares that version number with his one, if it's old.. then it will download new files and change his version number.

I have created a com dll in vb 2005 and used in vb6. It's working fine.
I have a question why Windows Explorer does not show it�s version number? I have properly set both the Assembly version and File version.
Again I did create a test com dll - windows explorer does show it's version number properly.
It was very practical to keep build number in VB6, as it auto-incremented that number every time that i "compiled" the program.

Im building an application, will be releasing its beta version for a group of beta testers.I want to add "b" to the version number.E.g. my application's version number will be 1.0.0.0b. the second thing is...i want to make 2 checkboxes next to the labels... if you mark the first checkbox, next to the first label... and the outcome is that the number of the first label is BIGGER then the other one.. you should get some kind of a msgbox.. i know how to make a msg box... but i dont know the code for vb to check if label1 is > or < than label2....

The newgroups were so better organized and topic specific.I am running VS 2008 Pro SP1 on Windows 7 32-bit SP1. I am trying to get a simple VB Forms app to compile in Release mode rather than Debug. On Windows XP that worked fine for me. Now when I go into the Project Properties and set compile options to "Release" and click Save, when I close the properties page and re-open it reverts to Debug mode.
