I have a combobox called 'cptype' with 2 items and a default item 'select'. I also have a button called 'populate'. How do I get the program to randomly select one of the 2 items.
I also have a button called 'reset'. How do I get the combobox to reset and show 'select' when I click on the button 'Reset'.
I'm having a problem with combo boxes. I usually use Java and it's been awhile since I used VB but I never remember having this much difficulty.My application is using an SDF file. From Data Sources, I drag the details on one of my Tables to my Form to get all of the fields. Three of them are comboboxes. Each of the three is an INT64 and each corresponds to a primary key in a different table. I click the tasks button on a combobox and for data source I select the appropriate table that has the data to go with the combobox, for display member I select the field that I want users to see, and for value member I select the primary key. Then I run a quick test and start the app, open the form, and add a new record. When I select a value from the combobox the selection won't validate because it doesn't think it's an INT64 like it should be. It seems to be using the display member as the actual value instead because if I change display member to the primary everything works great.
View 11 RepliesI have a form in my vb.net application used to take the data about the returned stock. The form contains two comboboxes. One, named combobox5, contains invoice numbers and the other, named combobox3, contains party codes. Both the comboboxes are pre_loaded using sqldataadapter.
Now what i want is to change the party code in combobox3 when the invoice number is changed in combobox5. Elaborating it further, When Stock is issued the party code is stored along with the invoice number to keep track of to which party was the stock issued. Now when stock is returned i want to keep track that which party has returned the stock and i want that the party code should be automatically selected when the invoice number is changed and it should be what is stored in the database against that particular invoice number....

View 1 RepliesI have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
When I will click the suggested text shown in the combobox it will disappear.My Combobox btw is connected in a database.If I type Kev then kevin and kevsky will show at its suggestion then when I will click any of it ,the combobox text will be empty or will clear what I typed ("Kev") and will not show what I clicked.[code]

With an unrestricted combobox, I could just set .text="" and be good to go; that doesn't work with the ones that are restricted.

Brand new to VB 2008 Express, but have done some work in VB 6. Not sure what I'm missing, but here goes. I have two comboboxes linked to an Access 2007 database. One box lists the names of the States in the US.
This is what I used for the Table Adapter Configuration Wizard for the combobox "State" SELECT ST_UID, ST_NAME FROM STATE
For the combobox County I used: SELECT ST_UID, CTY_NAME FROM COUNTY ST_UID is an Integer.
I created a label with a bound value to STATE.ST_UID so that when a user selects the name of a state from the State box the appropriate ST_UID populates the label, (i.e, California has an ST_UID = 5).
The problem is when a state is selected, I only want the Counties for that state to appear in the County box, i.e, COUNTY.ST_UID = 5 if California is the selected state.
I then tried to convert the value in the st_uid label to an integer:

This works fine, but i want to load a textbox with the name of the employee that i selected in the combobox.
This is my first web-based application using VB 2008. I had no idea where to start so I just chose the 'Wpf Browser Application' and started adding the controls on the form and naming them the same as I would do with a normal non-web-based vb app. I ran the XBAB file under bin/debug using IE and the form showed up but I couldn't enter text or anything even though the textbox was set to enabled?

I have a form with controls on it which are binded to a table, I have records selecters and so on... Just a simple display and edit form(yes I also want to be able to edit them so...) I created this form just by dragging items from the Data sources window.
Now I want to add a combobox which has a list of titles. And here comes the difficult part: When I select a title in the combobox, all the other controls show the matching info(matching to the title), in other words the datatable which is attached/binded to the controls must move to the right record. I have added a query to the combobox , which has two columns: ID and Title. the displaymember is Title and the Valuemember is ID. So I must look in the datatable for the right ID.
I have a combo box with a list of book conditions. When a book is loaded into the form, the condition the book has needs to be selected. How can I do this? Here's what i have: Excellent Very Good Good Fair Poor just for example, how would i select "Good" WITHOUT USING THE INDEX? The database knows the condition text, and condition id. I can load the datagrid and load the Combobox, but selecting is only pointing to the record (highlights in the grid) i choose and doesn't filter. Is there anyone that can give me a clue on how to solve this.

I am making a combobox dropdown to filter a report. I am using the table adapter to query the data and fill the report from the selected item in the combobox. However, if the user select index 0 (which is "-Select User-") , then the query should disable the filter and select all users in the database.
