im using Visual Basic 6 to automate a large amount of excel and word content into a single word document and am having to use selection.copy and selection.paste on a regular basis. this continually adds items into the office clipboard and fills it up rather rapidly making a huge drain on resources until word eventually gives up and crashes.i have a couple of things that i would like to do to that i think would prevent this from happening....
1-clear the task pane clipboard
2-switch the task pane clipboard off before my code starts automation
i've tried a couple of options to clear the clipboard but they only seem to clear the system clipboard and not the task pane one (containing its 24 resource hungry and useless items)[code]i can manually choose 'Stop Collecting' from the system tray icon menu, which appears to do what is says but i need to automate this function in someway.i find it hard to believe that microsoft would introduce a feature without giving even the most basic of access to programmers.
When I will click the suggested text shown in the combobox it will disappear.My Combobox btw is connected in a database.If I type Kev then kevin and kevsky will show at its suggestion then when I will click any of it ,the combobox text will be empty or will clear what I typed ("Kev") and will not show what I clicked.[code]

While we're on the subject... what's the proper prefix for a checked list box? I've just been using clbListBox but I dont think that's correct.

I could be way off here, but it almost seems like ID.IDlist points to the address of mylist and so when mylist is cleared so is ID.Idlist. It seems as though the reason the second block of code works is because I am creating a new list in memory for each ID object and ID.IDlist just points to it... is that right?
What i am trying to do is get a user to change one drop down, which then calls an ajax function which posts to the code behind (vb.net file) then clears and populates another asp dropdown list with the data returned from the function..[code]...

View 1 RepliesI have just realised that ComboBoxes don't have a Change event. I have a combobox filled with a few items, eg. Bakery, Deli, Fruit & Veg, etc. Choose one of these items, all the related items show in the dgv. However, when I blank the text in the Combobox (press Delete key whilst Combobox has the focus), what event fires so I can blank the dgv? The combobox does not contain a Blank item. Even if it does, the Blank item only fires the ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged when the user scrolls down to, or clicks on, the blank value.
I want to clear the dgv when the user blanks the combobox without necessarily changing the selection index.
I am new to vb.net and I am using visual studio 2010. I have two comboboxes on a form, each combobox is set to DropDownList so that a list of items can show in the combobox, but no text is allowed to be entered.

I'm making a combobox on a form. I want the combobox to have a list of choices from a table in a db. The two columns are a String and a Date. I want the date column to only show the year. I'm hoping I have the code right as it is above, but I'm not positive I've done the whole date thing right.

View 1 RepliesWhen .Clear() is invoked, is the memory freed up that was allocated when all of the items were added? I need to load several lists of codes from a database depending on the import selected by the user. Each list of codes will be a List(Of String). My idea is that I will load only small strings into a List(Of String) along with a List(Of <class>) for the data I will be validating and manipulating. When I am done, I want all of the data from the Lists to be purged from memory. Will .Clear() take care of that or does the memory still remain allocated and have to be dumped by the OS once memory gets full? (And, incidentally, what causes the OS to decide which memory blocks to dump? FIFO concept?)
There are so many lists, I'm not sure if I just want them sitting in memory or not. Granted, the lists will just consist of a single string value for each code pulled from the database. So there won't be a ton of data, so maybe I could just load all the validation lists at the beginning of runtime and only worry about purging the data List since it will contain between 35-50 "fields" per record and there will be a couple thousand records each import that is run. I don't want my program to actually cause a hit in performance in the long run. I ultimately don't see a problem because I won't be running millions or even hundreds of thousands of records at once, but I just want to be sure.
is it guaranted that a task A started before TaskB will be completed before task B assuming the task do the same level of operatons?or in other words is there a chance that a task B will finish before tast A in the assumption that the task calls the same procedure?
