I'm considering writing a small program, to enable power management for individual displays in a multi-display environment.Simply and elegantly.Normally, power management is controlled by system activity. The goal of the program would be to link system activity to a specific display, in Windows 7.1 PC, 3 displays: A, B and C.In a normal situation, as long as there is activity, all displays are kept awake. Even if all activity is exclusively on display A. All displays are awake or asleep at the same time.
In the new situation, if activity is limited to display A, then displays B and C will go to sleep, after a specified time. Only the displays that are in use, are awake.

Developing an application that will serve as an application server (Similar to 'Run Advertised Program' that is present in Windows Server). The downside to using Microsofts current system is that it a) requires Windows Server and b) Works only with systems setup in a proper Domain. I have a number of systems in my house and I'm fed up of downloading from the net or setting up network drives etc etc. I've tried using the code in a similar topic posted a few threads down, but it obviously doesn't support multiple client connections.

I have a list box that is bound to a table in a database. It produces a list of companies. The user will then come along and select multiple companies that they want to view information about, and then they hit a select button which I'll display the company information (e.g company name, company site, address e.t.c) in a gridview underneath. However the issue that I am having is that it only displays ONE of the multiple companies selected and its always the top one. How I get all the companies to be displayed in the gridview?
I am programming in vb.net

My application reads the following data below from an xml file into a multi-line textbox - also scrollbar enabled (vertical). The data read into the textbox displays as "A1A2A3A4". Can someone recommend how I can get the textbox to display this vertically instead?Using VS & VB 2010 as new developer.

VS 2008 SP1. I cannot get my application to display in English, it always displays in French. I have an application that uses 2 languages. The default language is en-GB and the second language is French. For setting the text of the buttons and labels. I have set the localized property to true and changing the language to fr-FR on the form. So setting the default languages controls by choosing the default the language property, and then switching to French language to set the French controls. So I have the following files:
formMain.resx
formMain.fr-FR.resx
formMain.Designer.vb
formMain.vb
And for message boxes and other strings I have added these 2 resource files
formMain.Strings.resx
formMain.Strings.fr-FR.resx
So if I want to switch to different languages I have changed the cultureInfo as follows:
If My.Settings.Default.Language = "fr-FR" Then
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = New CultureInfo("fr-FR")
Else
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = New CultureInfo("en-GB")
End If
And for string I use the following: MessageBox.Show(formMain_Strings.SameStringName)
I also an address book form that is a child of the formMain. Which I have used the same method. However, the address book works as normal, but the formMain never changes to the language I want. Even though tested by explictly setting the language to en-GB in the form constuctor before the inializeComponent() it will always default to French. Not sure why the address book (child) work correctly, the parent form (formMain) will always display in French, no matter if I have set this to en-GB. I am 100% that my method is correct using what I have show you above. I was thinkng about deleting the formMain and creating a new one. But that would mean doing everything again and would take too long.

I am still learning VB and operating VB 2005 for school. Challenging issue recently arose and would like advice from someone smarter than I .... When writing code to query several elements from a user,such as: Street number, street name, city, state, zip ... all posed as individual response questions. I want the ultimate displayed answer to show in a single line. When I write to code for that, I get the response in a single line, but they are all jammed together in the cout result screen display, with no spaces between answers (e.g. 2118Winona AveMontgomeryAlabama36102). I want a blank space to display between elements (e.g. 2118 Winona Ave Montgomery Alabama 36102). How do I cause the result line to include spaces?

I am using VB2008 Express and am curious how to send a command via RS232 communications. The string that I need to send is 02h PON 03h. The start and end bits are 02h and 03h.
How can I convert 02h and 03h to its ascii form. In hyperterminal, I use the sequence {(hold)ALT 0 0 2} on the number pad to send the start bit.

I require a "Indicator Control" i.e. I need to display a "multi coloured indicator" with each colour representing a certain condition. Basically "I want to build" a multi colored LED on a Form. I have used a Radio Button before but I need more than 2 colors and the Radio Button is a very poor choice.

I'm adding multi-threading facilities for the first time. I have a function that is wrapped to be run in a separated thread. This function retrieves data (text) from a combobox and it works for sure without multi-threading.
When I call it as multi-threaded, I get the following error when I try to retrieve the data from the cmobobox: Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'cmb1stBL' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
It looks like a restriction of thread-safety... I assume that the child thread cannot read from his parent, to make sure that he doesn't change his parent data. So how can I read the data from the combobox? Should I read the comoboxbox data before calling the child thread?

I am looking to record information about the computers power consumption over time, is there any way I could do this using vb, I can get the current voltage from the processor but do not know the current therefore can not work out the wattage. I got a new laptop friday, it has windows 7 and its a 64 bit system. I installed visual studio 08. everything was fine until I opened one of my projects.Seems like the powerpacks drawing items no longer exist, there is only a pointer and reort viewer in the group now and all of the items that I have used in the past are keep my app from running.

Recently I came to contact with a program that is about 50 times faster then mine just because it's using a graphics card GPU to do its calculations.I'm running 3 5770 and I think that 1 is enough for what I need, but I was wondering if it's possible to do such a thing.how can I use my GPU power to do my calculations? I have used the vb power pack for graphs and the following to files are included in the application files.
Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.Vs.dll
System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.dll
But the install only works on the machine it was built on, if I take them out it installs but no graphs. How can I get this to install on all machines?

How to get the current power level of my laptop and if my charger is connected to my laptop. I want to make an application which tells me to put in the charger if my power level is under 40%, cause it has happened way to many times to me that my computer is shutting down when I etc. watch a movie or is programming.
