Communications :: Write Program That Will Upload A File To A FTP Site That Has SSL

Jun 19, 2008

I'm trying to write a vb.net program that will upload a file to a FTP site that has SSL (explicit, although I'm not sure what this means). The sample code and explanations I've Googled always assume when it's SSL that I'm using a client certificate. But I have no certificate to load.I simply need to login, accept their certificate and upload my file. When I accept their certificate am I actually installing it on the client? For example of FileZilla a box pops up and I just click on accept, then my login is complete.

Communications :: Write A Program To Ping Computers On Network To See If They Are Turned On?

Jul 4, 2008

I am trying to write a program to ping computers on my network to see if they are turned on. So far i have the following:

Code:

If My.Computer.Network.Ping("192.68.0.5") Then
MsgBox("Computer is on.")
Else
MsgBox("Ping request timed out.")
End If

If i use ip addresses, this works fine but i would rather use hostnames due to the ip addresses being dynamic (something which is outside my control). Using the hostname, it reurns "Computer is on" if the ping is successful, but if the hostname cannot be found, instead on returning "Ping request timed out", an error occurs as follows:

A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.NetworkInformation.PingException' occurred in System.dll

Manipulate UTorrent - Write Upload / Download Rate To TXT File?

May 8, 2010

uTorrent is a p2p program which handles torrents as most people know. What I want to do is:
Write the total amount of Upload rate to a txt file (updated every second).
Write the total amount of Download rate to a txt file (updated every second).

This is done on a server, which writes the files to a shared folder. And on my computer, I will make a program that reads from these files every second. So instead of me having to use the Remote Desktop Connection to see if it's going anywere. I want to view the speed from my computer. So the problem starts at the first task, how to manipulate programs.

Site Level Folder Read/write/delete Permissions From Webpage?

Dec 20, 2011

I have a link on a VB.net aspx page that needs to open a folder in a subdirectory of a web site and provide read and write permissions so that files can be copied into and read from as well as deleted. ONLY from this folder.I have this funtionality working on a dev and demo PC but they are both on my domain. Clicking the link opens Windows Explorer and I can copy /cut & Paste, etc.The public/production PC is on the LAN, but not part of the domain. I know there are ways to allow folder read/write permissions on a public server like this but I am not too sure on the safest way to do this. The upside, the only users that need to have read/write/delete access are employees. Forms Authentication, ASP Membership directs non-employees to other pages within the site. Likewise, the membership directs employees to an admin section of the site.

Write A Batch File To Run A DOS Program Under A GUI?

Jan 20, 2010

I am tring to write a batch file to run a DOS program under a GUI as below

My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(c:convert3.bat", "aften c:movie.WAV c:movie.AC3", False)

When the batch file runs

C:>convert3.bat

C:>aften c:movie.WAV c:movie.AC3
'aften' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Why the extra data tacked onto the front of the bat file..The below code works but is more lines...

Dim fs As New FileStream(MyFolder & "convert2.bat", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write)
Dim s As New StreamWriter(fs)
s.WriteLine(batstring)
s.Close()
