I am a new vb user and I have the beta of Visual studio 2010.I have to make a button redirect to another form IN THE SAME FOLDER [code]Now, I assume that if I dont want to mess with the code, I need to click the buttn, go into the properties, events,click.What identifier should go into the click box so that it will automattically open up a file in the same folder?

You can see that the addnew button adds them but it wont save them. when i go back and preiview the data on the table its not there. I am just tring to develope a regular simple customers database

The Add-In when installed shows an error on clicking the short cuts. It says the specific macro cannot be found.The code under the Sub EnableShortCut() works well when it is in an excel vba module. The same won't work when it is added to an Excel Add-In created with Visual Studio.
The title pretty much precisely asks the question, but I shall repeat;
When I double click on a form control while in the design view in a Web Application project within Visual Studio 2010, say a 'button' or a 'submit' for example, it inserts a javascript function into my .aspx file. When I do this at work it automatically creates an event handler for the control in the code-behind.How do I change this to that setting? I have used '/resetsettings' already, and other answers to similar questions do not solve my problem. I have reinstalled, gone through every menu I can find (though I may have missed something)I don't want to type those event handler subroutines every time!
Will i be able to successfully install 2010 beta 2 side by side 2008? because i want to test 2010 features and some development toolkits such as silverlight while i don't want to uninstall my visual studio 2008 professional.

At the moment I am using Visual Studio 2008 and even though the WSPBuilder is installed none of the relevant SharePoint templates are present.Having searched SO and the web, most advise to install the templates via the Visual Studio command prompt: devenv /installvstemplates
Alas the Visual Studio command prompt is also missing from my VS2008 installation.So, the question remains: which version of VS2010 contains what I need for pain-free SharePoint development? There is a rather large price different between VS2010 Professional and VS2010 Premium, so can anyone tell me if the cheaper version (VS2010 Professional) contains all the Sharepoint templates?
I am just wondering how I can add Direct X references to Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I cant find them in the .NET reference list, or the reference list, or anywhere. I downloaded the Direct X SDK for August 2009, but I can not add the .dll files to the reference list. Is there anything I can do to add them? I need the references for programming reasons.

View 4 RepliesVisual Studio and SharpDevelop do not both set up delegates to handle events in the same way. The way they are set up is a little bit different. This makes it difficult to use VS in one place and #Develop in another (on the same project).For Example, in VB, Visual Studio does the following:

Friend WithEvents OK_Button As System.Windows.Forms.Button So that the control is declared, not only with a different scope (this can be a problem also, but not the topic of this post) but with a withevents. The event handler is then assigned to it by a handles clause.

The most annoying thing about this, is even if it is done one way, the other ide will redo it, having duplicate declarations, and of course, compile time errors.Does anyone know of a way around this, some way to customize the default handlers? even if it is just some way that they can be turned off, so it can just be typed manually?

In C# adding event handler methods is very easy. You just type "object.event +=" and then press tab twice. Is there anything like this for VB projects? Note: This is for dynamically created controls or controls that are not declared WithEvents.

Good documentation does not really require analysis, though, admittedly, it is a lot of work. To wit: for each and every single method, function, event and operator provide the following: a brief topical functional description including any parameters, a detailed description of how the object works, a workable example of the code needed to make this object do something useful and links to all possible associated objects (See Also).
I see pages upon pages of useless text and links to other pages full of links. This rapidly descends into a crevace of unbelievable complexity for the developer trying to find out something truly simple like filtering a DataGridView without changing the data connection. (As it turns out this is very simple to do but I could not find a single example of how to do it in the Visual Studio documentation.)
WebMatrix is a web development and deployment tool by Microsoft so how is this compared to Visual Studio? which Use C# Razor Syntax is that more better coding.

View 2 RepliesAt present I have wrote an application (in-house CRM, vb .net 2010) which allows me to send emails under the selected customer & I categorised these emails.As these are categorised I can return data to display email history in my program by using search criteria:

Well I used the Visual Studio 2010 installer to install my application and I want it to be able to change the version displayed in the in the Add/ Remove Programs (in the Control Panel). How can I do this without going through the install wizard again?

View 2 Repliesmy event in timer goes too fast, i need to slower it. the interval is ok, i cant use sleep because it freeze everything ( webbrowser control ) and it need to stay active not freezing. i tried application. doevents() no result same problem, is there a way to do what i need? its a program that automatically fill a webbrowser form and restart every-time. there no logout button so i need to use setmouseposition and mouse_event but timer do event too fast one after other and if i use sleep everything go wrong.
View 5 RepliesI am using a timer control to display a message form in my application, but it's not working the way I want it to. Currently, when the timer event fires I create a new instance of my message form & display it. But if the user is away from their desk & doesn't close the message form before the timer fires again, a new instance of the message form is created & shown. So how can I check to see if the message form is currently shown on the screen so multiple ones dont get displayed? This is my timer event:

Do I need to use the default instance of the message form instead of creating a new one?
I'm working on a project started in VB9 (VS 2008) and now I've migrated to VS2010 (VB10) but on the production server the IDE is still VS 2008. On my developement enviroment the code compiles fine, but sometimes, - let's say - I forget an _ at the end of the line which causes the VB9 compiler to throw an error.So the question is, how could I build a project with the VS 2010 IDE but VB9 compiler? Or to force the VB10 compiler into VB9 mode?

When I run the following code in the UI thread, it works without issue.

I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:
* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....
* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.
* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.
* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.
