Feb 3, 2010I'm just getting started with VB.NET and SQL Server 2005. I have VS2008 installed on my machine. My SQL Server is in a domain that my machine is not a part of. Here's my code that I'm using to establish a connection:

This code is part of a console app. that I'm using as a test. I'm just trying to set up a simple connection and then read data from the database. When I run this console app. in VS, the program hangs for a few seconds and then I get an error "SQLServerProvider has stopped working". My options are Debug or Close program. When I choose Close program, then an error pops up in my console window "Error: Unahandled Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I assume this error is spawning from not connecting to the database properly.

I maped that shared folder (that batch file exist in it) every time that I want to run that batch file first I should have to connect to that network drive(with username and password) How can I do it in my code . May 28, 2009About connecting through lan network with sql. i try all ways but not yet. I depended on another for this by Teamviewer4.0 but he only used sql 2000 and he didn't modify. In last thread . My problem is I couldn't connect it to the server's IP address and port num to send a data through a message board. However I could only display at Form2 txtReceive.

I can view the Database in the solution explorer and the directory defaults to the project folder. How can I specify the directory to pull from my network drive? Nov 18, 2011I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

.net - Using A FileStream On A Network When The Network Drops?
Mar 26, 2012I am writing some code as part of a framework for opening a file.The file is of custom type and should not be opened by more than one instance of my application. To stop multiple file opening I use a filestream to create a lock file and then keep said filestream open. This seems to work in preventing another instance of my application from opening the file ( as it will fail in recreating the lock stream in the files open code ) but if the file is on a network share and the network drops then the original application also can not access the file any more.The code to get the lock stream is as follows:

In this I create the lock stream the first time round and then if another application tries to create it, it throws an exception and stops them from getting any further. This is kind of how it needs to work, unfortunately as I said, if this is done across a network and then the network connection is dropped for some reason then I can not delete the lock stream as I get an IOException telling me a process cannot access the file as it is open in another process ( which shouldn't be happening I don't think).

Sep 30, 2011We have a VB.Net application which works fine in our tests in different Windows XP SP3 machines. However there is one machine in which is displaying this error:
Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts
Using the mysql command, we can successfully connect to the database. We already checked for any other application or firewall that could be blocking the connection but it seems fine. We also reinstalled the system (no errors during the installation) but the MySQL error message doesn't change.
The system settings are exactly the same as in the other computers. We are using "localhost" as server in the connection string. The "hosts" file has its default values (nothing strange in there).

May 29, 2012I am trying to connect to my remote MySql Database within Visual Studio using the compact framework.
I can successfully add a data source and preview the data within the IDE so assume that the connection is ok regarding Connection strings and remote access.
However, when I attempt to access the data using any run time control I get the following error when the table is loaded using the .fill method.
