Distributing Database Application But Could Not Connect To Sql Server From Other PC On Same Network
Jul 14, 2010
I am using Microsoft visual basic 2010 and SQL server 2008.I develop a small database application and it run well on my pc.I built and distributed the application to other pc on the same network, but when I run the application from other pc I got error message like this:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)[code]
I already made a project using Visual Studio 2010 (Visual Basic) and my database connected to SQL Server 2008 R2, also set up a PC 1 act as a server and the other is client i set this up for beta test.
I'm having issue about putting an IP Address to the server pc, actually if the IP setting of the server pc "Obtain IP Address automatically", i can open my application in the client pc, but once i put IP Address on the server PC i cannot open/run my application to the client pc, i cant figure it out how can i fixed this issue.
I'm just getting started with VB.NET and SQL Server 2005. I have VS2008 installed on my machine. My SQL Server is in a domain that my machine is not a part of. Here's my code that I'm using to establish a connection:
Dim conn As New SqlConnection conn.ConnectionString = "Server=SQLServer.hbug.lan;Initial Catalog=HUGRegistration;Trusted_Connection=True"
This code is part of a console app. that I'm using as a test. I'm just trying to set up a simple connection and then read data from the database. When I run this console app. in VS, the program hangs for a few seconds and then I get an error "SQLServerProvider has stopped working". My options are Debug or Close program. When I choose Close program, then an error pops up in my console window "Error: Unahandled Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I assume this error is spawning from not connecting to the database properly.
I have an application I have developed which works great on individual PC's. However I've had some interest from a few customers that asked if I have a network version for site licencing. If my app did not save any data or write any reg entries, this might have been ok. But it does to the local computer. I also built in my own copy protection and trial function that stores data in the registry on the local computer. What would I need to do to enable my application to run on a server/network share, so that the only a serial number needed is for the server?
I'm trying to connect to a database on a big corperate network (access db). I can not load my application and DB on a shared network drive as it does not have the correct permissions. How else can I try connecting to a db of some sort and allow users to insert/edit/delete rows? as it's a network drive I can not install a DB such as SQL Server on it.
I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
I'm a bit new to VB.NET and I have a database which I want to connect to an access backend stored on a network drive for multiple users. I can view the Database in the solution explorer and the directory defaults to the project folder. How can I specify the directory to pull from my network drive? VS has copied this datasource and imported it locally which is fine for testing, but i need the file accessible for multiple users. Is this something I do when publishing?
How can I write a connection string? I has four different computer that can be connect via ethernet. How can I maintain a inserting data if to computer insert on same table at a single time..??
On Windows 7, VB.NET Express, I have developed a simple Forms application. I don't really make use of any external plugins or anything - it just has a couple buttons, pictureboxes, GDI operations to modify some images. And now it is complete. And I would like to already upload it. But, since this is actually the first time I try to submit something, what other details should I keep in mind when distributing my application? I mean stuff like... will my application work as expected in other machines? Other Windows versions? I am not in a proper position to test it in other machines, I fear, so I am relying the "default" settings and hoping it will simply work.
I have a vb.net application and i need to connect it to a web server to upload pictures. It works locally but i cannot try it on the web server as i don't know hot to connect. Does anyone know about any website where i can learn to do that?
I have a client/server chat application which I made . My question is how do I make the application work not only Locally but On any other network. I tried putting my IP in the part of creation of the client socket .
I want my vb.net application to access the sql database from another network segment.I have two network segment, the application program that I made is in 192.168.7.xx segment and the SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition is in 192.168.1.xx segment but that application program cannot access the sql server unless I make them in the same segment.
Scenario: I want to develop an application. The application should be able to connect to my remote server and download data to the local disk , while downloading it should check for new files and only download the new ones simultaneously creating the required(new) folders. What am i doing?: The app first checks for internet connection , if available pings the server to check if the server is active. Then it has to download the new files.
Problem: I have no idea how to compare the files in the server with the ones in the local disk. How to download only the new files from the server to the local disk? What am thinking?: If i can create the exact folder structure(hierarchy) in the local disk as it is in the server...than i can download the new files accordingly to folders by maintaining some index file in both server and local disk.
my friend tell me .they use file.txt,file.ini,file.xml and registry for save connectionstring for connect to database and what do you use save connectionstring.
I am trying to make a copy of an existing database, I use .net framework data provider for SQL Server.I get error "Unable to connect to source server for Transfer" when it runs to oPackage.Execute().
oConnection = oPackage.Connections.New("what the providerID should be?") oStep = oPackage.Steps.New oTask = oPackage.Tasks.New("DTSTransferObjectsTask")[code]......
I am using VB .NET 2003. I have created a user defined Class Library and created a reference to it in my application. Is there a way I can compile the application so that the Class Library DLL is embedded into the application? I would really like to be able to distribute the application without having to distribute the DLL as a second a file.
In other words, I made a New Class Library lets say called TEST. I developed a new class within this library called MYCLASS. I built the Library TEST and created TEST.DLL. I then made a new visual basic project called APP1. I added a reference to TEST.DLL. I now can use TEST.MYCLASS within my APP1 project. The application APP1.EXE will run in the test environment, but if I move it to the runtime environment it will give me an error "File or assembly name TEST or one of its dependencies was not found". To correct this error I can place TEST.DLL in the directory where APP1.EXE resides. I would prefer not to have to put TEST.DLL in the directory. Can I easily compile it into APP1?
I am creating a server-client type application that allows the network administrator to perform tasks on remote computers by using TCP sockets (TCPClient and TCPListener). The server application needs to send out a message to a client machine (with client application installed) and from this, the client application will send back the required data (i.e. system info, task progress etc). This part works fine. However, I am having trouble in getting the client application to constantly listen for an information request in the background. It should be listening whenever the application is running. What I want to do is to have an event handler which, when a message comes through, acts upon the instructions to send the relevant information back. The server does not need to constantly listen for data, as it will only receive data after it has sent a request.
I've been Searching the Net for hours now, and i can't really seem to find anything clear and straight to the point.
I need to create a Server/Client application using VB.net 2008, it's actually my first time to have a database on another computer. So I first searched the internet for the things i need to make this software.
In the beta version of Beta2 of Visual Studio Professional, when I choose add new connections, I can select a I can select a " SQL Server (SQL Client)" datasource, which works great with my SQL Server Express DB running on the local machine.
In VB2008 Express, though, I can't select a "SQL Server" in the datasource dropdown. I can only try to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server Database File.
When I actually try to connect using the .mdf file that is being managed by my local SQL Server, I get an connection error -- can't make connection to the server (and the usual message about enabling remote connections".
Im a beginner at vb.net, and just wanna ask if it is possible to make a vb.net app/client app that can connect to a database on an online web server???The app is locally on the client computer and the database is uploaded on the web server/host together with its website.
I'm trying to connect to a sql server 2005 database. I'm using the following connection string.
Dim cnn As OleDbConnection = _ New OleDbConnection("Provider=sqloledb;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=Iconics") Using this connection gives me the following error :
Error : Microsoft OLE DB PROVIDER FOR SQL SERVER : [DBNETLIB][Connection open(connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Does anybody know what is wrong with this connection string.
I am using Visual Studio 2008. I have created a visual basic form that allows user to enter his details. Now I need to store the data entered by the user in the SQL database. Can anyone tell me how to connect my form to the database. I am new to Visual Basic, so can please anyone provide me with some links regarding the same.
Where servername is "localhost". I need to make a connection to an online database (same data structure). What should I put at the servername in that case? I do have all the info about the database in question (Domain, Ip, etc...). Which part should i use?
I can connect to both databases with SQL Server Enterprise Manager, so I know the servers are up and available. One of them is SQL1, the other is SQLTEST.In my program when I use the following connection string, it work connects just fine:
conn = New DBConnect("Data Source=SQL1;Initial Catalog=SignInspection;Integrated Security=SSPI")
However, if I change SQL1 to SQLTEST the connection times out I don't get any errors other than the timeout error.I can run the profiler on SQLTest and see that it is most definitely NOT even attempting to connect.
EDIT:Well, it's a moot point now because I got authentication working properly on our SQL1 server.
First off, the web server is running IIS and .NET. Users are logged in to the intranet using Active Directory, and the .NET page needs to retrieve their log-in credentials (username most notably). The database is SQL Server 2005, running on a different machine. But the .NET app needs to impersonate as another user to connect to the database.
To successfully do both of these things go to Windows > Run, enter inetmgr and hit run. Navigate to the site and right click > properties, then click on the tab titled Directory Security, click Edit.., make sure only Integrated Windows Authentication and Digest authentication are enabled. Enter your proper AD realm and click OK. Apply the settings/hit OK.In web.config you need the following lines
replacing, of course, myDomainMyUserName and 123mypasswordgoeshere with the username and password that has login rights on both your domain and your sql server. The connection string can probably be modified, but this is mine and it works:
