I am making a client/server project where the server can send a String variable to client but for now i'm starting with a simpler code. I was able to code a bit but now i'm having a problem with this UnauthorizedAccessException. It seems that I am not authenticated but i was able to put the admin username and its password. This is my problem.. Here's my code...

Here is the final code that worked for me. This uses WNetAddConnection2 to establish a connection first, before using DirectoryEntry.

So I moved the code to an ASP.Net web app, which is impersonating a service account through the Impersonate section of web.config. The account I am impersonating does not have admin rights on any of the workstations so I put in a username/password into the constructor for the computer entry like so:
Dim deComputer As New DirectoryEntry("WinNT://" + Computername + ",computer", username, password).The username is that of a domain account which has local admin rights on every workstation. If I look at the Username property of the resulting deComputer object I can see that the username matches what I entered.Also if I enter in an invalid password it throws an error, so it is authenticating in some fashion.
However if I now try and add or remove a user from a remote workstation I get a general access denied error. If I add the service account that ASP.Net is using as a local admin on that workstation it will add and remove no problem.So next I tried using the LogonAPI (advapi32.dll ->LogonUser call) to login as the user account that is a local admin on all workstations, impersonated the resulting WindowsIdentitiy and tried running just the original deComputer instantiation. When I do this every property, excepty Path, returns an OLE exception..
I'm trying to develop a windows application where i can get connected to remote server and look for process state going in remote server.We have many remote servers where automatic installation of software going on. We have an xml file(installstatus.xml) where it tells us at what stage the installation is (Example : Inprogress , Completed, Failed.)
So our aim is to develop a windows application where i can get connected to that servers and look for their installation status(may be we can use installstatus.xml to look for installation status). Every time i connect to a server, the server information should get stored in XML file(i want to create a xml file where all the servers list i connect to should get stored)
The UI at left side should will have list of servers i can connect to. When i get connected to server, at right side of UI, i want to display the status of installation (In progress, failed , completed).
I'm running windows 7 64 bit and using VS 2010. I'm trying to use the filesystem.getfiles to find a file on the computer and return the path for it. However, when I search C:/ and its subdirectories, it always throws an error: "A first chance exception of type 'System.UnauthorizedAccessException' occurred in mscorlib.dll"
I've looked everyone online and can't find a solution. I have administrator privileges and really I dont want people who use my app to have to adjust security settings for this to work. Is there not a way to search the C drive for a specific file and return its path? [Code]

Read a value from a registry key and then display the results in a text box. It will also connect and search for a specific log file on a server. I understand how to read the files. When I use the internal IP in my connection string and connect over LAN, the whole thing works fine. But when i changed the IP to the external address and tried to connect to the server over the internet, I get an error something like 'Failed to connect to MySQL server for user 'user'@'localhost', [using Password=NO]. This means that for some reason, it is not connecting to the server at all.

i need to know what will it take for me to access, insert, update and delete data to a database on a remote SQL Server. I already made some configurations to the SQL Server 2005 that I want to access by following the steps coming from this link -> [URL]. But somehow I am still getting an error. View 1 RepliesWhen I try to install the application from the files it produces when I follow the prompts from Build - > Publish (Visual Studio 2010) onto another computer, and then run the application on the other computer, it wont connect to the SQL database on the original computer.
