Draw Line & "Snap-to-Grid"

May 14, 2010

I am creating a program that will allow you to sketch out a house-floor-plan... I am using Snap-To-Grid code. The snap to grid works fine but i need a label that appears in the middle of the lines that are being drawn that represents the length of the line in feet. This will be saved as a bitmap image, so i need the length to stay visible after the lines are drawn. I have found code for a "symbiote-line", but it displays the text in a caption and the caption dissappears as soon as a line is drawn. I need the text to still be visible after the mouse-up event is fired. This is similar to the way i need the line to look.

Data Grid Viewer With Filtering Feature?

Feb 6, 2012

I am looking for a Visual Basic control for my windows application. It's a either a datagridview or listview in VB 2010. The list actually come with the filtering function on the top row. The user is allowed to key in the search key in the respective column and the list will filter at run time. Please refer to the picture below for your reference, the function is in the red box. I found this control in one of the software. Is there any similiar control in the VB 2010 or 3rd party control?

VS 2010 Express Access Runtime Controls?

Apr 20, 2011

I grabbed some sample code to generate 100 comboboxes at runtime. The short version of the code is shown below, I left out all the combo box fortmatting and placement details...

Dim TB1 As New ComboBox()
for loop
TB1 = New ComboBox()
Me.Controls.Add(TB1)
end loop

it produces all the comboboxes and looks fine, but i cannot figure out how to reference an individual combobox. Are they in an array? How do you single out a single combo box, for example, how would I check the value of the 33rd combo box?

VS 2010 Painting When To Draw/erase Snap Lines?

Oct 6, 2010

I have started to work some more on my 'shape editor'. If you're not familiar with it,ust imagine the Visual Studio form designer: a 'canvas' (the form) with a bunch of 'shapes' (the controls) that can be selected, moved, resized, etc. I have just finished implementing snapping between shapes and the canvas boundaries. But now I am having some slight issues with painting the snap lines.Just FYI: this is what I mean by snap lines:The blue lines that indicate that the 'buttons' are snapped to each other, and a purple line indicating that button1 is snapped to the boundary.

My shape editor is based loosely on jmcilhinney's 'manipulating GDI+ drawings' codebank entry, and a central idea in that post is to only draw what is necessary. In other words, when I move a shape I could re-draw the entire canvas, but it is much faster and smoother to only re-draw the old and the new location of the shape. Since nothing else has changed, I don't need to draw the rest. So, I simply invalidate the old bounds and the new bounds, and even with a lot of shapes all moving simultaneously it still feels very smooth.

Data Grid View Controls?

Dec 5, 2010

I have to turn this program in TOMORROW! I can't seem to figure out how to do this section. If someone I can do the second part.I have two text files, one is a single dimensional array, and one is a two dimensional array. One titled "Months.txt" and the other "Rain.txt".The problem is I have to read those into an array, and then after that, use a query to pull the information and display it into a data grid view style box.The problem I'm facing is when I pull the "Months.txt" text file, which has the months in order from January....December, and try to display it in the data grid it puts the length of the names of the months, not the actual months. me on this matter? I've tried to no avail. Also, how would you add all of the numbers in a single row of a two-dimensional array to give a total to display in the data grid? Also, the column?

However I would like to use the detail view from the data set combined with data grids for smaller tables. So part of the form has text box and labels to show the data and the data grids are used to show the detail data.

Unhandled SqlException In VB 2010 Express Thta Does Not Occur In VB 2008 Express?

Oct 16, 2010

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."

I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).

Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.

Is SubReport's Implicit KeepTogether Feature Fixed In VB 2010

Sep 22, 2010

This behavior occurs because the Subreport control has an implicit KeepTogether property. By design, the KeepTogether property tries to keep content of a subreport on one page. Because of this behavior, the report engine creates blank space on the main report if the subreport does not fit on the same page as the main report. Then, the report engine creates the subreport on a new page.

Jan 21, 2011

I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

(VB 2010 Express - Bug In VB 2010 Express Working With Excel?

Jun 3, 2011

Initially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.

run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).

Create User Controls In .NET Express?

Jul 31, 2009

I want to build my first user control using VB.NET 2008 Express. This control would simply inherit the ComboBox and use some event handlers to do an intelligent auto-complete function. When it's finished, I naturally want the control available in the toolbox so I can add it to forms in design mode.Is there a good tutorial on how to do this with VB.NET 2008 Express? Should I create this as a stand-alone project or as part of the first project where I will use it?
