Conversion From Access To MySQL?
Jul 1, 2009
I have an application that has been developing in the last months using Visual Basic 2008 Express with Access 2007. In the last weeks I have been converting it to MySQL for my database. i am having problems in configurating vb.net for using mysql. Also converting my existing code to work with MySQL .I use many datagridviews in the winforms and bounded textboxes, etc. How do make them work with a database in mysql. In vb.net when I try to connect to a mysql database the program does not give me an option for a MySQL data source. here is an example in my code wher
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:UsersKoRnHoLiOsDocumentsDatabase2.accdb;Persist Security Info=False;")
If CheckBox1.Checked = False And TextBox4.Visible = False Then

I need to be able to do enter a workshift in a program. In access it made no issue of the fact that date/time was the format. Now in my program when I enter a shift for example
begin: 08:00:00 end: 16:00:00
t converts it to this in MySQL
2008/00/00 00:00:00 and 2016/00/00 00:00:00.

I am an Australian user so use date format dd/mm/yyyy...my frmMain has a list box that retrieves a list of date values from the access db and displays them in the correct format (15/12/2000 - dd/mm/yyyy). When I update the DB using that same date the date format becomes reversed (ie interprets as 12/15/2000 - mm/dd/yyyy). [code] I believe the problem is something to do with the fact I am enclosing my date in my code with #'s and that somewhere between visual studio and access, the dates are getting flipped. [code]

I'm new to VB so was wondering if someone could guide me in the right direction (if what Im proposing is possible). Ive got a website that has a MySQL database as part of the package. Is it possible to have a vb app that can connect to this database, perform a select query and send the result back to the client? My vb client app would be at home and the database would be on the net. I tried google and it came back with all sorts of random nonsense. Problem is Im not sure exactly what I should be searching for. Could someone steer me in the right direction?

Since a month, i'm working for a big company in France. They asked me to make a application manage their plannings. I devellopped something not so bad using their existant Access database and VB.net.The problem is that in a few months, the application will maybe be used by 70 workers while today only 10 use it.So i did a lot of researches, and i read that Access could not support more that 20 connection in the same time.Firts, is that true ? What do I risk with an Access database for 70 workers ?And then, what do you think of MySQL in my case ? The application won't be connect on internet, only on intranet. I took a very long time to connect my application to MySQL, but now i don't know how to connect the application in intranet. In fact i'm a bit lost with the choice of my SGDB.

I'm trying to make a program that takes my old records from Access and moves them to MySQL. Its supposed to take records from 3 different tables in Access to 3 different tables in MySQL. The first table is "Orders" and it sorts the ones to pull to the dataset, taxDS, by "Where Status = 'Waiting Payment' OR 'Cancelled'". Then the second table pulls its info(this is where i'm having trouble) by the "Control_Number" in the "Orders" table, so basically if the control number isnt already in the dataset its not going to pull the data into the new table "FNF Taxes".

I am asked to write a front end program in VB 2005 (that will run in client computers which running on Win XP) to access an existing MySQL database running in Linux. It is not my preferred choice, but the user have the database and server working just as he wants it, and do not wish to change, at the same time I do not wish to change programming language. Is that even possible? Can we actually write VB 2005 programs that will run in client computers complete with NET framework 2.0 to access a Linux operating database?

I'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.
Here is my plan:
Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.
Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing
Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel
Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data, format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)
Completed: (VB.net) Save file.
Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.
Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.
The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

MySQL databases exists for saving values as strings (text only). Is there any way that i could store files with the same speed as a mysql command ? I know that it depends on the file size but lets say that the file is "Avatar.jpg" 50KB... I ve tried FTP but this is not what im looking for. e.g. You want your users been able to upload a file like the [Add This Attachment] button does in dreamincode.net and you dont have any background on PHP/HTML/Javascript/ASP.NET just VB.NET and the basics of MySQL plus you dont want to use it for a website. How do you accomplish this? Something silly that ive tried was opening an image as text then update the mysql server with that text but it didnt work backwards after i wrote the text on the file and oppened it ...it said that the image was corrupted.

What i have going on, is i have a MySQL connector as a resource on my application, and im basically trying to connect to my MySQL server, to either a) register a new account, or b) check that the account exists and they are premium, and login, Now what i have run into problems with is: My MySQL Database Name has a _ in it which VB is not allowing for some strange reason.
The code i am using is below
Imports MySql.Data.MySqlClient
Public Class Form1
Function UpdateRecord(ByVal query As String) As Integer
[CODE]...
How i can allow the _ into the application, because the only databases that don't have a _ in the user or dbname are a) Paid ones which i DO NOT have the money for or self hosted ones, i cannot leave my computer on 24/7

I'm coming to the conclusion that the things I want to do in a database are better done if I run a conversion code from Excel to Access, do mighty things in Access, then have the option of converting back to Excel to distribute elsewhere. I'm already familiar with using Access and the code I keep finding in threads almost always refers to .mdb files. Below is a conversion that does not seem to work (button2). I'm trying to do this through ADO with OleDb connections. If I can convert to Access much will make sense.
Public Class Form1
Private Adapter As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Me.Close()
