Access MySql Over The Internet

Jan 6, 2012

I'm new to VB so was wondering if someone could guide me in the right direction (if what Im proposing is possible). Ive got a website that has a MySQL database as part of the package. Is it possible to have a vb app that can connect to this database, perform a select query and send the result back to the client? My vb client app would be at home and the database would be on the net. I tried google and it came back with all sorts of random nonsense. Problem is Im not sure exactly what I should be searching for. Could someone steer me in the right direction?

Handling Application StartupNextInstance Seems To Trigger Internet Access Event?

Feb 7, 2010

I successfully coded MyApplication_Startup and MyApplication_StartupNextInstance to give my single-instance application access to the command line. It works fine. if the application is not running and the user double clicks on a filetype associated with my application, my application starts up and reads in the file that was double clicked on. That's fine.

However, when the user double clicks on another file (same associated type) when the application is already running, I then (and only then) get a warning (from McAfee in my case) that my application is requesting access to the internet. I simply click OK to allow access, McAfee goes away, focus shifts to the original instance, and that instance successfully reads in the second file.

If the user then double clicks on a third file when the application is already running, focus shifts to the running application, it loads the third file, and the internet access warning DOES NOT appear. Same with all subsequent cases.

Any ideas about why the sudden internet access warning is occuring? In all the startup and load events, I do not do any internet related things. Much later, the program will send an email, but that code is far removed from Startup and Load things. My only idea is that perhaps because I have "awakened" the normally hidden ApplcationEvents.vb file (by putting some code in there), maybe I have triggered some sort of handling of the MyApplication_NetworkAvaialabilityChanged event, even though I make no reference to this event anywhere.

Before I added the command line handling stuff, I noticed that the internet access warning would occur only once for each new build. Susequent execution of the same build would not trigger an internet access warning. So now it is as if the handling of the StartupNextInstance event is simulating starting up a new build for the first time. Weird.

One more thing. I am not deploying this over a network. I am making a simple .exe by selecting Build from the MVS 2008 menu, then running the .exe by double clicking on it from Windows Explorer. I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express on Windows XP.

Access Or MySQL In A Big Company?

Sep 22, 2011

Since a month, i'm working for a big company in France. They asked me to make a application manage their plannings. I devellopped something not so bad using their existant Access database and VB.net.The problem is that in a few months, the application will maybe be used by 70 workers while today only 10 use it.So i did a lot of researches, and i read that Access could not support more that 20 connection in the same time.Firts, is that true ? What do I risk with an Access database for 70 workers ?And then, what do you think of MySQL in my case ? The application won't be connect on internet, only on intranet. I took a very long time to connect my application to MySQL, but now i don't know how to connect the application in intranet. In fact i'm a bit lost with the choice of my SGDB.

Conversion From Access To MySQL?

In the last weeks I have been converting it to MySQL for my database. i am having problems in configurating vb.net for using mysql. Also converting my existing code to work with MySQL .I use many datagridviews in the winforms and bounded textboxes, etc. How do make them work with a database in mysql. In vb.net when I try to connect to a mysql database the program does not give me an option for a MySQL data source. here is an example in my code wher

Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:UsersKoRnHoLiOsDocumentsDatabase2.accdb;Persist Security Info=False;")

VS 2010 Automatic Access To MySQL Transfer

I'm trying to make a program that takes my old records from Access and moves them to MySQL. Its supposed to take records from 3 different tables in Access to 3 different tables in MySQL. The first table is "Orders" and it sorts the ones to pull to the dataset, taxDS, by "Where Status = 'Waiting Payment' OR 'Cancelled'". Then the second table pulls its info(this is where i'm having trouble) by the "Control_Number" in the "Orders" table, so basically if the control number isnt already in the dataset its not going to pull the data into the new table "FNF Taxes".

DB/Reporting :: Can VB 2005 Front End Running In Win XP Access MySQL Database In Linux Server?

Aug 5, 2008

I am asked to write a front end program in VB 2005 (that will run in client computers which running on Win XP) to access an existing MySQL database running in Linux. It is not my preferred choice, but the user have the database and server working just as he wants it, and do not wish to change, at the same time I do not wish to change programming language. Is that even possible? Can we actually write VB 2005 programs that will run in client computers complete with NET framework 2.0 to access a Linux operating database?

Setup - LAN Keep-alive Proxy - "Home Or Small Office Network" Via The Control Panel To Access The Internet

Apr 15, 2012

I'm trying to setup sort of a LAN keep-alive proxy...Ex.: My Xbox 360 is connected strait to my computer via an ethernet cable. My computer is connected to the internet via a Wi-Fi adapter. Everything works fine and I can access the internet on the Xbox and computer.

Issue: Every time I start my Xbox I have to set up a "Home or Small Office Network" via the control panel to access the internet. What I would like to do is implement a proxy that when I shutdown the Xbox the LAN doesn't give the "Network Cable Unplugged" notification. I wasn't sure if there was a way to make the connection stay open for so long after it should say unplugged. Such as if I need to restart the system and don't want to have to re-setup the network on the computer.

This is my code to retrieve the network info:

Imports System.Net
Imports System.Net.NetworkInformation
