Conversion Between Cartesian To Polar Coordinates And Back?

Nov 8, 2011

I Have been, for a long time, try to convert between Cartesian(Or Raster) coordinates and Polar coordinates.I have found plenty of sites, forums, etc. that explain how to do it, but have had a hard time putting it all into code as I was never great at math.I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express, and Visual Basic.

C++ - Conversion - Not Quite Giving Back The Right Data

Jun 15, 2012

Here's the function I'm a bit mystified by(Little rusty bitwise operators)

void two_one(unsigned char *in,int in_len,unsigned char *out)
{
unsigned char tmpc;
int i;

[CODE]...

I marked the two places that I don't quite understand. How to convert those pieces to Vb.Net.

Update: So this is what I came up with, but it's not quite giving me back the right data...Anything look wrong here?

Dim temp As New StringBuilder()
Dim tempc As Char

Work Out Conversion And Loop Back To Menu Options?

Oct 24, 2010

I have this code below that I called a Conversion Wizard Because it converts temperature, weight and currency. It works so far but I am stuck. I don't know how to apply the correct loops to it. For example, Do While and Do Until. I want it to be able to work out a conversion then loop back to the Menu-options. So that you can do as many conversions as you like and end when option 4 is selected.

String.ToCharArray() Stored In StringCollection Conversion To Numbers And Back

Aug 25, 2009

I have a string which was converted to a char array and stored in a stringcollection, how do I return the numerical value for the character in each string? How can I reverse this process, getting the character from the numerical value?

I know I could code a Select Case statement, but that would take a very long time as I need to cover every character a person could want to conceivably use in the English language, including punctuation. Is there already a method built into vb.net for doing this?

Set Coordinates For Each Beam At Intervals Of 610 Then Write That Coordinates System To A Text Based *.SCR File

Dec 2, 2010

I am trying to build a coordinates system but am having trouble with how to.. What I have sofar is a textbox that allows the user to enter a length. This length is user defined but never smaller then 610 in length since this is the minimum unit size we use to build timber frames. The overall length of a timber frame is infinite (well not really, but it is for what I want) the timber frame has beams every 610mm set apart from each other (this is a legal requirement) so I want my vb.net to set coordinates for each beam at intervals of 610 then write that coordinates system to a text based *.SCR file

I want to translate MouseArgEvent.Location (x,y) coordinates into my custom graph coordinates. Mouse Y coordinates increase from top to bottom while my grid's y value increase from bottom to top. Given my following code, I would need to create 21,500 separate conditional expression for 100(y) x 215(x) possible coordinate locations for my grid.

Sub OnMouseMove(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs)

Plotting Cartesian Plots In .net?

Oct 1, 2010

I am new to VB.net. I need to plot some Cartesian plots in vb.net 2010 enterprise edition. This is what I need to show in the plot:

- individual x-y points
- curve connecting the points
- coordinate axis and possibly a grid

I have no idea how to plot this. Actually I'm not even sure which control I would use. Should I draw this in a pictureBox?

Fast Update Of Bitmap From Polar Coordinate Data?

Sep 7, 2011

I am producing a marine radar display in VB.Net and struggling to get the radar data to display quickly enough.The data is coming into my application from a callback from the radar maker's dll. Each dataset consists of an integer between 0 and 8191 denoting the angle from the datum (ship's head) that the dataset represents and a byte array with 480 elements containing data from ship's position (byte 0) to maximum range (byte 480). Each of these locations is a single byte, I want to set both red and green components of the relevant pixel in a 1000 x 1000 bitmap to this byte value. The dataset number increments round from 0 to 8191 as the radar scanner rotates.

My first approach was to use math.sin and math.cos to convert polar coordinates to cartesian coordinates, and then use setPixel to set the colour of the relevant pixels but this is far too slow.I'm now trying to use Boop Boops 'FastPix'

[URL]

Which looks like it should be much better, but I am wondering if there is a more efficient approach, for example cutting out the polar to cartesian conversion, or putting the data direct into a byte array?I am also running the radar picture processing code on a thread separate to the UI thread to keep the UI responsive - what is the best way to display the resultant bitmap onto the UI? I am currently using a delegate and putting the bitmap into a picturebox?

Passing Back Lisbox Values When Going Back To Previous Page?

Jul 23, 2009

I have a search page with a couple of pulldowns. Dependig on the values of them I show a grid matching the searched criteria, basically a table with links the user can navigate to. My problem comes when the user wants to navigate back. At the moment I have a "Back" button which simply redirects the user to the initial search page. I think it would be a good improvement to have the values of the pulldowns filled in with the values the user selected, this way when he presses the "Back" button he would not have to restart the whole search process again.

Text -> Excel Conversion (with Extensive Formatting Required After Conversion)?

May 11, 2012

I'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.

Here is my plan:

Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.

Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing

Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel

Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data,format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)

Completed: (VB.net) Save file.

Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.

Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.

The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?

Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

Delay In Back To Back Messages Through Socket

May 10, 2012

We have a server application and a client application that communicates with each other using socket.

When the server application sends 2 messages about 16-31 ms apart, the 1st message is received by the client application with little delay (like 16-32 ms after it was sent). But the 2nd message is received by the client application a lot later (like 200 ms later) than when it was sent.

We already disabled Nagle algorithm (set NoDelay = True) in the socket in both the server and client application.

But to send a second email you need to wait about 20-30 minutes.the problem.One thing we tried was changing the smtp email server. We tried a third party smtp server but the same problem persisted. So I think the problem is not with the smtp server but with our .net code.

IDE :: Getting The Screen Coordinates?

Apr 13, 2010

it is designed to be able to interact with foreground windows and display certain bits of information as each foreground window is displayed. The foreground window will most of the time NOT be a windows form so this makes things that bit more trickier for me. The program below doesn't produce any errors but the problem arises when I try and get the X, Y coordinates of the cursor, at the moment when ever the cursor is moved around I get a very long number as the X and nothing returned for my Y. I find I can set the X,Y coordinates to anywhere on the screen, can also get the foreground forms title,it's RECT coordinates but need to get the cursor info correctly.

Derive Coordinates From An Array Value?

Apr 30, 2012

I've got an array that contains the following:

a;b;c;d

but it can also be that this array contains this:

a;b;c;d;(0,0,1000,1000)#(1000,1000,2000,0)

So first I do a split on ";"

If Ubound(array)= 4 then I now the second case with coordinates is valid... in this case 2 sets of 4 coordinates

How do I derive them from array(4) as xstart0,ystart0,xend0,yend0 and xstart1,ystart1,xend1,yend1 ???

Do I need to do another split on "#" first and then on the "," ?
