Suppose I have object lets say a button how do i get the coordinates of the button in the form? also I want to button to move given a particular path, example if i draw a vertical line, the button will follow the line and move vertically. how do i get the coordinates of starting and endpoints of the line?
I'm just new with visual basic. I would like to ask a question regarding coordinates.. Suppose I have object lets say a button how do i get the coordinates of the button in the form? also I want to button to move given a particular path, example if i draw a vertical line, the button will follow the line and move vertically. how do i get the coordinates of starting and endpoints of the line?
I've got a piece of code of a class. When initialised a new object is made on a picturebox. But what I don't know is how does the program know that the public property x and y means the coordinates of the object?
Here's the code thus far, excuse the other bits in between, these are for getting the foreground form title, form coordinates etc, i now need the cursor coorindates where ever the mouse cursor is to:
Option Explicit On Imports System.Text Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
[Code]....
When I get try and get the x and y coorindates only the x is appearing i think, this gives me a very long number, the y is set to 0. Not sure if I need to take this x number and split it to get my x and y or whether there is logic error in my code
I am trying to build a coordinates system but am having trouble with how to.. What I have sofar is a textbox that allows the user to enter a length. This length is user defined but never smaller then 610 in length since this is the minimum unit size we use to build timber frames. The overall length of a timber frame is infinite (well not really, but it is for what I want) the timber frame has beams every 610mm set apart from each other (this is a legal requirement) so I want my vb.net to set coordinates for each beam at intervals of 610 then write that coordinates system to a text based *.SCR file
I want to translate MouseArgEvent.Location (x,y) coordinates into my custom graph coordinates. Mouse Y coordinates increase from top to bottom while my grid's y value increase from bottom to top. Given my following code, I would need to create 21,500 separate conditional expression for 100(y) x 215(x) possible coordinate locations for my grid.
Sub OnMouseMove(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) If e.X > 48 AndAlso e.X < 50 AndAlso e.Y > 397 AndAlso e.Y < 399 Then MessageBox.Show("about 0,0")
Develop a Company Logo application that allows users to draw shapes. The application should provide the user with RadioButtons to allow the selection of the next shape to be drawn. TextBoxes should be provided to allow the user to enter coordinates (X and Y coordinates) of the shape, the width and the height of the shapes. Users should also be able to change the shapes colour.my question is how to allow the user to enter coordinates (X and Y coordinates) of the shape, the width and the height of the shapes and change the shapes color from combo box. pro help
below is my code:
Public Class Form1 Dim mycolor As Color Dim mypen As Pen Dim mygraphics As Graphics
I know how to handle a single objects property changed event very easily. I want to handle a objects property changed event that is part of another object.
Given Object:
[ObjectY = Y] + Public WithEvents X As ObjectX
I would like to do something like:
Private Sub XPropertyChanged() Handles Y.X.PropertyChanged
Right now I need to create a object that equals the object inside that object and then handle this variable pointers property changed, but that is just annoying.
Our customers get an unahndled exception as stated above. Can you tell me how to trap the error on customer applicaiton? Customer does not know when the error comes so i want to know what causes the error.
Trying to create an application where the objects in a form are created during Form.Load depending on the content in an ini-file.The objects I have in mind are textboxes and labels for a start.
Right now I have a program in which I'm trying to read the mouse cursor position relative to the window form, but I am currently having a problem. It only works if the mouse is directly over the form, and it will not work if I hold the mouse over an object, such as a label, a command button, or a picturebox. I tried resolving this by adding handle clauses for mousemove over those objects, however, while it works for the label, it doesn't work for the pictureboxes. This is because the pictureboxes are in an array and are defined at runtime. How would I go about resolving this?
code in question Private Sub Form1_MouseMove(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles Me.MouseMove, lblStat.MouseMove
I have a form that accepts a byval client object in the New
private _client as clsClient = Nothing Public Sub New(ByVal client As clsClient) InitializeComponent()[code]....
On the calling form I have labels bound to the properties of the _client object, like first and last name.On frmEditClient if have textboxes bound to the same fields. What is happening that I don't understand is that when I'm showing the frmEditClient as a modal window of the calling form, when I change the first name, for example, the labels bound to those fields on the calling form are also changed as I type, indicating that they both point to the same object.
Now this is rather cool, but I expected the object to copied and a new instance to exist in the frmClient modal form, but obviously it is the same instance. Is this because the object is a reference type and so by specifying byval in the frmEditClient creator has the same effect as passing byref? I wanted a separate object in case the user edited the object in frmEditClient and then decided to hit the cancel button and not commit the changes. In this case, do I need to clone the client object before I send it to the frmEditClient?
Like this:
dim _cloneOfClient as clsClient = _client.Clone Dim f As New frmEditClient(_cloneOfClient) If f.ShowDialog() - DialogResult.OK Then _client = f.Client End If
Problem: There is no clone method. How do I get a copy of an object that is a new object?Or is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do?
I am having some difficulty getting my head around passing objects between forms and hoped someone might put me on the right track... I have five forms: frmMain, frmLogin, rmAdminMode, frmUserMode, frmUserMode, frmUserModeDeepThere are two main use-cases: admin mode and user mode.Admin Mode: As the project starts it runs frmMain. Clicking a button stops the autologin (simple timer) and will invoke frmLogin (using .ShowDialog). The user is prompted for the users' ID number (four digits) and pass-code (again four digits).frmLogin will query a back-end database to authorise or reject the login attempt (this bit is all working fine) and then return control to frmMain. If the user is a valid admin frmMain will then invoke frmAdminMode.
I have a Login class with a doLogin() method which is called from a Button.OnClick() event from my Login form.If the login is successful, I then instantiate a User Class with the users details (username, first name etc.).The problem is, I don't know the best way to store this User object .I want to be able to retrieve details from this Object 'on-the-fly' from other forms, Such as UserObj.getFirstName(). And then have the ability to remove the object for when the user logs out, for example.
I really don't want to have to pass the object around to every form that would need it. That seems unnecessary and I'm sure there's a much easier and logical way.If it was possible to store objects in My.Settings, then It'd be perfect, but you can't (i think?).
I got the "infamous" 'Cannot Access Disposed Object.' error when I was attempting to open a form again after I had closed it. The fix (even though it's annoying), is easy enough; but again it's managed code problems and weirdness I still haven't changed my opinion that I won't be using MS .NET after this when I get my development box back to normal. BUT anyway the solution is self explanatory and very easy (and somewhat obvious) [Code]
the Application hiccups with a very nice message, after you close the form down and try to reopen it, that says: Cannot access Disposed object. So, my thought is that the "IsDisposed" property runs some sort of function to determine the Garbage Collection state and does a collection, or updates the request for the collection to be done.
Ok, new to vb.net and I want to create a basic app that reads the contents of an xml file (this part works) and then enable (make visible) the required number of buttons (already created on the form but set as not visible by default) for each line of the xml file. The xml file just lists a program name (which would become the button text) and the path to the file (which should be stored as a variable that is used in the button code (handle?)The idea is that I have an app that once created, I just update the xml file with new drivers or programs that I want to install or run without having to rebuild the application.
Imports System.IO Imports System.Xml Imports System
it's about object binding, yes it's just a simple binding. but i don't know why it won't work.for summary, i will write about what i am doing:
1. i have one solution, and have two project in it. WaitressDataWin and WaitressDataObject
2. inside WaitressDataWin, i have 'waitressdata.vb' . this is my simple form , there are some basic textbox (waitress name, address, phone)
3. inside WaitressDataObject, i have 'waitressDataObj.vb' is where i put my object class, i have WaitressName property, WaitressAddress, and Phone.one of my property is like this, others are same except the name of course.
Private _WaitressName As String ''' <summary> ''' Gets or sets the Waitress Name[code]....
4. i create data source , that is object data source. i add reference so i can add my second project which is WaitressDataObject and set the WaitressDataObj as the data source.now i have datasource with three properties (WaitressName, WaitressAddress, Phone)
5. I bind my textbox, by dragging the WaitressName (in datasource) to my waitressname textbox .. so on to all my properties.., i also get bindingsourcecomponent, WaitressDataObjectBindingSource
6. then I put this code to my form load :
dim wdm = new WaitressDataObj Me.WaitressDataObjectBindingSource.DataSource = wdm
7. done, it should've been worked, but it didn't , i don't know why.. , every time i fill one of my textbox, the properties didn't set the value, i put breakpoint in the 'set' part of all my properties but it never breaks anyway.. (the 'get' part is good, it read my property value when i load the form). so i just had problem in my 'SET' Part.
8. I think i had checked on my variable (word, case sensitive, etc), no problem.
I am working on a project that uses lots of custom class objects. Before starting work on real project, I tested the object behaviour on a temporary project. And find that if i add the object to a list and combobox and then make any change to the object property then it reflects in list and combobox. But after using the same process in real project the change does not reflect. Why?Also, how can i update object property placed in the combobox.
for eg. Class X has property id and name created objX of type Class X and set id=1 and name='All'
I have developed an application where i am drawing line using the mouse like a pen (it can be of any shape) i want to save the location of the object and redraw it later using the drawn location saved on any xml or text file. Instead of saving the edited image i want to save the location only to save the space in the sql server.
I have two forms A and B. B is a child of A - i.e. I have a button on A that pops up form B. I want B to be able to access and change data (e.g. an instance of an object etc.) in A and also to call some function in A. At the same time I'd like to preserve the right to alter the data in A without opening B. I've achieved this using the following (i.e. by declaring the object and method as Friend):
Public Class frmA Friend _data as Hashtable Friend Sub GetData() If _data IsNot Nothing Then _data As New Hashtable
Is there anything inherently wrong with the what I've done and if so how can I achieve a similar result? (It seems to work - I can read, add to and change the values in the _data Hashtable from within form B and when B is closed the values persist i.e. I can access the changed values from within form A. I just dont know if its a horrible fudge).
I've created a private sub which enables me to move to the next object when I press enter in the textbox or any input controls... What I want to do is to create a universal sub procedure for moving to next object. this is my code
I have a checkbox as a control in a datarepeater object. I have an event handler function which handles the checkchanged event for this checkbox and sets the visibility of other fields based on it. However, the problem I am having is that the event handler function is getting fired when I set the datasource for the datarepeater - hence when the data is being populated. So the event handler function ends up trying to set the visibility of a field that has not been created yet and bombs out with a NullReferenceException error. Is there a way to stop this event handler being fired when the datarepeater is being populated? I only want this function to be called if that checkbox is changed by the user after the form has loaded.
I am using VB 2008 Express Edition.I have an app that has 2 forms (will be adding more). Button click on form1 opens form 2. The first time I run my app everything works fine, but when I click the close 'X' button on form 2 and try opening form 2 again by clicking the button on form 1, VB throws a Object Disposed Exception, Cannot access a disposed object.[code]
I am making a program to organize grainbins in seperate yards. In this program, the grainbins need to be moved around and thier position to be saved when the program is closed. I also need to save information such as backcolour and text.I am specifically referring to GroupBoxes, OvalShapes, Textboxes, Labels, and ComboBoxes.
I'm very beginner in vb. I need to connect two forms with ms access. First form is connect with second using(form2.show). My need is when I execute the coding. I got a error on first form " An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Operation is not allowed when the object is closed.
If I create a new form, say Form2, in order to use it in a program I must create an instance of it: Dim frmTwo and new Form2, If Form2 has a text box on it I can put this code in Form1: [Code] But what happens if I want to refer to an object (a text box)in Form1 with code in frmTwo? This doesn't work: [Code] How is the instance of Form1 created? And How do I refer to it?
