View 1 RepliesSomeone had coded a project in Java. THis was just a calculation that looped through 1000 iterations. We had done the same thing in Vb.net.Does anyone know the speed difference between Java and Vb.net for a long calculation loop? I had heard Java was very slow.

View 2 RepliesI'm in the process of converting 6 pages of java to vb.net and today I encountered a line of code that uses "HashSet". I'm currently working in visual studio 2005 and so after googling it, I realized that HashSet is not available for this framework and I would need to use Dictionary.
I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade or not. Performace is going to be a key issue in working with this new application. I suppose it may depend on what use they make of this HashSet in the pages I'm converting. Here's the function I'm currently working on converting:
Public Shared Function locate(ByVal Pnt) As Triangle
Dim triangle As Triangle = mostRecent
If Not contains(triangle) Then
triangle = Nothing
End If

Edit So the solution I posted from Jenner at VBforums was, obviously, in VB, and I used an online converter to port it to C#. Something was lost in translations, and that's why it was 10 miles off. I'm guessing I am just misunderstanding what the algorithms at the Proj.Net discussion boards are for and that's why they weren't doing what I wanted them to.

I'm developing a custom control for numeric input that does some basic value range checking and have run into an issue when I set my property ValueMin equal to Long.MinValue. The IDE generates the following line in form1.designer.vb file that subsequently is flagged as generating an overflow.
Me.NumericInputBox1.ValueMin = CType(-9223372036854775808,Long)
I've done some checking using the Immediate Window with the following results.
?Long.MinValue
-9223372036854775808
?ctype(Long.MinValue, Long)
[Code].....
It appears that the CType function does not recognize the minimum Long value when the value is typed into the function, but works fine if it is passed Long.MinValue or a string with the value. It works fine for a typed in value equal to (Long.MinValue + 1). This problem only occurs with the Long (Int64) type.
in my application, I am pulling in items from a microsoft project file using mpxj - one of the items I need is the predecessors. The way I am able to pull the predecessor is using a build in function of mpxj which returns a type of java.util.list - I can save this to variable as an object, but I need to find a way to bring the data to a format I can easily use so I can store it into a database. Listed below is the line of code I am using to pull the predecessors from the project file.
Dim predecessors = task.getPredecessors
and here is the result when putting a tracepoint in to get the value of predecessors
[[Relation [Task id=4 uniqueID=45577 name=Standards Training - Round 2] -> [Task id=3 uniqueID=45576 name=Process Excellence Training]]]
Even if I could get the above as a string, I could work with it enough to get the data I need. The above example is where there is 1 item in the predecessor list, but sometimes there are multiple items. Here is an example of the tracepoint when there are multiple items.
[[Relation [Task id=63 uniqueID=45873 name=Complete IP Binder] -> [Task id=47 uniqueID=45857 name=Organizational Assessment]], [Relation [Task id=63 uniqueID=45873 name=Complete IP Binder] -> [Task id=49 uniqueID=45859 name=Document Deliverables]], [Relation [Task id=63 uniqueID=45873 name=Complete IP Binder] -> [Task id=56 uniqueID=45866 name=Infrastructure Deliverables]], [Relation [Task id=63 uniqueID=45873 name=Complete IP Binder] -> [Task id=58 uniqueID=45868 name=IT Deliverables]], [Relation [Task id=63 uniqueID=45873 name=Complete IP Binder] -> [Task id=60 uniqueID=45870 name=Organizational Deliverables]]]

I'm pulling records from a db table (sybase) where I have run into a problem with a long varchar field. Using the OLEdb class I convert the field into a string variable which works fine in most cases, but there are problem with a few records. Examining the field in the database it shows that the value is not null, but the length of the field is 0.(SELECT field, length(field) FROM table). When I try to convert this into a string the result is rubbish.strContent = objReader.Item(i). I can't figure out what's the problem here, so I have avoided the issue by doing a table update before I start the process of getting data (I set the field value to null if field.length = 0
View 3 RepliesI am new to VB.net. I need to plot some Cartesian plots in vb.net 2010 enterprise edition. This is what I need to show in the plot:
- individual x-y points
- curve connecting the points
- coordinate axis and possibly a grid
I have no idea how to plot this. Actually I'm not even sure which control I would use. Should I draw this in a pictureBox?
I'd like to make a Cartesian Coordinate System in a Windows form and be able to plot (x,y) coordinates in it.How do i do this? I already did my research but unfortunately i only land on "charts" and not the Cartesian plane.
View 3 RepliesI Have been, for a long time, try to convert between Cartesian(Or Raster) coordinates and Polar coordinates.I have found plenty of sites, forums, etc. that explain how to do it, but have had a hard time putting it all into code as I was never great at math.I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express, and Visual Basic.

View 2 RepliesIn Visual Studio 2008 I am using :Private Declare Function BlockInput Lib "user32" (ByVal fBlock As Long) As Long To stop input from occuring during a search-replace operation.
BlockInput(True) ' do not allow input during search and destroy
Dim cursorIcon As Cursor
cursorIcon = Cursor
Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
Then setting it to false at the end of the operation. It did not work, so I thought maybe it was because I was calling it from a child window, so I created a function in the mainwindow, and ran it like this:
FrmMain.BlockFrmMainInput()With these functions is the Main window:

It did not solve the problem. I thought maybe it was because I was running under the debugger, so I tried compiling and running it debugger-free, but that did not do any better. I am still getting input when I double-click the mouse on either form.
my goal is to
1.Take an file(exe,dll,etc)
2.Convert it into hex
3.place that hex values in a stack
4.Execute the values inside the stack to its original form(i.e. take the elements out of stack and then convert it to a compile format)
Imports System.IO
Sub Main()
Dim fileName As String = "ABC.exe"

View 2 Replies`I want to encode my string using .net and pass it to a java program. I am using the same program for encryption and decryption on both the sides. But the java program and .net programs are returning different MD5 hash codes.Here are the codes for both my programs :
VB.net
md5Provider = New MD5CryptoServiceProvider()
input = UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(sSecurityKey)
oHash = oMd5CryptoServiceProvider.ComputeHash(input)[code]....
The problem is that m.digest() from java and oHash from vb.net are different. So i cant go further with DES encryption.

View 2 RepliesMy problem is actually a bit more complicated than just how to use AES in VB.NET, since what I'm really trying to do is use AES in VB.NET from within a Java application across JACOB. But for now, what I need to focus on is the AES implementation itself.
