but i get ERRORS my main problem is the readonly properties at the method clone examples Error1Property 'Latitude_Sexagesimal' is 'ReadOnly'.and so on ....whats the difference between those classes?how can i make functional my class written in VB ?
I understand that inherited classes can't be converted from base classes. But is there any way to write a conversion sub, so that the base class gets assigned to MyBase, then extra properties are added?[code]...
I've got a class hierarchy similar to the following: Animal is abstract, Dog and cat inherit from animal.
Is there a best practice for converting / casting a dog to a cat? Of course there may be dog specific properties that won't fit in a cat, but they share several properties that they inherit from animal. Just curious what people think. I'm thinking reflection could come into play, but I wasn't sure if anyone had experience with this.
My objective is to take a .vb class file that is used on multiple local applications/web sites and convert it to a .dll file that would would be deployed to the servers that we use.The code all works, I can build my class library project with Visual Studios 2008 Pro and end up with a DLL.I can then drag and drop the DLL into any application or website and use it successfully What I'm missing is how to compile it correctly so it will do two things;
1. Get it to show up as a .NET component
2. Get it to NOT scream at me when I try to reference it.
I think part of my problem is that I've been looking up assemblies and dll's when maybe I should have been looking at component authoring.No, I don't want to just stick with the drag and drop into local bins. I might as well just copy and paste the original .vb at that point.
I have an application which pulls xaml page paths from a database. I can then use a navigationservice to navigate to the relevant page when need be. However, I have run into a scenario where I would like to instantiate the page with a specific constructor before navigating to that page.
Is it possible to take a string value such as "PagesMyPage.xaml" at runtime and create an object MyPage? Obviously, I could do this with a switch statement on the page path, but I would like it to be a whole lot more dynamic than that.
I have a single solution with 2 projects. One project contains all my forms and some other modules and the other project has 1 module with 1 giant class in it. I try to click on properties and change the output type, but it won't let me make it a Class Library, the only 2 options are "Windows Application" or "Console Application". The startup object is the module, and the project has references to a socket component.
I am new to vb.net and would like to be able to convert the following code to it's own function - either inside the current module or better yet in a seperate class.This code currently runs in the KEYPRESS event and ensures only numbers, decimal point, 2 decimals etc. are entered and not letters. Works exactly how I want it but would now like it in a function.I need this code in numerous text box controls but I would rather just call it somehow with a function.
I've got an Interface that dictates classes that implement it to use a large amount of properties and a few methods. I've been using this interface for some time and I have a large amount of classes that implement it.
Now, I need the interface to become a MustInherit (abstract) class, because I need to implement a single method that must be the same for every class implementing the interface (I mean the implementation must be the same, hence I cannot use an interface anymore).
Is there a way to do this automatically, perhaps even using third party tools such as resharper (which is C# only I think?) or similar? I get a headache even thinking about the work I need to do to make this change manually[code]....
I have to convert a set of C# classes (class library) to SQL tables to be used by SQL Server, so that the data can be stored in a database and manipulated through the database.The problem is that the number of these classes is big (more than 1000 classes),and it would take a long time to setup manually such a database schema (tables,ndexes, stored procedures, etc.) - not to mention the class hierarchies that I need to maintain.
1. I have three classes. Now I want to know how do I convert object to my class runtime?
for example, Dim obj as New Object obj = CType( MyPassedObject, Class1 )
Now, in above code, MyPassedObject can be Class1 or Class2 or Class3 but it is passed as Object. So is there any way that I can convert into CType as per the type of that object, directly to that class? I mean, I can pass object name into parameter and write down CASE statement here to convert to that class but I do not want to write down Case statement for each of my class, so just want to know is it possible anyway?
I mean just for example, Can I do something like obj = CType( MyPassedObject, GetObject('Class1') or any other way?
2. Now for this obj, I am getting properties runtime and setting values and then updating.
for example,
Dim PropertyInfo As Reflection.PropertyInfo() = obj.GetType.GetProperties()
Now, Will it work fine if obj has been declared as Object and then I typeCast it runtime and then I get properties and set its values. Will it work if obj's variable type is Object or it must be that class type itself.
I wrote a Java class that parses a bpel text file and then returns a count of the number of occurences of certain words. I wanted to convert it to VB2008 Forms application, so that its results are displayed in a TextBox and not on the console. The problem is that VB2008 lacks Scanner and StringTokenizer classes, which are in my current Java class. Am not sure how to get the same functionality (or better) in VB2008. Can someone out there help to convert this class.
I need to create an HTML email that consists of four tables. My idea is to create four different datareader or datatables and pass them to a class that converts them to HTML. Please help me get started.I've done this before by creating a stringbuilder then appending text to it and then sending it as an html email. but, now I want to build a class so I don't have to do it the long way all the time?
Has any one used BITs in VB.NET? If so, do you have code samples? I was looking at SharpBits but I have a VB project that I wanted to use BITS for. Is it possible to use it with my VB.NET program? (.NET 2.0) I was tempted to try to convert each class to VB.NET in the SharpBits.Base folder but figured I'd ask in case someone has headed down this route before.
In case you run across this question. What you can do is in the Sharpbits.Base folder (that you download from codeplex) there is a DLL you can reference in the Bin directory. You can add that into your references to access it. Marking Konrad as answer since he was kind enough to post.
I managed to get sharpbits working with some quick code which I pasted below for anyone who might stumble upon this question. Like I mentioned above add the DLL to your project.
Dim b As New SharpBits.Base.BitsManager Dim mynewjob As SharpBits.Base.BitsJob = _ b.CreateJob("jobname", SharpBits.Base.JobType.Download) mynewjob.AddFile("\servershareigfile.zip", "c:igfile.zip") mynewjob.Resume()
You'll need to write some logic to check for the status of the job. Once it hits "Transferred" status you can then mark it as complete. This will write the file from a .bin to the file name you listed. Something that helped me was installing the Windows Support Tools (you can get it from a Windows 2003 Cd/DVD in the sup tools folder)and using Bitsadmin.exe to view the status of the job while debugging.
If Class X is within the scope of Class Y, is X a subclass of Y?If Class A is a sub Class of B, then is Class B considered a super class of A?if Class C inherits Class D is Class D a superclass or parent of Class C?if Class E extends Class F then we can consider Class E a child of F?if Class G inherits Class H and is within the scope of Class I then who is the parent of Class G? Classes that inherits Class J and classes that are within Class J are all sub classes of Class J?
I'm having a problem that's driving me crazy; I can't understand how to convert the XML structure into a class structure (that I want to use to hydrate a XML document).
The XML document looks like this:
xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <artists xmlns:opensearch="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/" xmlns="http://www.spotify.com/ns/music/1">
I have put this code in the global form Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form. And then in the form that will inherit this from the global Inherits MenuStrip. "MenuStrip" is what the global form is called. But keep getting this error: Error1Base class 'MenuStrip' specified for class 'Lesson2' cannot be different from the base class 'System.Windows.Forms.Form' of one of its other partial types.
It is in the file ClientProfile I have placed in both App_Code and also App_Code/Models
In my code behind I have the following
[CODE]...
The last word, "ClientProfile" has the scary squiggly red line below it. It is not recognizing my class.Even the Intellisense is not picking up te class. Do I have to register the class file in any way?
I am not able to find the Exclude Command in VB 2010 Express. I have no idea which version of Visual Studio it is working with. I've got one 217MB VB 2010 Express file and many 2008 VB Express files with one of them measuring 31 MB. There many other SQL files and .Net Files.
Dim a as Type=GetType(className) would gimme the type. But I have only the name of the class as string. I want something like GetType("class1") which would return the type.
so I used to mess around with C#, just a little. And someone had helped me make a class for Visual C# that was supposed to do the math parts for "internal structure" - which the program used for a part of its calculations and screen... Basically there were 2 options. Endo-Steel and Standard. The user would use a updownbox to determine weight of the machine and then internal structure was a % of that total. If it was standard then it was 10% of the overall weight, if it was Endo-Steel then it was 50% of standard (so 5% of total weight) rounded to next 0.5 (so .25 was .5, 1.25 was 1.5, 1.75 was 2.0, etc). I have the code for the C# class file for it, but want to make it in VB.
I need to create unit testing project for my current website. The currentw ebsite si written in VB. All unit testing examples are using interface to create mock object. My current VB class does not implment any interface. Can I add interface and implement it to my current class and functions without affecting or changing codes to any pages in my website that call the functions? For examples my current class is like:
I've been creating short test apps repeatedly to try to understand some of the concepts in VB.NET.For the most part it has been illuminating.I read Bucky's .NET knowlegebase tutorial on passing objects as parameters to newly created forms. He shows how to create a new class that inherits from the base form class and define a New() method with parameters Extending the concept I thought about doing the same thing with a form that was created at design-time (In this case Form2).
Imports System.Threading Public Class TestClass Private myClassThread As New Thread(AddressOf StartMyClassThread)
[code]....
The result:Application runs, no errors or exceptions.Displayed is the listbox and the Start button.I press the start button and a msgbox says "Not Invoked" as expected and upon clicking OK to that msgbox "Start Button Pressed" is added to the Output listbox control.Immediately following that the msgbox pops up again and says "Not Invoked". I was expecting "Invoked" as a separate thread is trying to use the Output listbox control.Of course this results in the Output.Items.Add being attempted which results in no visible result as the thread is not allowed to directly update the UI control.
