I'm doing some homework for my VB class where I have to write a program that creates an invoice for a customer. I'm having an issue with converting the name input from the format of (Last, First) within the same textbox to (First Last) in a listbox via a function. I have done everything but dealing with the strings and I'm at a loss. I'm also having to create an invoice number with the first two letters of the last name and also the last four numbers of the zip code in an address line such as City, State, Zip. Manipulating these strings is killing me.Below is the code that I have written, manipulation of the strings must be in one function for each the invoice and the and the name issue....
=Dim custinvoicenum As String
Private Sub btnProcess_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnProcess.Click
Dim custname As String 'Name of customer[code]......

my goal is to
1.Take an file(exe,dll,etc)
2.Convert it into hex
3.place that hex values in a stack
4.Execute the values inside the stack to its original form(i.e. take the elements out of stack and then convert it to a compile format)
Imports System.IO
Sub Main()
Dim fileName As String = "ABC.exe"

Description of Program/Events. I would like to come up with a number generator that takes the Total number (for this example I'll say 20), divides it by 2, and does alternating additions so the end result will generate a list like this:
1, 11, 2, 12, 3, 13, 4, 14, 5, 15, 6, 16, 7, 17, 8, 18, 9, 19, 10, 20.
I can understand the arithmetic, just can't work out how to express this in code. The end result would be save in a .Txt file (I have added a SaveFileDialog1 control, but figure I need to get the result before I work on the export).
Dim StartValue As Integer
Dim EndValue As Integer
Dim TotalValue As Integer
' Convert input to numeric variables.
StartValue = Val(StartNumTextBox.Text)

My objective is to, instead of entering in the data manually into the text boxes, I want to read in a textfile. The Calculate button will contain the code to read in the file and assign it to the appropriate textboxes. Save the separate file in the \bin\Debug folder.
The text file just needs to have 3 integers on 3 separate lines.The code I posted works without and errors, but.I am having some trouble integrating the Stream Reader.

Currently the reports are saved as a html file called report1.html, id like to make the user enter a name for the HTML file upon clicking submit.
A little stuck on how to make the filename for the HTML file save to a input entered by the user.
I currently have:
Try
'Open new HTML file to be written
WriteHtml = New StreamWriter(Application.StartupPath & "ListHardware.html")

I made a program a couple of months ago and decided to put it up for sale for a minimal about of basicly just to cover costs. Seems word got round and people from all sorts of places are asking if I can modify program and add features which I have done and was happy to do. I have around 57 requests in my E-Mail at the moment asking me to make a Mac version and from what I can tell, all the proccess involves is converting the .exe file to a file which can be run on the mac. Before someone offering there good faith to test it for me. I'm sorry but that won't be an option for me.Would like to run a Virtual Machine, but that would be against copy right laws. Is there any other way to test it except buying a Mac?

I am developing some program which will frequently read a file and occasionally write to the file. The file, however, is extremely huge - it may contain hundred of thousands of rows, and each row has a particular meaning to the program. That, is there may be loads and loads of rows, and a row may contain additional elements.For instance, a row might look like the following:
Code:
3 00000111000000 01110110 2 0
I am writing my program in C#, just fyi.Given my very large file, I am refraining from the idea of just using a text file, which is an obvious choice. I am also hesitating to use a database and a table.

I'm working with VB.NET 2003 on Windows XP.I'm trying to read in from a text file and populate a listbox with the data. Below is my code:
Code:
If (File.Exists("users.txt")) Then
Dim text As String
FileOpen(1, "users.txt", OpenMode.Output)
Do
text = LineInput(1)
[Code]...
This code never populates the listbox and then on top of that it erases everything in the text file. What am i doing wrong?

i'm having a hard time converting a working version of my project that received all of its data from a text file, to now receive data from a database.[code]So I must be having trouble with the Do Loop, because I don't know how to read each individual line, like a text file. I know how to change all of the .Substring's in the text file to the .Item's from the DB.

I've recently had an issue at work where I have lost my solution files to my projects, but I still have the executables that have been produced by the projects / solution (yes, my fault for not making better backups). Is there any software out there or any way of decompiling the executable back into a solution / project file??? IF yes, fantastic! If not, it just means I can cross it off as an option!

I've been trawling the web for ages trying to find some dll's/code to be able to extract text from a PDF file and keep the formatting as much as possible.I did find something last year, but it simply took all the text and created one big list of every section in no particular order, so I couldn't read the values I needed from it.

I am trying to figure out a way to convert a pdf, that could have multiple pages, into a multi page tiff file. I realize there are 3rd party programs that could do this but I need to be able to do it through code. I found this code snippet but am having problems with it because I am missing namespaces, I think. I do have a reference to the Adobe Acrobat 10.0 Type Library.
HTML
Dim FileName As String
Dim image As String = "Image"
AcroXApp = CType(CreateObject("AcroExch.App"), Acrobat.CAcroApp)
'Removing toolbar buttons from the user interface

.ToolButtonIsEnabled("SaveAS")

I am in process of designing an architecture for an application. Following is the high level requirement.
1. The basic requirement is to convert a flat file into XML
2. The input flat file can have various formats, the delimiters, the data positions may vary.
3. The output XML format is predefined. There is a specification defined in a word format, which I think I need to define it as an XSL or XSD.
I am planning to follow some design pattern. Not decided yet. The architecture should be flexible to extend the input file formats and accommodate any changes in output specification.

I recently asked a question about reading a file with Streamreader to variables arrays, but I made it more complicated than need be. Here is the simple version of what I am trying to do:
dim MyNumber(1) as String
strMyFile = 100,200 (I already have this)This is the result that I am trying to make happen:
MyNumber(0)=100
MyNumber(1) =200
I would also like the result to be MyNumber(0), MyNumber(1) as double, but I could do that in a later step. This is almost embarrassing to ask, because it is probably basic stuff.

Ok I've tried for a while now but i cannot figure this out.I want to be able to take a text file of any size and convert it to a 2 dimensional array. Doing arrays with a set size is what i understand but i cannot figure out how to write a loop to find the size of the text file to be put into an array.

I am writing a VB.Net program. In my Main form, I ask the user if he has an old file that he wants me to convert first. If he says "yes", I start converting the file, loading the records into an Access database. I want to update a line on the form, showing my progress. But the form doesn't display until AFTER the entire file is converted (and loaded into the database). That means the user has to look at a form for 2-3 minutes without knowing if the program is actually processing, or is hanging up (looping).
I don't understand what is going on, and so I don't know what to do about it. I'm sure SOMEONE with experience has come across this situation before.

1) Transcription company uploads .txt files containing transcription onto one of our servers for importing into SQL Server. These files have some minor formatting, usually just grouping of text with linebreaks and would look something like this:
</br>CHIEF COMPLAINT </br>"I was a little hungry."</br></br>HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS</br>
2) Weused a program which was created using vs.net 2005 to take the content of this file, convert it to a string, then upload this string into a varchar field in SQL Server. When the content of the imported text is viewed in the web application forformatting (</br>) is presented correctly3) Due to a server upgrade (upgraded from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2) and source code corruption this application had to be recreated using vs.net 2010. After I recreated this application I am finding that the text is no longer keeping the formatfrom the original file so that all the text is clumped together. I have attempted to use the replace function of the string to replace </br> with vbcrlf but this is still not working.

I've successfully implemented OpenXML that takes the bookmarks within a document and replaces them. Unfortunately it only works with .docx and from what I understand .doc is not compatible with the OpenXML format. So, what I'm wondering is if I can take that WordprocessingDocument and convert it to a .doc when users try and download it.
