Count Number Of Occurences Of An Elemet In An Xml File?
Apr 1, 2010
I was wondering if there is a vb.net xml function that counts the number of occurences of a particular node. I would like to count how many </row> nodes i have in an xml file. i have done this by reading the file into a string array and adding 1 to a counter everytime a </row> element is on the line, but this seems very low tech and i was wondering if there was a vb method for counting this instead?
After executing a query with LINQ to SQL, the result I have is an arraylist (.ToList) of items with ID numbers. The number of items and their occurences will vary with each query. would simply like to count the occurences of each specific ID in the list. How do I do that?? The only count function I know of (.count() ) is for a count on the entire list. I've also I've been reading on how to loop through the list items but I don't understand how I can do that if I don't know how many specific ID's there will be from each query
i have this as my code goal is tocreate a application that displays counts of occurences of each digit in a number entered by a user , is their another way without doing it with the case statement?
For x = 0 To userInput.length - 1 Select Case userInput(x) Case "0"
Basically, every time an entry is made - all of the proper data gets put out to a central Listings.txt file and then a specific .txt file for that area. When the user enters the recall form, they can view the listings for all or whichever area they've selected. That works quite fine. However! We also need to include a summary of how many are in each section. Not thinking properly, I started to do this with a counter - until I realized that a counter will lose its value once the program shuts down. My current idea is to count the number of lines in the text file (it outputs 8 lines per listing, so everything would be in values of 8) and then divide that by 8 - but after some searching I haven't been able to find a piece of code that will allow me to get an integer that relates to the amount of individual lines in the file.
It's exactly as the topic says. I have a text file with an unknown amount of words, typed out like this:tastymuffinsaredeliciousWhat I need is a counter that will tell me how many words there are, and in this case (besides a tasty muffin), there are 4 words. Is there a simple way to do this?
designing a Windows based computer program that will allow a user to enter some number (n) and a choice of a count up or count down for that many numbers. So for example, the user enters 5 as their number and selects the count down option, the message box displayed would contain the message: "Here are your numbers: 5,4,3,2,1,0"
I am trying to get a count of all the times a byte sequences occurs in another byte sequences. It cannot however re-use a bytes if it already counted them. For example given the string let's assume the byte sequence was k.k it would then find only 3 occurrences rather than 5 because they would be broke down like: [k.k].[k.k].[k.k]. and not like [k.[k].[k].[k].[k].k] where they over lap and essentially just shift 2 to the right.
Ideally the idea is to get an idea how a compression dictionary or run time encoding might look. so the goal would be to get down to just 2 parts, as (k.k.k.) is the biggest and best symbol you can have.
I am attempting to write a very basic console application which simply counts the number of times a word appears in a sentence. This sentence is input by the user, as is the word to look for.(I also need this search to ignore the full stop and case, but I'll try and do that myself)For example:
Sentence: "This is the last time that I'll say this."
Look for word: "this"
Expected output "2" (as "this" appears twice in the sentence)
I have written some basic code below, however, the output is a boolean value rather than a count of all the times the word has been used.I have a very limited knowledge of VB, so the solution is probably going to be long winded and simplisitic. I am a mature student at university, hence the reason I am writing these odd looking applications.
Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim userSentenceInput As String[code]......

I have a bunch of pdf files in a folder and would like to know the best way to either via a free PDF counter software or programmatically how to count the number of pages for each pdf and put the result in either a excel or access table. I already have the table populated with the pdf filenames. I googled "PDF page counter" and there were a number of hits, however I'm not sure how trust worthy these tools are. So, what some names of trust worthy pdf page counting tools/software and alternatively, are there any good VB.NET code samples that attempt this?
I have a VB report which contains a list of locations. I have this list separated into areas and I need to count the total number of rows per area section. I have a groupHeader which contains my area field, then in the group I list the corresponding entries for that area. Then in the groupFooter I would like to give the total number of entries in the group. How can I do this? I have two fields in my groupFooter

I am writing a simple GUI for a 7-Zip command that will zip multiple directories, with two files in the working directory, to their own separate archives. The problem is that I have no idea on how to count the number if directories (only directories and not files) and find the name of just the first directory. Here is what I have so far:

Design and code a project to calculate the amount due and provide a summaray of rentals. All movies rent for $1.00 and all customers receive a %10 discount. The form should contain input for the member number and the number of movies rented. INside a groupbox display the rental amount, the 10 percent discount, and the amount due. inside a second groupbox, display the number of customers served and the total rental income.(afterdiscount).Include buttons for Calculate, clear, print and exit. The clear button clears the information for the current rental but does not clear the sumarry information. A print button allows the user to print the form. Do not allow bad input data to cancel the program; instead display a message to the user.[code]...
