I have a display system that I created in VS Studio 2005 that uses ini files for certain functions. Reading and writing to ini files is easy enough but what I just can't figure out is how to count the number of items under a particular ini section.

For instance the array comes in this format ID0, ID1, ID3.... IDn, Name0, Name1, ...., Namen, Surname0, surname1, ...., surnamen etc... I want to know the n+1 number of ID's so that I can set it as the upper limit of my array to be able to loop through without setting an arbitrary number.

I want to count the number of times 4 is used in column B. I have looked at using the following, but not sure if this is even the right approach:

The hope is that BCount will equal 2, but it returns 0 every time.

It only seems to work if the first column is an integer datatype, which is the case for my other tables, but the table which I am currently dealing with using a string datatype. Is there another way to count the number of rows without using SQL statements or can I adapt my existing code in some way?
I have a datatable that stores information on employees. What i'm trying to do is use it to run a seniority list looping through the table using the current system date. The looping part i have no problem with, and the system date calculation also i know how to do. The problem call the date from the startDate column to do the calculation.

I have an application where event driven events are already detected. Each time an even is detected I increment a counter.I would like to add the following functionality:
1.) I would like to create a time stamp each time an event is detected and store them in some kind of data structure.
2.) I would like to count how many events are being stored (or in essence count how many events have occurred in the past 10 seconds, not once but continuously).
3.) I would then like to discard of any events older than 10 seconds note events are interrupt driven and can occur more frequently than once a second, but updating my count of how many events have occurred in the past 10 seconds can be done as infrequently as say once a second.
there are any nifty in-built .net methods that can essentially return either the number of occurrences of each element in an array, or simply return the modal value.

View 1 RepliesSo i am count after i find each string example when i find "ADT^A08" it counts how many found in the txt file and then it moves to the next file. My problem is that you can see totalA08 += 1 counts the amount. My problem is that it keeps its old value after each run so the first run counts 5000 and then the next count is 10000. When that last file was the same as the first only 5000. Any ideas on how to properly clear that value after its done [Code]

File version
Release Date
Windows User ID
etc...
After some searching I have been unable to find anything in the existing on-line documentation or code forums which indicates this type of functionality. Is this possible? I have always previously included this sort of information in log files, and have found it useful on numerous occsions in the past, when sourcing information on production issues at customer sites. Admittedly, this functionality was custom built for the solutions and not based on any of the current .NET logging frameworks.
I am parsing a file that has a section between the separators that is 40 characters long. I need to split this into 20 separate strings which will each represent a data column. While already in a FOR statement, I think it would be best to also use something like

I am using XML literals to parse files that contain data. I was wondering if there is a way to take a section of the xml file and pass it as a variable to another function...

I know with XML literals I can use ...<STUFF> and get the info out of that section, but how can I take an entire section of the xml, like MORESTUFF and set it as a variable to pass to another function that can parse that xml?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to build custom configuration section in my app.config file. I am using the following as my example: [URL]. According to this article, I am supposed to inherit from the ConfigurationSection class, add the desired section to my app.config file, and then specify a "configSections" declaration in the app.config file to identify the section and the class that should process it. My problem is that I cannot get the class loader to load my class for processing the section.
If I follow the example and set up my "configSections" as:

I get the following error:
Could not load type 'MyStuff.MyConfigurer' from assembly 'System.Configuration, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'.
I think the error is telling me it can't load my class from the System.Configuration DLL and that makes sense; the class is in my application code. So how do I tell it to look in my application code to find the class? Do I have to put my class in its own DLL to get this to work? As an alternative approach, is there some way I can just find the section in the application configuration and process the XML myself? The app.config file is the ideal location for this information. Also, this would be easier for me than going through all of these contortions to do what should be a relatively easy operation.
I have a text file stored as a string variable. The text file is processed so that it only contains lowercase words and spaces. Now, say I have a static dictionary, which is just a list of specific words, and I want to count, from within the text file, the frequency of each word in the dictionary. For example:

The output I'd like to see is something like the following, listing both the dictionary word and its count. If it makes coding simpler, it can also only list the dictionary word that appeared in the text.

Using a regex (eg "w+") I can get all the word matches, but I have no clue how to get the counts that are also in the dictionary, so I'm stuck. Efficiency is crucial here since the dictionary is quite large (~100,000 words) and the text files are not small either (~200kb each).
I am building the 'TheBeerHouse' project in vb.net (the book is written in C#). Once I understand the concepts, I can usually convert it to vb. However, there are a few areas that give my some problems (which I will address individually). The first issue I have is the C# 'base' to VB 'MyBase'. They have an unknown number of rows and either 2 or 4 columns.I need to put the data into 2 dimensional array, so value(,) becomes either value(lines,3) or value(lines,1) depending on the number of columns.My program needs to be able to count how many columns there are, and redim value(,) appropriately.I have written a piece of code to count the number of lines (rows) in the file using 'While not (EOF(1)) ....' but I'm stuck on how to count the number of columns.I could ask the user to indicate how many columns there are before the file is read, but I would prefer the program to detect the number automatically.
