Remove Item From Multi-Dimensional ArrayList By Query?
Sep 30, 2011I am looking to remove an element from an ArrayList using a query, E.g. DELETE FROM arraylist WHERE (0) = "User1" (Where (0) is the index of the second dimension).
Code:
Dim Users As New ArrayList
Users.Add({"User0", "Details"})
Users.Add({"User1", "Details"})
Users.Remove("User1")
The reason I am looking for a query way to do this is because I will not know what the second dimension value will be.

Mar 20, 2012I want to create an array of an array (or arraylist of an arraylist) to hold strings.I want to fill an array1 with string values Then add this array to array2. - but only taking up 1 row in array2 e.g something like array2(index)=array1 Then clear array1 then loop through this again with different data, and add it to the array2.so will end up with something like
array2(0)... contains a collection of array1 data
array2(1)... contains a collection of different array1 data
.. and so on
i think i need to make new instances of array1 each loop, but not sure.I dont mind if it uses arrays, or arraylists, or lists, or structure of arrayslists?

Feb 11, 2010I use serializer classes for storing data and each class can hold an array of objects for the same class which is a key feature of the class. I declare this array as so:
myClassObjects(1000) as myClass
My question is- can I declare the array as an arraylist so I can sort and count objects in the array(list) quicker and easier and are there any drawbacks to taking this approach?

Oct 13, 2010I'm a beginner at programming so I'm going through the Clearly Visual Basic 2008 book. There is a problem that I'm doing called JM Sales Solution and I need to create a one dimensional array with the information given.
JM Sales employs 8 salespeople. The sales manager wants an application that allows him to enter a bonus rate. The application should use the rate, along with the 8 salespeople, in an array, to calculate each salesperson's bonus amount. The application should display each salesperson's number (1 through 8) and bonus amount. as well as the total bonus paid, in the interface.
I did the interface that's not a problem. My problem is the Create Report code. I had the program running and displaying but it didn't display all eight bonuses or the Bonus and Total Bonus paid at the end. I did some tweaking and now I can't even get it to run again. It's working great, that means that if I delete a childform for example number 2 from all 3 then it creats first number 2 again and then number 4. Now the problem is that It only shows the childformnumber in the parentformtext instead of the name and number of that childform,like this: parentform - childform 1

Since tic-tac toe is 3x3 I created 9 buttons and want either an X or an O to appear depending on where the user clicks. I want one set of instructions to handle the multiple buttons. I was told to use Case statements.

May 30, 2012I need to create a questionnaire with ten questions. The questions can be hard coded as labels. I will have a radio group box for each question, with options, Always, Usually, Sometimes, Seldom and Never. I will then need to store these values for each time that the questionnaire is answered, and another button that will show the question number and the answer count for each question up to that point in time e.g. [Code] I am also assuming I will have a button that when clicked, will identify the active radio button and add 1 to a counter? Copy The List Of Principal User To Arraylist To Use Arraylist.indexof?
Dec 1, 2011What I am doing is iterating through all the groups that belong to the top group (Generic reports). Then I take advantage of the GroupPrincipal.GetMembers(True) which will recurse through a given group name. I test to see if the user exits under that group and if true I put the group name in an arraylist.
I use the for each principal in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers to loop through each returned user to see if they exist.
Is there a way to put all the returned users Principal.Name from a given group in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers into an ArrayList? This would allow me to to use Arraylist1.IndexOf to search for user. Which would be much faster then iterating through a returned list using the for each construct.

Sep 21, 2010What I need to do is read an ArrayList in My.Settings and add another ArrayList to it. The first think I'm trying to do is load My.Settings.Records into myArrayList. I'm not quite sure on the proper way to do this. I've tried things such as Dim myArrayList As ArrayList = My.Settings.Records, I'm not sure if I need New and I'm not sure if I need .Clone or .CopyTo.
Then I have another ArrayList myArrayList2. To get this into myArrayList I've done: [Code] Then to save it back to My.Settings I've done. My.Settings.Records = myArrayList. The problem is I keep on getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on the AddRange line. My.Settings.Records is definitely an ArrayList and it will sometimes = Nothing. The objects will only ever be strings.

I had to convert some C# code to VB and there is a call I make in a third party api that requires me to pass in an arraylist. When I do this in C# it works just fine, but when I do this in VB, I just get back a vaque exception from the api.

It involves 2 lists. The first one is 1-dimensional, the second one is 2-dimensional.The first routine (which operates on the first list) completes in about .015 seconds. The second routine (which operates on the second list), however, takes almost 10 seconds. The only difference is that the second list is 2-dimensional.Is there a way to speed this up or am I doing something wrong? I have a program that requires several 2-dimensional arrays and it's running extremely slow right now. How can I speed it up so I get the same feedback that I'd get if the lists were 1-dimensional?

Feb 17, 2010I have a string containing many lines. Each line has many values separated by commas. Basically it's in CSV format. The number of lines is variable but the number of columns is always 7.
I can get each line into a one dimensional array using Split(Var, Chr(10)).
I'd like to make it a two dimensional array where the second dimension contains each comma separated value.
I've got
Dim VarArray1() As String = Split(VarText, Chr(10))
Dim VaryArray2(0 To VarArray1.Length - 1, 0 To 6) As String
Is there a quick way to get the contents of VarArray1 into VarArray2. I know I can do the following.
For Counter = 0 to VarArray1.Length - 1
Dim line as string = VarArray1(Counter)
Dim Values() as string = Split(line, ",")
For Counter2 = 0 to 6
VarArray2(Counter,Counter2) = Values(Counter2)
Next Counter2
Next Counter
But is there a quicker way to do it that doesn't require passing through each element of VarArray1 and then passing through each element of Values.
The eventual goal in all of this will be to find the highest value in the 3rd column (the arrays are strings at this point because not all columns are numeric). To do that once I get the values into VarArray2 I suspect I have to pass through each element VarArray2, i.e. VarArray2(Counter,2). Unless I can copy the whole third column into a SortedList?

Feb 9, 2010I am having a problem understanding the following error message:
Value of type 1-dimensional array of string cannont be converted to 2-dimensional array of string because the array types have different numbers of dimensions This line seems to be causing the error:
New String((13) - 1) {}
I did a Google search on this but didnt come up with anything useful. I didnt even change the code.I just found this example online and copied/pasted it into a project that Im working on.
