Jun 28, 2009I created a SQL database using the migration tool.I am converting my access forms to VB.net (VS2008).I am wondering if I create a single dataset in studio to the database or do I create a dataset for each form (query)? I am trying to determine what the best solution is. Many of my forms have drop downs that are populated using queries from tables.

Dec 27, 2010I want to create a dataset that I can access from any form. I already created the tables and columns using the dataset designer. I read that I can declare the dataset as public in a module, but when I try to access a table I have to put the name of the module in front otherwise I get a "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference" error. When I declare a variable as public in a module I never have to specify the name of the module to access the variable, so why do I need to do it for a dataset? The code in my module is:

May 18, 2011I've been struggling with this for a while, so I finally decided to ask the question rather than try to figure it out myself.Generally, what I want is a more robust Dataset. I have to do a large quantity of hiarchical calculations, doing a wide variety of calculations.I used datasets for similar situations in the past, but there are some restrictions with datasets that I need to have, such as:Datasets are restrictive in their calculation methods, such as having no method for doing powers calculationsDatacolumns are restrictive in the types they can be, at least in the designer. I need members of this class to be of custom types.
I like the way expressions in datacolumns will calculate only when the dependent columns change. If I build a custom class that recalculates every time the value is accessed, it takes an unacceptable amount of time to recalculate all of the fields. I'd likethe class to only recalculate the value of the field when it needs to.

Jun 10, 2009I have a datagridview that was bound using the wizard and all the column created that way. So I haven't done any code to bind the datagridview. It will pull the data from the database and dataset just fine. My problem is when I create a new row it won't update the dataset or database. I have tried different ways that I thought it would work in the code and still haven't found a usable way to do it yet. Or if I need to do all my binding and columns through code give me an idea where to start if I have to go that route. This is my first experiences with Datagridview. I normally use comboboxes and textboxes to write to a dataset and database which all work very well.

I have written the code to pull down the data into a data store, but I dont know the BEST way to put the data into a set of tables. My first thought was to traverse the nodes and add rows into tables but I figure there must be a native VB process that reads the xml and puts it into the the appropriate table. How to code up the process for getting the data into a set of tables that match the xml. So lets say I have a Summary table, I would like all the data about each track to go into that table. Then I would have a Races table and have the data for each race go into that. What I have done already is import the xml into Access to create the tables (which was a breeze!) and then link that data source to my project. So I have the tables already built.

Another issue is I only have XL 2000, and I won't be able to get 2003 anytime soon. 2003 is what the target computer is using. I would like to develop the app with 2000 and make the appropriate changes to 2003 when I get upgraded. I couldn't get any information on the 2000 PIA here: [URL]. Mar 16, 2012I have read and googled a ton of xml documentation but haven't quite gotten an answer to what Im trying to do. I am trying to create an XSD document that generates explicit type definitions for fields in the dataset. I am then trying to create a sample XML document that validates against the XSD document.
This works fine inside of visual studio because I can read in the schema and the document and it validates BUT, the xml document created has no real reference to the XSD via xlmns or other method. If I want to use this xml data in say MS Excel and I try to import it doesn't know where the XSD is to validate against so it assumes it based on the values. Is there a way in my code to add the xlmns to both the XSD and XML if that is what is needed to solve this? [Code]

The constraint is, we're going to use VB.NET for the client application.We already had a two tiered VB.NET application from our last successfull database application. It use a lot of DataSet for the result of SQL execution. Now, what I had in mind, is a simple approach of converting all procedure that return a DataSet Object, to be a WebService method. But, because of this thinking, I don't think we can do it in Java/PHP. That is, we'll be enforce to use a ASP.NET approach. Is this correct? This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.

May 14, 2012I have tried everything I can to get beyond this error which shows below as <<<<< error here. It is trying to fill a dataset from a data adapter. If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table.
