ComboBox.SelectedValue.ToString ("yyyyMMdd") Method Fails: Conversion From String "yyyyMMdd" To Type Integer Is Not Valid

Jan 26, 2011

am trying to get the following code to work:

Dim testString As String
testString = cbbxStartDt.SelectedValue.ToString("yyyyMMdd")

when doing so the code is being stoped and I get "InvalidCastException" error emssage:

Conversion from string "yyyyMMdd" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

If I do the following, then it works:

Dim testDate As Date
Dim testString As String
testDate = cbbxStartDt.SelectedValue
testString = testDate.ToString("yyyyMMdd")

This, returns the desired value: "20110103"

NB:

cbbxStartDt.SelectedValue.ToString returns: "03/01/2011 00:00:00"

So would it be possible that the problem comes from of the "time bit" : "00:00:00"?if, so is it the parsetime function which would allow to take into account only the time bit value of the combobox?

Create A Conditional Statement After Sql Query ?

Sep 20, 2011

I created a sql query to check if the mobile number is registered or not. If its registered, it will send the new pin code to the customer and if its not, the customer will get a message that "This number is not registered or you are not authorized to this"... something like that... Sending of new code is already working. I just dont know how to make it as conditional statement like PHP. After you query on PHP, you can just set a variable and make a conditional statement..Here is my script in vb.net:

Private Sub CheSMS()
Dim SQLServer As String = My.Settings.SQLServer

ComboBox Event After SelectedValue Changes?

May 3, 2010

I'm using VB 2008. I'm looking for a way to take the value of the combobox after the user selects the right one. The combobox is databound and in List mode allowing selection of only the items in the box. I allow autocomplete by setting:

AutoCompleteMode = SuggestAppend
AutoCompleteSource=ListItems

So the user can key in the right value and the value narrows down each time. The user can press enter or just click somewhere else to select the value. I need a way to display the value of the combo after the selection is made but not each time a user presses an additional key to narrow down the selection.

Bound ComboBox SelectedValue Does Not Display?

I bind a datatable to the combobox.DataSource on load. I then give the combobox aisplayMember and a ValueMember (2 different columns out of the datatable). In the SelectedIndexChanged of the combobox I would like to use the SelectedValue property of the combobox, just to test I MsgBox(combobox.SelectedValue) and I get "Argument 'Prompt' cannot be converted to type 'String'." Why isn't it displaying the value?

Wpf - Bind The SelectedValue Of A ComboBox To A Property?

Sep 27, 2010

I've got a ComboBox with an ItemsSource which I've bound to a List(Of String).What I'd like to do is have the XAML update a String property when the SelectedValue of the ComboBox changes. I've seen a whole bunch of examples for TextBoxes which use

Text="{Binding Path=MyString}"sort of stuff, but I don't really think that'll be the way to go if, in future, I need to change the ItemsSource to a List(Of ObscureObject)...

Create A LINQ Query Statement That Retrieve Intersecting Data From 3 Datatables

Nov 26, 2010

I am trying to create a LINQ query statement that retrieve intersecting data from 3 datatables (dt, dt1, dt2). My first attempt to do so with the following LINQ query statement was successful: [code] However in my design, I would need the LINQ query statement to be dynamically generated, because I want a user to be able to retrieve intersecting data entries from VARIABLE number of datatables. In this case, the first option is not as good as the "INTERSECT" query operator, with which I can just easily connect each SQL query statement with a "INTERSECT" operator. The problem is that my second attempt using the "intersect" operator fails, and after many trials and errors I still can't get it to work. [code]

SQL Server SELECT Stored Procedure According To Combobox.selectedvalue?

Apr 12, 2010

In order to fill a datagridview according to the selectedvalue of a combobox I've tried creating a stored procedure. However, as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing, depending on the WHERE statement at the end of my stored procedure, it either returns everything within the table or nothing at all.This is what's in my class:

Public Function GetAankoopDetails(ByRef DisplayMember As String, ByRef ValueMember As String) As DataTable
DisplayMember = "AankoopDetailsID"
ValueMember = "AankoopDetailsID"[code]....

guess it's down to the WHERE part of the stored procedure, but I need a way to pass the selectedvalue of the combobox into the @AankoopID parameter.

.net - WInforms Combobox SelectionChangeCommitted Event Doesn't Always Change SelectedValue

Mar 23, 2012

I have a WinForms app built with VB.Net in VS 2010, and I'm scratching my head over the following issue.I have a form with a combobox which gets bound to a datasource when the form is loaded:

With Me.cboCompany
.DataBindings.Clear()
.DataSource = Me.m_dsBidResults.Tables("Company")
.ValueMember = "company_id"

[code].....

This seems to work fine, as long as the user doesn't switch focus to some other control and then go back to the combobox. After switching focus, if the user then changes the combobox selection to the first item in the dropdown list (SelectedIndex = 0), the SelectionChangeCommitted event fires, but the SelectedValue remains set to the previously selected value. I've verified this by adding a message box in the above event handler, displaying SelectedIndex and SelectedValue side-by-side.

'add this to SelectionChangeCommitted event handler MsgBox(String.Format("Selected Index: {0}, Selected Value: {1}", cboCompany.SelectedIndex, cboCompany.SelectedValue))

This does NOT happen if the user changes SelectedIndex to anything other than 0; everything behaves as expected. I've verified that the table I'm binding to contains unique values for company_id and company_name.Do I need to use some other event to verify that the SelectedValue has actually changed?

Datagrid And Query : How To Use AND Statement

Nov 30, 2010

In my Form1 i have a datagrid with coulmns: CarName , CarModel , CarColor , CarOwner (there are a lot of data).

I added queries (textboxes that the user writes in text) that can "filter" data when the user want to choose specific CarName or specific CarModel.

textbox1 = CarName
textbox2 = CarModel
textbox3 = CarColor
textbox4 = CarOwner

If the user writes text in TextBox1 then the data shown in the DataGrid is filtered.What if the user want to choose also (!) a carOwner? I know how to use AND statements, but if the user didn't specified a carOwner non of the data is shown although there are this kind of data.

Tell If A LINQ To SQL Query Is Translated To A SQL Statement Or Not?

Oct 15, 2010

We use LINQ to SQL extensively, and one of the biggest performance pitfalls we've run into is situations where a query can't be converted to SQL, and so an entire database table gets loaded into memory and the query performed by .NET. For example, this query

Dim Foo = (From c in Db.Contacts Select c Where c.ContactID=MyContactID)
translates to a simple SQL query, whereas
Dim Foo = (From c in Db.Contacts Select c Where c.ContactID=SafeInt(MyContactID))

doesn't because SafeInt is our own function and doesn't have a SQL equivalent; so the whole contacts table gets loaded into memory and searched by LINQ to objects, which is vastly slower. With a little experience, we've gotten better at avoiding this kind of situation. But it's not always obvious, and this is the sort of problem that's often not revealed until you're working with a lot of data and things start to slow down. Is there a straightforward way to see - whether in Visual Studio or some other way - how LINQ queries will be handled, other than trial and error?
