I have an array with about 10 items in it. In order to get the desired functionality I need to append some text to each item in the array in order to sort it properly. Once it is sorted I want to remove the text I added and then just display the second half of each item in the array. The sort works great, but the split function is not worrk.

Is there a way to use the string.split command to get a section of a string without using an intermediary array?for example, if my string is "1 2" and I want to get the "2" part using string.split(" "), is there a way to avoid creating a new array, and just get the bit of the string I want in a single line?

I have a string which I've split into an array. I need to change a value in the array and join the string together. However I cannot set the value of the array variable as it's read only.Is there any way to do this without creating another array?

I want to take a string from a text box and split each letter of the string into an array. Then, I want to take the first item in the array(the first letter of the string)and capitalize it. Once I've done all that, I want to combine the array and convert it back to the original string it was, except I want the first letter to be capitalized(I've already placed this into a variable.)
Here's what I've come up with so far:
[Code].....
how to combine the array back to a string except I replace the first letter of the original string with the "firstLetter" variable I created.
i want to split a string in a array() i.e. if i enter "input" in the textbox it should stored like.......
s(0)=i
s(1)=n
and so on..
after that the value of s(0) in changed to his ascii code and increment by one then again changed from ascii code to char and should be changed again from a array to string.
for example if i enter a then it should change to b.
it is a just a little prob the bigger one i am facing is to store a file bytes to database and retrieve it back,and i reached to decision that its not possible with ms-access but how to do with mysql and oracle?
I have a string of email [url]...
How can I split it so that I can add to this object[code]...
i know how to split a string(with only one char as the dilimiter)but what i want to do is for example i have a textbox (text1.text)i enter the info heresteve<split>tim<split>eva<split> and so on (7 times )
View 2 RepliesMy program uses parameters from the calling program in this format
parameter1/parameter2/parameter3
parameter2 is a datafile path which may sometimes have a space like :
C:Program Files est company
I did this as a work around
Sub Main(ByVal Args() As String)
dim cArgs as string=""
Dim J As Integer
For J = 0 To Args.Length - 1
cArgs = cArgs & " " & Args(J)
Next
And then used the string split function. Is there a proper way to work with spaces?
I've got a string like

I have a string from a text document that would be formatted for example: "this, is, an, example" and i would like to add this to a gridview on my aspx page.
The above populates the gridview like this:
|this |
|is |
|an |
|example|
how can i get it to add a new colum instead of a new line? For Example:
|this |is |an |example|
I am trying to split a long string of data into an array:

Ive tried a few ways to write out the regex, but to no avail. Also, sometimes responseFromServer2 contains newlines, and sometimes it does not, depending on the response I get from the server...
How can I assign a split parts of a string into an array list directly ?
View 1 RepliesI have a multiline textbox which I need to split into an array using new line as a delimiter, I've tried what I think should work but it doesn't:
HTML
Dim strArr() As String
strArr = TextBox2.Text.Split(Environment.NewLine)
For example, I have string variable (MyString) as below.MyString = "First word || second order || third example || fourth item || fifth stuff"
There are separator "||" at MyString variable. I want MyString variable is spited based on separator "||"and stored it into new array variable.
Could you advise me the most efficient code to do this job in VB?
Trying to split a giant string that is the source of an HTML document after performing an httpget and read the lines into an array while removing empty lines. The following code does not work for me just puts the same string into the array at position (0) without splitting it.[code]...
View 1 Repliesi'm using Regex.Split to convert a text file's string to System.Array. The end result is System.Array of 211 strings.
Now what i need is to convert System.Array to a Byte of 211. How would I accomplish this?
System.Array to Dim x(211) as Byte?? Sample code would be great here. I've already visited many sites on this subject with no luck. code below.

Is this function as efficient as I can make it or can it be done more efficiently? It takes a line of text and turns it into an array of values.If the value delimiter exists inside a string delimiter, that value delimiter is incorporatedinto that value. String delimiters are removed from the values, and so is any leading or trailing white space:
Public Function ParseStringDelimiters(ByVal Line As String,
ByVal ValDelimiter As Char, _
ByVal StrDelimiter As Char) As Array
[code].....
I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words. For Example:Words: trying, long, array Sentence: "I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words."Resulting string array:Multiple instances of the same word is likely, so having two instances of trying cause a split, or of array, will probably happen.
View 5 RepliesI want the Function to accept List(Of String), Array & String and similarly return List(Of String), Array & String respectively. The Function simply adds a string (month) to the input collection. I just want to use it for string, array and list with needing to think of conversions.
[Code]...
Public Function Foo() as String() Dim bar As String = {"bar1","bar2","bar3"}
Return bar End Function
My situation is similar to the code sample above where I'm returning a string array from a function.
What I would like to do is just return the string array without having to declare a variable first and then return the variable.Something like this, although this obviously doesn't work:
Return {"bar1","bar2","bar3"}
Is it possible to do this, I can't seem to find a method that works?
I saw a built in function in VBscript a while back that converted a string with spaces to an array. However I can't remember the name and I looked it up in a few function listings and couldn't find it. Since almost all the functions that are in VBcript are in VB.NET I was wondering if anyone remembered the name of the function.
View 2 RepliesI would like to create a split container with a three way split. The first split is a vertical split. The second is creating a horizontal split within panel2 of the first split container. panel1 will hold a treeview control the other two panels will hold listview controls
I think this question has been asked already in a couple different ways and I've reviewed those posts and I've tried to do what was suggested but it doesn't seem to work for me. I've tried to place a second split container inside panel2 of the first split containter. This gave me what appeared to be a three way vertical split.
I've been trying to reuse my bosses vb.net buildpacket code which he has successful used for Serial programming eg. SerialPort1.Write(buildpacket(useraddress,252,"0006","0") for the function listed below.My challenge.Create equivalent functionality for Socket BeginSend() which requires a byte array.Whether modifying the vb.net below or getting a c# equivalent to work, it has been repeatedly recommended to scrap the string concatenation approach for which I have to use Encoding.BigEndianUnicode.GetBytes() and then getting rid of extra bytes with zero values.
I'm lacking in imaging something different which would work for socket programming directly and allow me to eliminate all the hassles that c# integer conversions into string value that can be encoded trouble free.I would need to call the equivalent of the following that would return a byte array rather than a string with the following arguments
1. Source address (0-255)
2. Destination address (0-255)
3. Function code ("0001" through "0100")
4 Packet Data Unit (pdu - some integer value

How to create a function that replace the apostrophe (') into empty string?
View 3 RepliesI have a string where I have created a template so to speak.
{
Dim myvariable as string
Richtextbox1.text = Richtextbox1.text & "The dog jumped over the" & myvariable & "to find the fox."
}
I have a list box that contains a list of options that loads into the variable example: fence, bucket, etc.
So the sentences would read like
The dog jumped over the fence to find the fox The dog jumped over the bucket to find the fox
Right now I have it coded to display into a rich text box but everything is in the same rich text box.
I'm trying to load the string into an array at the end of each loop this way I can then have each sentence separated.
How do i use a while loop and MID$ function instead of the split function?
