Ok, I want to create a class that will handle a special rectangle graphic.In my form, I want to have two of these special rectangles. So, basically, I need two instances of that class in my form, right?I manage to initialize two, alright. That image needs to have a grid over it with 72x72 pixel squares. I have another image that I use as a hover image for the mouse, what I need is for that image to jump to the next square rather than moving smoothly.
Basically it's just a map where you can place building tiles. However you can't place building tiles everywhere so the "place" image needs to move to the next available building spot.
I have a grid and i have a popup contextmenu. My problem is the contextmenu is popup in the same screen location, and not on the location of the mouse.

I'm in the process of developing an application to keep track of employee's shifts. the top of the grid should display the days, the left side the employee name. The grid will display the type of shift (N for night, D for day) I just need some direction as to how to develop the calendar grid...I have a database with all the required information (I have a "Shifts" table, which contains the employee name, the date of shift, and the type of shift). Times are not relevant since employees will be either working a night or day shift (type of shift). I'm using VB9 for this project.

I have a databound datagridview.I have disabled automatically adding new rows to the grid. I need to store elements in a multidimensional array. Specifically, I need to save "tiles" to a grid (e.g.Grass at x:2 y:5, Dirt at x:3 y:5, etc.). Using a multidimensional feels very hacked up and is very glitchy (having to resize my arrays and having to create new ones were they are non-existant). Is there some kind of element made for this? Something I can say obj.getPos(2,5) and get my Grass Element and use obj.setPos(DirtObj, 3, 5) to set it to my Dirt Element?
I'm just wondering if there is something easier to use than multidimensional arrays in vb.net, that is all.
I am using VB.NET to try and capture a portion of the screen so I found this code in several places to capture the whole screen:

View 2 RepliesI am creating a multiplayer chess game in Visual Basic.Net and I need to create tiles for the game. Earlier, I used buttons for the tiles, but then I realized that not only did they look ugly, but the coding part also became a problem. Also, the images of the chess pieces didn't properly fit on the buttons and they became distorted. Also, shifting the image to a different button every time a move was played also became very inefficient. So, in view of these difficulties, I want to build a proper board, but I have no idea where to start from or what controls to use for the design.

I am creating an application with mlutiple forms. When you click on a button in the main menu, the main menu will close and the new window will be diplayed. When you hit back on the new window, the main menu will be displayed.I know how to show new forms by using Form1.Show(). When I try to return to the main menu by hitting a back button I created, the main menu does not show up, but the program continues running. I believe that this is in the correct forum due to it being about creating an interface item, but if I am wrong then let me know and I'll try and bring this thread to the attention of the mods to be moved to a more appropriate forum. I am currently trying to create a generic navigation control with a similar style to the outlook navigation bar. I have figured out how I would be able to dynamically create the bottom part where you select the menu option, but I'm struggling to figure out how I would be able to create the top part, which can contain any user control that the developer would want.
So basically what I'm trying to figure out is, is there a way to allow for a developer to add controls to a specific area of your user control?If there is a way of achieving that then if anyone knows how to do this;In ASP.Net you have the login controls and with one of them, you are able to have different views depending on whether the user who is viewing the web page is logged in or not. Is there a way of achieving this in VB.Net for a user control that could be set up so that I could have the developer able to switch the view in the designer to show them the view for when a specific navigation option has been selected.
The one thing that I have thought of that could possibly cause a problem is having the capability of knowing when one of the user controls has been clicked, while I haven't figured this out exactly, I believe I should be able to achieve this by having an event for the navigation user control that provides the developer a reference to the control.
While I would hope that I have explained what I'm thinking well, its before my first coffee of the morning so I might have missed out some detail which would help someone to help me if I have then please let me know and I'll provide any details required.Also if what I'm envisioning is Pie in the sky, then let me know and I'll just have to make a base which I would just have to make a more bespoke system.

This works fine. But when the grid is dropped on a TabControl tabpage, the ctrl-tab looks very different to the sub above. e.keycode is seen as controlkey {17} I realize that by default cntrl-Tab moves between tabpages. I need to override this behavior. My thought is I probably need a subclass of the tabControl which will pass the keycombo through just as the form does but I confess to being clueless as to how to accomplish that. I tried to override the onkeydown of a tabcontrol subclass and just issuing a return and not and base call to onkeydown if the ctrl-tab combo was pressed but it seemed to see the e.keycode as controlkey as well.

View 2 RepliesWe have a GIS application that has some performance issues. It creates and sends an image to a web browser. We start with a Bing Maps imager, add complex polygons (complete with transparent fill), save the finished image as a PNG, and send it to the browser.
The idea has come up that we could possibly install a graphics card and use DirectX or OpenGL to improve performance. I believe this would be the case even though we ultimately generate an image instead of sending the data the the screen. I believe our processes could still make use of the API and the hardware acceleration it provides. Our process is not unlike what CGI film makers do to render individuals frames of a film, though we simply render a single image and send it, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of images needed for a single CGI film.
So my question is: would a powerful graphics card and use of DirectDraw or OpenGL provide us a worthwhile performance boost? It can take us 20-30 seconds to render a more complex map. Which is a long time to wait on a web page...

need to have a summation field in each row of a grid in visual basic. Each row needs to calculate the remaining quantity of its row and all other rows beneath it. Thus the subtotal field in the 1st row would equal the sum of the shown quantity field for the entire grid.The next row would include its value and all those beneath it. Its subtotal value would be less than the subtotal of the row above it (by the quantity value of the 1st row). My code for the grid is very simple I just can't figure out how to add this iteration.

View 5 RepliesAs I understood , The property grid is given an object which it can manipulate by extracting its Properties using reflections.
My problem is that I have a set of Parameters that is determined during run-time , thus I can't staticly compose a class with properties to represent this set.
I have two idea in mind to solve this problem but both are complex and will probably consume lot of time , infact i will say they are not practical under my time constraints. One is to use Reflection Emit in order to define a class dynamically and the other is to dynamiclly build a C# source file and then compile it using CodeDom.
Can Property grid behave in a different manner( other then extracting the Properties of an object using reflections ) that can suite my problem?
I want to say that the reason I went to the property grid from the begining was its ability to provide realy nice Data Retrieval UI for common types.For color you autometically get a palette , For dataTime you automatically have a nice calender. I would like to get those things automatically If possible.
