Custom Fonts Loaded As Resource
Aug 2, 2011
I am trying to use custom fonts in my VB.NET application which are resources in my project as opposed to fonts that are installed on the system. I found a great example which works great for labels, however, I am having difficulty extending this functionality to other controls, such as listbox. I have seen other examples which get the font resource and dump it temporarily to a file, and then make reference to it, which I want to avoid. Hoe to extend this logic to other controls, such as listbox.

I have two rich text boxes, and two buttons on my screen. The first button grabs HTML from a URL and then converts the HTML to XML which resides in rich text box 1.
The second button is to grab the XML from the rich text box1 and then parse it to grab all the input elements by their ID.
My issue is that my parser isn't doing anything. My guess is that I'm not quite getting the XML from the first rich text box.
What would be the best way to grab the XML from a rich text box load it into memory and then parse the XML to grab all the ID tags?
Here is my code --
Imports mshtml
Imports System.Text
Imports System.Net
[Code].....

I need to refer to some strings using an "indirect string" in the registry. It should be in this form:
@filename,resource
MSDN: "If the resource value is zero or greater, the number becomes the index of the string in the binary file. If the number is negative, it becomes a resource ID."How can I find out either of these numbers for my resources that only have names in VB? I also need the ID/index for the exe's icon.

I have a resource file that I include in my shared code library that has all of my re-usable classes in it (all the resources go into their own namespace). Now, what is the best practice regarding resources... should I include them in the same DLL, or should I have a seperate resource DLL and/or are there any benefits from seperating them out into their own file.

I am struggling with this issue, which is probably something simple. How do you change the font style and font size while a VB application is running? I want to to be able to choose a different font and size based on choices from the ToolStripComboBoxe(s).

I was just adding some neat features to my program, and now I realize that they've caused problems with my formatting features. In my program, you can bold, underline, italicize, and strikethrough the text you select. You can also change the color and font of the text. After adding in the ability to change the font of the selected text, I noticed that there was a problem when you tried highlighting the entire word, with some characters in the word having different fonts, and then formatting (bolding, underlining, etc.) the text. The error I get is[code]...
Notice how the "Ma" is in the Comic Sans MS font and that the "th" is in the Arial font. If I were to highlight this word on my program and try bolding it, the error would pop up.

I am trying to manually adjust character spacing between letters when drawing text with GDI. I am doing this by drawing each letter at a time. The problem is that you lose all the font kerning when you do this. How to get kerning data for fonts? Presumably you would send it the letter pair you want to get the offset for. Then when I draw each letter at a time I can subtract the offset for each letter pair.

Please Correct me if I have posted this in the wrong forum, I have a relatively simple question, I'm looking for a way to use Non-True type fonts in Visual basic. Specifically in a Forms app, and I'm looking to use said fonts in a Non-User Input object. (Label) If it helps, I'm looking to use Some Adobe Fonts such as Myraid Pro.

I have a button on a form. I would like it to read something like[code]...
and have the 8 countdown. Is there a way of having the 'Dialing In:' bit in one font size and the '8' bit in another font size?
I've googled but all I'm finding is how to set the font at runtime rather than how to have two different fonts at the same time.

I am working on a a program that uses a textbox to display data from a telescope. Normally the data is standard ASCII characters, but there is one time when the data is displayed as blocks to indicate the number of degrees to go. The textbox font is set to Sans Serif in the property box. When I show the blocks, I want to switch to Wingdings. I have searched how to change the textbox font and tried several ways found, but none of them work. I know that the textbox will handle Wingdings - I can set the font property and it displays correctly.
The most common method I have seen is: txtDisplay1.Font = New Font("Wingdings",26.0, FontStyle.Regular) ,but like all the other methods tried, the font never changes.
