Custom Made Bindable Structure?

Oct 1, 2009

As a coding exercise, I would like to know if it is possible to build a bindable data structure that would have a dynamic collection of field objects, in which each field not only would have a specific data type, but also would hold the value for that field. That is, is not like a DataTable where you can have many rows, I only want to manage a single collection of values.

.net - Create Custom DataTable Which Is Bindable To WinForms Controls?

Aug 25, 2011

Our shop primarily use "ADO objects" (I'm referring to DataSet, DataTable, and DataRow) for marshaling around data and manipulating it on forms and in grids. We are experimenting with creating shop-flavored counterparts to the native ADO objects so that we can impose our in-house standards on top of them. Implementing this is straightforward with one exception: I want our objects to be bindable to controls.

I'm aware of IList, IBindingList, BindingSource, etc. and have looked at and experimented with these, but I am falling short when it comes to making a class with no hard property names bindable. The native ADO objects are not strongly typed by default. You have column values that you access via the Item property (e.g. row("Age") or row.Item("Age")). The binding examples I've found online deal with strong-typed objects (e.g. row.Age). Essentially, we want to create custom ADO objects (not inherited from the native ones) that still retain their ability to bind to controls. In a grid I would expect to see columns Name, Age and Occupation from a row where these properties are exposed via row("Name"), row("Age") and row("Occupation"). This must be doable as this is exactly what the native DataTable and DataRow provide.

IDE :: Importing Custom Made Controls From Another Project

Feb 26, 2009

I'm developing a solution that I'm going to split into two different directions.I've built custom controls for the first application, and now I'm creating a new solution where I'm importing all the Forms and Modules to the new solution I'm developing by using "Add Existing Item" from the Solution ExplorerWhen doing this, most of the errors I'm receiving I'm able to correct by "Find & Replace" with the new name of the new solution. (They seem to be references to the old name of the solution, that I simply replace with the new name. Example. Global.Xname..... I now replace with Global.Yname.

.net - Not Retaining Changes Made To Values Of Properties In A Custom Class?

Jun 10, 2011

I created this function to remove vbCrLf from the values of properties in a Custom Class:(vTransaction)

Public Function ValidateTransaction(ByRef vTransaction)
Dim property1 As String
Dim value1 As String
For Each p As System.Reflection.PropertyInfo In vTransaction.GetType().GetProperties()
If p.CanRead Then

[Code]...

Throughout testing I can verify that vbCrLf is being replaced with a space as expected. When I re-examine vTransaction the changes have not been retained and the vbCrlf's are still there. What do I need to do to retain the changes being made to values in vTransaction.

Invoke Form - Custom Made Messagebox Opens But It Freezes

Apr 14, 2012

I am having Socket server, and I have two forms. One is the main form for the server and the other one is a custom made messagebox. When a request comes to the server the main form has to invoke the second form (messagebox). When the main form is open for the first time everything works fine. But when I close the main form without closing the application and open it again and request comes to the server the custom made messagebox opens but it freezes and looks like this:

Create A Custom Tree(view) Structure?

Jan 1, 2012

I'm looking for a way to create the treeview structure in memory with a classes, so I can loop through them, like with a collection and easily load the data into a treeview, listview, datagridview or simply work with the data in the background.

There's a treenode class that I could use, but I've noticed that when I have a lot of data in the nodes, it has a lot overhead when for example serializing, because it also saves the checked state, imageindex of the nodes and things like that, which I never need. The saved file is about 10 times bigger than the actual data, which is not acceptable.

Asp.net - Make Enum Bindable To Datagridview

Dec 10, 2009

I have an object which contains a number of string properties and an enum property called CRAction.

I have another object which represents a collection of the above object.

When I bind the collection object to something like a gridview, all of the string properties bind fine, but the enum doesn't appear.

I have added another string property which returns CRAction.ToString, but is there a better way to make an enum bindable to a control as part of an object?

It all seems a little hackish to have another property for the same thing purely for data binding!

"Enemies has three properties which are: "Name as String, Health as String, and Dead as Boolean".The thing I need is when I add a Enemy to the listbox, I want the BackColor of the item to either be Red or Green, depending on if the Item.Dead property is false or true.

Make A Custom Made Browser Default Browser

Feb 12, 2012

I coded a web browser over the course of a year called Nova - very advanced with tabbed browsing, bookmarks, homepage, history, etc etc etc etc. I could go on all day about how advanced it is. But.. there is one flaw. You cannot make it the default browser; I don't know the code!I already know the CommandLineArgs stuff so it actually opens the HTML file rather than just opening the program; in fact, I already can make files open with Nova completely. It's just the other stuff - you know, when a website is to be opened from a help file or something, it opens with Nova, Windows recognises it as the default browser, stuff like that.

Make A Custom Made Browser The Default Browser

Feb 11, 2012

Other topics around the Internet are all unfinished topics, so I'll ask this myself. How do I set a self-made browser as the default browser? I know it has something to do with accessing the registry and checking what the value is in some places, but I'm not quite sure. Now, I've made this browser called Nova;

very well coded and advanced, tabbed browsing, bookmarks, homepage, history, can change default search provider, uses Gecko as its engine so it's not just an IE shell, etc. It's been developed over the past year and will still continue to be developed. I'm almost ready to release the first version - but I just need this annoyance solved.

Class Structure - Large Structure That Has Lots Of Properties ?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm new to VB 2008 after having spent a long time with VB6, so I apologize if this is a stupid question. But I'd really like to have this straightened out.

Let's say I have a pretty large structure that has lots of properties.

Code:

Now say that I want an internal database with about 10 instances of this structure total, describing, say, 10 different products that a store sells. When these values are loaded from a database, they remain totally static. (However, they can be different each time a program loads)

Now say that I have a class. Each instance of this class is a type of that BaseProduct structure. Meaning, each instance of the class pertains to one of the 10 types of products that the store sells. However, this class has additional properties that pertain specifically to each instance, which are not static.

Code:

Now, the problem here is... If I have 200 different transactions, each one contains an instance of BaseProduct. BaseProduct is HUGE, and is largely redundant (only 10 types possible), so I think it's a little silly to include a whole copy of it with EVERY transaction. However, the Transaction class really needs information regarding the base product it pertains to. Is there a way to, instead of declaring a New BaseProduct in the Transaction class, to simply make one of the properties of the Transaction class a pointer to a BaseProduct variable?

In VB6, I would accomplish this by making a BaseProduct(10) array, and then giving each Transaction an ID number referring to an entry in that array. But in VB 2008, using class structure, this is impossible. I can't define the BaseProduct(10) array outside of a class in a namespace, and if I define it in the actual application's form, then the class loses modularity since it relies on the application that's using it.

Converting Structure Within Structure To Byte Array For Socket

Aug 29, 2009

I am trying to communicate with an external device and i am trying to send a byte array to the external device via sockets but i am always getting a response the message size is too small so i am not sure what i have done wrong. Between the data type there should be no alignment present and all numbers are represented in little endian format. The char array is not null terminated as mentioned in the protocol specifications.

I have to send data based on a struct that embeds 2 other struct. So here's my vb.net code for the struct used to convert to byte array and the sending part.

Dim UserName() As PSTRING
