I've been working with the substring command and after coding up all the things I needed it to do, I saw a post on here where the "For Each" statement was used basically to do the same thing.Lets say we just want to take a string apart one character at a time and add each character to a label. Which would be more efficient?I made a cheap example to show ...
Code:
ABinary = "0110 1100 0001 1011"
For x = 0 To Len(ABinary) - 1
[code].....
in my application i am using access database which has many columns including column for time. but when the data is stored, it shows date along with the time. u can see the attached image
View 4 RepliesI need to be able to pull a list of reference from a database whixh ar 12 characters long. Unfortunatley i dont want the first character from each reference number as it is useless but just has to be there.
anyway of saying "list refernce numbers, not including the first character"?
I would like to check the format of a string value (contained in a variable) before using it in further code.
- It must be 8 characters in length (no more, no less)
- It must be in the following format: 2 digits + 1 letter + 5 digits
I imagine the VB.NET code would be something along the lines of:If CStr(strMediaNum) (...not in the form [2 digits + 1 letter + 5 digits]...) Or (...datalength not equal to eight characters...) Then Exit Sub EndIf
I am trying to do a SQL query that checks for the presence or absence of a character's occurance in a field / column as a condition to retrieve the row. In this case I only need to test for existance of the specified character and in a similar query to test for the non existence. Not where it is or how many, just is it there or is it notI am using VB express.net 2008 and it uses, I think, MS SQL Server 2008.Using VB's instr() I can tell straight away if a string does or doesn't contain a character, but I would like to know this before I retrieve the row.
using the
WHERE .... and [mytable.myfield] LIKE 'Q'
or
WHERE .... and [mytable.myfield] NOT LIKE 'Q'
produces a result, but not a correct result. It does something but I can not say that it is working even part way.CHARINDEX gets an undefined function error MATCHES also gets an undefined function error?CONTAINS looks like it should work but I am still getting sytax errors with it, so I don't know how to use that predicate yet.
I'm adding a textbox to my grid as follows and formating it as a date.But reagrdless it doesn't seem to want to format it as a date.Further how would I prevent, for just a single column, the user from entering anything but numbers and "/"'s?[code]
View 5 RepliesI have a datagridview (windows forms) that is inside an mdiChild form. The custom format is given by a "for" instance, something like this:
For row As Integer = 0 To .Rows.Count - 1
If .Rows(row).Cells("someNumber").Value = 0 Then
.Rows(row).DefaultCellStyle.BackColor = Color.DarkSeaGreen
End If
Next
So, for every row in the grid that you find, if ther value in the "somenumber" =0 paint the whole row green. Problem is, if I put the form OUTSIDE of the MDIParent - just put frmMyform.show() in my btn that calls the form-, the grid WILL apply the format; If I call it like frmMyform.mdiparent = frmMdi, then frmMyform.show, the grid WILL NOT apply the format.
This code blow give me this error:
Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.
Code
sqlstr = "select excute_main.*,cycle_main.cust_id,customers.name2 from excute_main,customers,cycle_main where date2 between '" & Format(MaskedTextBox1.Text, "MM-dd-yyyy") & "' and '" & Format(MaskedTextBox2.Text, "MM-dd-yyyy") & "' and excute_main.main_id=cycle_main.id and cycle_main.cust_id=customers.id"
am using visual basics to develop a search on my project using the date picker but any time i try to search for a date on my SQL database i received the following error message from my programme. "Conversion failed when converting data and/or time from character string "
View 5 RepliesWhen using INSERT INTO statement to SQL 2008 R2 to a column with data type as date and the data I am taking from a DateTimePicker control with date format as short. When my system date format short set to dd/MMM/yyyy the INSERT INTO statement is working perfectly but when the system date format short set to dd/MM/yyyy I am getting the above error.I tried by changing the control format to custom and dd/MMM/yyyy but still the same error is coming.I am using VB2010 and SQLExpress 2008 R2 SP1?
View 2 Repliescmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO Dropping (form_num, filing_date, approval_date, status) VALUES ('" + fnum + "', '" + deyt + "', '" + nulll + "', '" + stat + "')"
here is an sql query statement i run in vb.net. i keep getting the error of "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string." whenever i try to execute this. the datatype of filing_date and approvale_date is "text" but the deyt variable is originally Date, converted to string: (Date.Today).ToString, like so. nulll is simply a variable with vbNullChar as its value.
I used to query:
Dim a As String
a = "INSERT INTO tblVisitor(Name, Sex, TimeIn, EnterDate)
VALUES('"& txtName.Text &"', '"& cboSex.Text &"', '"& Now() &"', '"& DateTime.Parse(cboEnterDate.Text) &"')"
[code]....
Which cboEnterDate is my DateTime Picker. Then I got the message:Conversion failed when converting date time from character string.
The error is: Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.Basically I'm trying to make it so that when someone clicks a location in a list box it increments the correct field in a Stats table by 1 to say that they clicked the location. I've been trying to solve this for a while now and can't get anywhere. My date is in date format, and so is the Date field in my Stats table. My code can be seen below.
Dim Current As String
Dim Check As String
Dim objCmd2 As Object
[code]....
The issue comes in with the second SQL statement I think. I don't understand why adding a date into a date field would be an issue, I've tried adding it as a string which didn't work.
Dim i as integer
For i = 0 to 365
sqlinsert.InsertCommand="insert into cashdate (date) values (getdate()+'" & i & "')"[code]....
getdate is a function in the database that returns the datetime of now i have an error that says conversion failed when converting date or time from character string .what to do now ??
I have the following [cod]e...
But the label still shows the [b]! It doesn't want to delete itself..
The insert statement work
Code:
str = "Insert into login values('" & Format(DateAndTime.Today, "Short Date") & "','" & _
txt_user_id.Text & "','" & DateAndTime.TimeOfDay & "','None','" & remarks & "')"
Login Table Looks like this
tdate | userid | timein | timeout | remarks
i left timeout to none because the user didnt log out yet but when I try to hit logout I use this statement
Code:
str = "Update login set timeout = '" & DateAndTime.TimeOfDay & "' and remarks = '" & _
remarks & "' where userid = '" & txt_user_id.Text & _
"' and YEAR(ldate) = " & DateAndTime.Today.Year & _
[code]....
were I set timeout = currenttime but instead of saving the time to the database it saves only "0" and I dont know why it update statement returned zero and supposed to be the currenttime. I user Oledb and MS Access 2007 as database?
[Code]...
For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
I am writing a hangman type game and I am displaying the word to the user in a label as all *'s, but I cannot figure out how to have just one of the *'s changed in the label to the correct letter when the user inputs the correct letter into the text box and clicks the check letter button.Everything else in the program works perfectly, except for this part.[code]When I use the .Replace it changes all of the *'s to the correct selected letter.

I have a function that is getting passed a String and a DataRow.The String is a custom formatter. The idea is to do this
String.Format(passed_in_String, DataRow("ColumnINeed"))
The reason this is being done is at this point we have no idea what the column contains.However, if the formatter is "{0:MM/dd/yyyy}" and the DataRow("ColumnINeed") is an integer containing 42, String.Format is returning: MM/dd/yyyy In this situation I need it to throw an exception instead of returning nonsense.Is there anyway to make String.Format throw an exception if the object does not match what the format string is expecting?
the coding is to 'Get input string and put its character into List, and replace the character with other.'but having problem putting each character into List and also replacing it,[code]

View 1 Repliesformat Gridview's unbound column in 12hr format? i tried the following code, it didnt work.

There is a varchar column in the database table in this format of military time 1230 or 1750 or 1320 and that field get populated into a gridview in asp. I need to convert that string to standard time. I have tried the DateFormatString and nothing seems to work.
the asp is
<asp:BoundColumn DataField="ScanTime" SortExpression="ScanTime" ReadOnly="True"
HeaderText="Scan Time" DataFormatString="{0:hh}:{0:mm} {tt}">
<ItemStyle Width="80px"></ItemStyle>
</asp:BoundColumn>
that DateFormatString causes Input string was not in a correct format. error.
I have tried combinations of hh:mm and things like that but since its a varchar I think its failing
Is there a way of converting a unix time stamp to normal format time and date in .NET?
View 3 RepliesSo I need a format string to pass to String.Format that would "move" the decimal point.I can't perform any math operations before doing the String.Format, so it has to work right off the bat.Basically I'm emulating a formatting string from a proprietary server. In it if I say:
"MR2"
for the value:
12345
The result is:
123.45
I'm close with this, but it's not spot on:
String.Format("{0:#0.##}", 12345)
an extra, but not necessary... there is also MR2Z, which moves the decimal 2 left, but if the value is 0 "" is returned.

How can i get around this problem? rename all files with ' character?
however, i'm copying this directly from the book in its example format and still getting an error.
FormatException was unhandled
Input String was not in correct format
