View 2 RepliesHow to Filter a Database Query Using a List..
View 2 RepliesCould not find this through Google or in SO questions.I have a checkbox listbox on my form. I want to filter my List by the list of selected Ids from that listbox that are checked, in SQL I would have done this like "Where TypeId In (1, 4, 5, 7)"... how do I do that in LINQ?
I feel like I am missing a really obvious answer, but cannot get it.
For argument sake... here is the what I have for sample data:
In Colors (List<of currentColors>)
ID, Name, TypeId
1, Red, 1
2, Blue, 1
3, Green, 2
4, Pink, 3
Selected Types 2 and 3 in CheckboxList: filteredColors

I'm trying to access the SQL DB I have designed within my project in Visual Basic 2010 (.NET code seems to work for me 99% of the time) at runtime so that a user can select a method by which to filter a DataGridView.I have a fantasy football draft application that fills the DGV from a Table Adapter. The database is named NFLPlayerDataBase.mdf, the dataset used to fill the DGV is TabNFLPlayers11BindingSource1, the table adapter is TabNFLPlayers11Table Adapter1. The DGV is dgvDraft. Idk if that helps at all.If the user wants to look at only RBs while making their draft choice, I want them to be able to select RB from a drop-down and have the DGV be filled with the query that selects only RBs from the table. I have the drop-down already set and am able to fill in the DGV when the form initializes. I just can't get it to fill with the query request for a specified position.The table I'm looking to use from the .mdf is tabNFLPlayers11 and the column header that will be searched through the filter is "Position." Options are QB/RB/WR/TE/K/DST and will be selected by the user from a drop-down.I cannot find a way to even open the connection whenever I change the value of the drop-down.
View 2 Repliesi'm trying to make a query to a sql database, so when the user enters the id, the columns related to that id will be displayed. but, im getting an error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

I have a question about error handling. I have a Try...Catch Error Handling block and with in the Try section I query a database to get a list of files that need to be opened by AutoCAD (using an AutoCAD script file) and a PDF generated of that DWG file. My problem is that sometimes a user has that particular drawing open that it detects to open up and PDF. I use the following code to determine if it is open or not.

[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?
View 6 RepliesWhat I am trying to do basically is open an access query in a datagrid view and then be able to make changes to the datagrid and then save it back to the database.When I try to save:
Me.BindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TableAdapter.Update(DataSet)
It says that update is not a member of the tableadapter... Why is that?
I'm trying to filter my access database and when I "search" by name, it works, but when I search by policy number it doesn't seem to work.
Here's my code:
If RadioButton3.Checked = True Then
Form3.Show()
Me.Close()

How do you carry out a query from a criteria e.g name entered by the user from a textbox. and then display the query results in a list box..
View 2 RepliesMy problem is once I filter my datagridview I cant seem to be able to update the database. The error I get is Concurrency violation: the Update Command affected 0 of the expected 1 records. Why is it that I cant update after i filter????
View 1 RepliesI want to make my checkboxes to work as a filter for my DataGridView. The checkbox.text is the thing I wanted to use for filtering.My problem is that, when I click on the button with one or more checkboxes checked, my datagridview shows no data. (Of course, before I pushed the button it did).

I am currently developing a program that was first built within access using VBA.My program is a search form connected to an access database, which is itself linked to a dbf database.I managed the code from access to a new program, but I am stuck with one line of code;How can I open a form (which shows the filtered data) using a filter (a string built with the input boxes).
The code in vba is:
DoCmd.OpenForm "frm", , , Left(strWhere, lngLen), acFormReadOnly
where FRM = the form showing the data
strwhere = SQL string
lnglen = number of characters in strwhere.
How can I do the same in a Visual Studio 8 environment (Visual Basic -idontknowwhat-) ?
I have a DataGridView that is bound to a datatable. I also have a combo box with sorting items in it. When the user selects a new item in the combo box, the DataBindingSource.filter is changed accordingly.
For the cell and row validation on the DataGridView, I set the row error text accordingly as opposed to displaying a message box.
Occasionally, when switching between items in the combo box, the datagridview gets filled with a bunch of empty rows that all have error messages. It seems it is validating the rows that existed from the previously selected filter against the new filter.
See attached image. I hope I am making myself clear.
I used the data wizard to create a binding source, and table adapter, etc. I have a form and I have the fields on the form. All is good. The data is loaded via the .FILL method using the DEFAULT FILL,GetData() funtion created by the wizard. All is good. Now I want to filter out some of the records so I created a new FILL method (using the data source editor).
It is called FillByCountry() and the SQL statement looks like this "Select * from StampCollection WHERE Country = "Canada". Simple enough and when I test the query, I get what I expect. Now - suppose on the form I have a button and I when the user presses the button, the filter is enabled. So when the form loads, I have the standard lines to load the data... StampCollectionTableAdapter.Fill(SCDBDataDataSet.StampCollection)
In VS 2008, VB.Net, I am successful connecting to a local SQL Server (version 8) and seeing all tables/views/procedures in Server Explorer. The local OS is Win XP Pro SP3. I created an ODBC data source to a remote SQL server (also version 8) with a database of the same structure as the local one. The connection tests out ok. The remote computer runs Windows Server 2000 SP4. In the VS 2008 Server Explorer I add this ODBC source. When I click on the plus-signs to expand items, neither the tables nor the views show anything, whereas the full list of procedures appears. Is it the old SQL Server version? Is it the old Server OS version? Something else alltogether?

View 6 RepliesI've been trying to figure out how to use the CONTAINS clause for the last couple of days, on and off. The appropriate datatable is configured for full-text search, but whenever I run the program and come to the point where this query is run, I get this error "Syntax error: Missing operand after 'CONTAINS' operator.". Here is the code:[code]....
I've tried replacing the "*" with parenthesis, percentages, and deleting them, but it always gets the same result. What is the correct syntax to use the CONTAINS clause within the .filter query or is there some work around or something that I am missing?
I have a LINQ query:[code]How can I pass "MyField" to the Sub and make the LINQ "Where" clause work?
View 2 RepliesI've been trying to add a database to my interface, and i can't seem to filter the data, i want to search based on last name and only display people with the that last name (the last name will be entered in a search form).I've tried writing SQL Queries but I can't seem to pass the variable that that holds the last name into the SQL Query, to filter the data.
View 3 RepliesI've got a datacontext and created a binding source using LINQ to sql but cannot filter said bindingsource. The supportsfilter of the bindingsource is set to false ? why ? I can't find any info to say that I cannot filter a binding source based on a linq query.[code]

View 9 RepliesI need to filter out characters like /?-^%{}[];$=*`#|&@'"<>()+,. I need replace this with empty string if it is there in the query string. I am using this in ASP pages.
View 3 Replieshave a query in SQL, returns the results I expect, however when I copied this query to a bindingsource.filter call,I get "Missing Operand" errors

I'm develloping a small application over na Access 2007 database. how can i pass the value of a combobox to a query being built with the query builder tool?If I use ? in the Filter column Im prompted to enter the value but what I need is to pass the value of a combobox in a form. I tried to use:

but it is ignored, interpreted as the value to be filtered.

From id In SelectIDs()
Where elm.ID = id
Console.WriteLine(qry.Count)
End Sub
I have a listview populated from a database (im a bit of a novice with programming) and i want to be able to type a surname into a textbox and search the listview for that person. I can easily populate textboxes from searching the database but am unsure how to "filter" the listview so if i type "jones" into the surname box it only displays the people in the listview who have the surname jones.
