When trying to create a new data source to a sql database (database up and running with no problems) I get the following error message when testing the database connection

Data-->Add New Data Source-->Database-->New Connection
In the dialog which pops up (name: Add Connection) I set:

I have installed all of the patches and Hotfixes that I can find and truth be told, this is so enigmic that i dont know where to go to.I have been working on a project for a year and just recently I went to add a database (data source) and the Tab was gone. I thought I did something wrond so i went to Data -> Data Source and nothing happens. whats funny is that I cannot do what I want and add the datasource.
I also have VS 2005 installed (which I am forced to use) and here I have no problem.
Can anyone or does anyone have a simular problem and a resolution??I really would love to use all that is available in VS08 and not having to use a much older version...
I have an Access database that is updated directly in Access. I'm trying to write a program to 'monitor' the database, and have a DataGridView control showing the contents. When the program is first started, it shows the current data in the DB fine, however, I've been unable to get it to refresh with any updated data from the mdb file. I have a timer running on 5 second intervals, and if i clear the dataset, the DataGridView refreshes to empty.

I refreshed my data sources to include additional items from the SQL Server databases and it appears that my entire data source from my VB.NET project disappeared.I am using Entity Framework. I may have clicked on something wrong, not quite sure. Unfortunately I can't recreate the Data Source without creating a new Entity and Data Model.I can delete the entry in the App.Config file and recreated it, however things aren't quite right.Is there a way that I can recreate my Data Source from the entry that is in my App.Config file...since that appears to have remained intact.BTW, I can go to my Data Model and successfully refresh from there, however my project isn't connecting to the database so I have quite a number of errors until I can get reconnected.

Cases is the table, OfferDate a field of the table wich is DateTime type.
When I use Between operator I get the following error :The expression contains unsupported operator 'Between'.

The vendorUpdate sub calls two .Update's on my SQL Data Adapter.Only the first one is getting saved._vendortable gets saved - changes to _vendorcapabilitiestable does not.Those two DATATABLES are getting created by

_vendorcapabilitiestable = _vendorSet.Tables(1)
To add just a tad complexity to all this I'm making changes to _vendorcapabilitiestable through a filtered binding source in the UI.

[code]I want users to be able to click on the checkbox in field4 and add all of the data plus the word Holiday to my database when they click on the box in that field, but right now it's not allowing me to click on the checkbox, can someone please assist? Also, I did have this working for that field but it would only allow me to add the first line of data, what in my code would not allow for the additional lines to not add their data as well?

All of the instrctions I have tri9ed seem to be written for someone who already knows the answers. Here's my problem.I wrote a program using Access, with one table and five queries and it works fine. Using that program as a baseI created an SQL Server database within Visual basic. Naturally I changed my code to reflect SQL rather then OLEDB.When I try to run the program I get an error message telling me that the database is not registered. When I use the SQL Server Management Studio Expres, it shows my database by give a big message that the database is not registered.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to connect a VB application (2010) to an MS Access DB by adding a data source from the data menu but I receive this error message "The connection you selected uses a local data file that is not in the current project.Would you like to copy the file to your project and modify the connection ?
If you copy the data file to your project, it will be copied to the project's output directory each time you run the application" and the options are (yes , No , Help)
If I choose Yes I will not be able to make the application 'device independent ' since it will not be copied under the bin , and if I choose No , changes won't be applied to the DB

I have defined a .NET 4.0 WPF Application project with a simple class that looks like this:

The question is: Why didn't this work? What will work instead? If I put bindings in a DataTemplate, it works. Blend, with its sample data stuff, implied that this should work, but it doesn't.
I have 5 combo boxes that need to show the same list of items that come from a single dataset table. I have managed to bind the datatable to the combo boxes no problem at all.. but when I run the application and select an item from one of the combo boxes all the others change to the item I selected. After some research I believe that this problem is something to do with using the one datasource so I have tried assigning the dataset datatable to 2 different variables and used them as datasources for 2 of the comboboxes but the same still happens.
A work around to this I can see is to call the same methods and SQL select statements 5 times over to get individual datasources for each combo box but this doing that sounds crazy to me. how I can get around this easily? Code snippet below shows 2 combox boxes and their datasources. I'm using VS2005, .Net 2

This box shows one column of a table and allows me to select one item.Next, I have an ordinary text LABEL that I need to put text from another column of the item selected above.I tried to set the data binding field of the label, but this grabs only the first row or data and shows the selected column. That is nice, but I can not figure out how to update the selected selected ROW when the combo box item is changed.In this case the combo box lists a bunch of inventory parts. When I select a specific part, I need the change the text in a label to show the manufacturer. (like a sub-form). This same behavior will be used in several other places, but the relationships can cascade.

I would like to know the best, or standard, way to accomplish real-time client updates in a small multi-user application using an access data table as a data source.Specifically, this application will be used by 3-4 people. It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I am using this method successfully now to check for changes to a text file in another application, and I know how to implement it?
I recently switched to V.Studio 2008 and using VB. I can not find in the data toolbox the connection and data adapters. Should I do something else to make this appear so I can drag them in my form.
View 2 RepliesI have a bit of code that reaches out and grabs a series of rows from SQL Server DB. I perform an inner join to get some related table data. In the process I get returned the user id of the creator of the data. I then want to pass this into a query to get back a full name. I am having no luck figuring out how to do just that. If I use the data visualizer I can see the name I am after, I cannot figure out the call to extract it
