Data-->Add New Data Source-->Database-->New Connection
In the dialog which pops up (name: Add Connection) I set:

When trying to create a new data source to a sql database (database up and running with no problems) I get the following error message when testing the database connection

I know that when installing a VB .NET program , it asks to connect and download it , if the PC does not have it already . The problem is that some people have a very slow connection speed or don't even have any connection . Therefore it would be useful to have that installation kit in order to supply it along with program itself .
View 5 RepliesI am using the Microsoft ReportViewer 2005 in one of my VB.NET apps and a couple of users are having image display problems (red X) on the reports. They have the correct version of the WinForms DLL on their system and the app does verify that the image file exists before passing the location to the ReportViewer. This problem was reported on XP and Vista.No other users have reported this problem and it is not something that I can reproduce, so I am stumped.This is a sample file path that is passed to the ReportViewer,

Then I want to add the same code to every picturebox. Now it creates the picturebox and moves it to the next spot and doesn't create a second. I am using this code if its helpfull:

On SqlDataSource_Insert, I'm grabbing the users unique MemberID and adding to the db. Adding the MemberID works great. I also want to add a unique EventID for the event they are submitting, but the code that I'm using below just inserts a guid with all zeros.

I have a report viewer that i would like to display different data in depending on the report button that the user clicks. The data is stored in access databases. I am able to retreive the data and display the initial report but i have not been able to change the report/data that is being displayed.

Part of my project requires me to capture data, for example, email address, from certain rows/columns of a datagridview(form2.vb) and displays them in a textbox on another windows form(form1.vb) with a click of a button(Add Contact button). I am creating a VB 2008 change calculator as an assignment. The program is to use the amount paid - the amount due to calculate the total.(this is working fine). After that, it is to break that amount down into dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. The problem I am having is that sometimes the quantity of pennies, nickels or dimes will be a negative number. For example $2.99 = 3 Dollars and -1 Pennies.

View 6 RepliesI am creating a reporting app that pulls information off of a Sql database and populates the data in a datagridview control (DVG). I am using tab pages (Tabcontrol), and I have about 10 tabs with within the control. What I have done is created a dynamic control that will populate in each tab page once the tab is selected. I am using a split container and in my split container.panel 1 is where all my buttons and search functionality will be. In my split container.panel2 to is where the main DGV control will be. I have got this to function properly, however now I am unable to add anything to my split container.panel1. I would like to add diffrent labels and buttons in the panel1 one without putting another panel on top of the split container.panel1, and also if i do this when I resize my container the panel will just sit there. I am using the selected index changed event to get my split container to show in each of the diffrent tabs

View 3 RepliesI refreshed my data sources to include additional items from the SQL Server databases and it appears that my entire data source from my VB.NET project disappeared.I am using Entity Framework. I may have clicked on something wrong, not quite sure. Unfortunately I can't recreate the Data Source without creating a new Entity and Data Model.I can delete the entry in the App.Config file and recreated it, however things aren't quite right.Is there a way that I can recreate my Data Source from the entry that is in my App.Config file...since that appears to have remained intact.BTW, I can go to my Data Model and successfully refresh from there, however my project isn't connecting to the database so I have quite a number of errors until I can get reconnected.

- Then the user can login with that information

I am building a VB 2008 Express Edition application.I have built a database (with a single table) using SQL Server Compact 3.5 and have connected it to the project. I am able to view and edit the data using a DataGridView on a second form (tutorial made this very easy). I need to work with the data in the table within the application. how to easily load the entire table into an array or even read the table a row or cell at a time so that I can make all of the data available for manipulation within the application (the tutorials only seem to show how to display the data).

It looks like MS have removed support for nested Business Objects in their Report Viewer 2010 companant. We would like to upgrade our web app to make use of the new features, but need to maintain backwards compat for loads of legacy reports.1: We cant put anything in the GAC as we are on a hosted shared web server.2: We are in VB so dont seem to be able to use Aliases (i think a c# feature), so we cannot add the references in VS at all or we get a namespace conflict or reference already exists error.3: The report web componant dll is itself dependant on two other dlls that are also new (e.g. common.dll and processing.dll)4: The report compnant has to run in the main app domain at the moment using ExecuteReportInCurrentAppDomain) as when it accesses the business objects, they check security roles etc and this did not seem to work if the report viewer ran in a different app domain. This can probably be worked around.
