On SqlDataSource_Insert, I'm grabbing the users unique MemberID and adding to the db. Adding the MemberID works great. I also want to add a unique EventID for the event they are submitting, but the code that I'm using below just inserts a guid with all zeros.

I need to explicitly load my data source variables and then call the insert method associated with the data source. The sample VB .net code is listed below. So is it sufficient for me to just call the Insert() method when I am ready to insert my values? Or do I need to create an insert event? You see if I look at the properties window for the data source, there is a lightning bolt icon that will generate events for the data source such as Insert,Inserting,Disposing,Init,Load etc.

I am currently creating a windows form app with a database.The database hosts links that the user can customize.When I go to publish the file, if user A changes the Link to their liking user B also see's the changes and will cause a clash if user B does not need the link that user A has put it.

Whenever a row is selected in my GridView, I want to take the ID field of my gridview's dataset and form a unique URL with it (use a ?id=1234 parameter). In the Page_Load event I have the following code:

I am creating files and then allowing the User to browse through the files via a ComboBox. I decided to name each file the current date. In order to create multiple reports each time the application is ran, each report needs a unique name.
The idea is that if they run a report once a day they'll have a unique report each day. But, then I realized that it is feasible that User could run a report more than once a day. So, I decided to create an integer and increment it each time the report has been ran. Then append the file name with that integer. So, report one of that day would show something like this:
12-22-2009_1 and so on.And this works just fine. But, if the user decides to close the app and then run the report later that day, the variable has been reset and no longer works as needed.I'm using a StreamWriter to create the file.

View 18 RepliesI refreshed my data sources to include additional items from the SQL Server databases and it appears that my entire data source from my VB.NET project disappeared.I am using Entity Framework. I may have clicked on something wrong, not quite sure. Unfortunately I can't recreate the Data Source without creating a new Entity and Data Model.I can delete the entry in the App.Config file and recreated it, however things aren't quite right.Is there a way that I can recreate my Data Source from the entry that is in my App.Config file...since that appears to have remained intact.BTW, I can go to my Data Model and successfully refresh from there, however my project isn't connecting to the database so I have quite a number of errors until I can get reconnected.

I am using VB .Net to access the eBay API and store all completed orders in a database. This database is then fed into a proprietary shipping system, which can not handle an order number larger than 20 characters. eBay returns an order number like so 230407279314-680141236013 which is too long. The order number is always 12 numbers a hyphen and 12 more numbers. What I need to do, is turn this (the result can be alpha numerical) into a shorter, unique order key to store in my database alongside the true orderId (so that this can be referenced by the shipping software instead of the actual order number). The reason for the 20 character limit is the barcode algorithm used. Is there any way to achieve this in VB .Net 2010? This number can be anything unique, so long as it does not exist already (even a good uniqueid function would work, but I would have to query the database to make sure it isn't taken)

My boss has asked me to set up DotNetNuke's Survey Module and make a few custom changes to it for a client. But I'm having trouble just getting the bare-bones code to run properly!Downloaded both the source & install folders from [URL] Created a new VB Web Application Project Took out all the default pages Copied the Survey source code into the VB Web Application Project in exactly the same structure Made a batch script that creates an installation folder identical to DNN's install folder (double-checked by running a folder-diff on it, and all files/folders were identical) Zipped up my installation folder using 7-zip The source code compiles perfectly. But even though the files/folders are identical, DNN's zipped package will work properly on my DNN site, and my own zipped package will fail with this famous error message:

I am INSERTING into 2 different tables with 2 different buttons (One after the other by clicking each button). I have a form with 1 button directly on it to INSERT into tblCustomers from a field that is directly on the form as well. I then have a TabControl with another button with other fields (5 to be exact).
After I add data to the data base by filling out the field on the form and then by first clicking the add button located directly on the form and then add data to the fields directly on the TabControl the data will not INSERT itself into the tables in the data base for the 2nd table. Only the first table get data in it and not the one related to the TabControl.
BUT if i add data in the TabControl and then click the button on the TabControl it adds data into to the 2nd table. Is there a way to refresh my program so that it will accept both the "forms data" and the "TabControl data"?

Unique constraint - these columns currently doesn't have unique values..?? I have created Unique Constraint with 3 columns. My code works perfectly but once - two users @ same time entered same data and somehow it saved in DB; after that incident. This UniqueConstraint gives me error - These columns currently doesn't have unique values. How can I check if user enters this kind of entry or how can I restrict the Entry?

When I double click on a form control while in the design view in a Web Application project within Visual Studio 2010, say a 'button' or a 'submit' for example, it inserts a javascript function into my .aspx file. I understand that the Event Source cannot be found in the log I am writting to (Application) and the application is attempting to create the Event Source but before it can be registered all Logs need to be reviewed to make sure the Event Source isn't already in use.
