Creating A Reporting App That Pulls Information Off Of A Sql Database And Populates The Data In A Datagridview Control (DVG)?

I am creating a reporting app that pulls information off of a Sql database and populates the data in a datagridview control (DVG). I am using tab pages (Tabcontrol), and I have about 10 tabs with within the control. What I have done is created a dynamic control that will populate in each tab page once the tab is selected. I am using a split container and in my split container.panel 1 is where all my buttons and search functionality will be. In my split container.panel2 to is where the main DGV control will be. I have got this to function properly, however now I am unable to add anything to my split container.panel1. I would like to add diffrent labels and buttons in the panel1 one without putting another panel on top of the split container.panel1, and also if i do this when I resize my container the panel will just sit there. I am using the selected index changed event to get my split container to show in each of the diffrent tabs

I have Visual Studio 2010 and wish to create something which will store assets and serial numbers. I have an access datatbase which is where all of the data is currently stored however I wanted to make it easy for people to add/remove and edit assets by using a GUI which pulls data to a from the database. What is the best way for me to go about doing this and where should I start?
I am building a program using VS 2010.It needs to be a set of forms that allows a manager to log in so that data entry people can enter in data based on another form.I also need to create a hot key set up that pulls up another form so that a supervisor can pull up the information that employees have entered.I have my solution file that I can put up for a download if needs be to see what I'm talking about. I have a class that pulls the ID3 information from an MP3 file. This information is at the very end of the file in plain ASCII. The original author is using FileGet to retrieve just the last 127 characters of each mp3 file. The issue is that this information is put into strings declared like this...

This part all works fine. But I'm trying to code a property that returns a string like this...
return strTitle & " - " & strArtist
But for some odd reason it is being very strict about the length of the returned string. It usually just returns the strTitle, and not the " - " or strArtist, and if I switch the positions, it will just return strArtist. So obviously both Strings have information in them.
I'm an intermediate programmer, but just breaking into VB.NET. I'm not sure what the New String(" ",30) part does, but it is definitely interfering with the string concatenation that I'm trying to return. Anyone ever had a similar issue?
I've tried String.Copy, String.Concat, etc. I've also tried doing ReadtoEnd(), but it takes forever for just 10 mp3 files, so I can't imagine how long it would take with a whole library. The only thing that slightly works is if I do... return strTitle.SubString(0,5) & " - " & strArtist.SubString(0,5)
But like I said, coincidentally it will only return around 30 characters.
I am creating a small admin reporting tool that gathers certain information on some PCs. Unfortuantly the user that is running the tool doesnt have access and I cant give access to those particular machines. What I have done is created a user on these machines that can get this information.I would like to then have the reporting tool run certain parts of the code as this user so the information can be obtained, without any intervention from the user running the tool. Can I hardcode this user into the code so that it runs the code as the user?

I have a 'DataGrid' usercontrol on my simple little form and I press a button that opens a text file and populates the DataGrid like so,

Where A, B, and C are my column headers.
I also have a 'ListBox' on the form. What I would like to do is, allow the user to select one, two, or three rows (or all) in the datagrid, and press a button that will move the data from selected rows into my listbox (each row its own string in the list box).
I can populate the datagrib easy enough, but don't know how to access the cell data individually?

I have an application I am creating that displays pump information based on customers in a database. I am using VB2008 .NET3.5.I have a combobox that has a selection for a unit of measure. What I want to happen is when that is changes the labels that have a unit of measure change to reflect the change. There are 15 labels total that need to be changed and all there names are the only ones in the project that start with a X if that helps at all.
I would like to avoid creating a bunch of labels and changing the visible property and just change the text value of each one. I have just started learning VB.NET
I have this rather stupid litle excel issue which somehow just doesn't go away by itself;I'm creating a excel chart from three rows of information data. Each row has a header, so far so good. The first row exixt of calender data and I planned it to use them as my x-axis labeling. But somehow excel uses them as variables and changes them in to a third bar. I'm trying to write some code which parses data and then populates a listbox. I'm using the IPWorks IPPort component which basically does the reading of port 30003. The ipport1_OnDataIn event is where all the action is. I parse the data, which works great.. however when I try and do something simple such as add text to a listbox, I get the dreaded error "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'lstListBox1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on".I've googled the error and tried copy and pasting some workarounds but nothing seems to fix the issue.
If anyone can offer help, it would be greatly appreciated. If you could possibly show the code already implemented into mine, it would be even better so I can see how it works. It would make more sense to me. My code is below. The part i'm trying to get working is the lstlistbox1.items.add("Test") in Case "2". This is to just get it working.. I�m trying to make a simple database editor using DataGridView.I have one DataGridView containing a lot of data on products and some parameters on how they should be tested. Some of these parameters, for example "Test method", is just a number. But if I look in the table for Test Methods that number has lots of other parameters. So if I select a "Test Method" Cell and click a button that table opens in a new form with just that "Test Method" (if I for example have selected a cell with the number 1, Test Method 1 will be shown in the new form). So far everything I�ve said works. I can even change values and update it to database in the first "Products" table. So here is the problem The DataGridView that shows the products is bound to a table and always shows the same thing which makes it easy to change and update using the following code

This will change later when I add a search function. Then this will need the same modification aswell. The DataGridView thats shows the other parameters can�t be updated using just this code cause I get an error that says
"InvalidOperationException" "Update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows."
It seems like the problem is that because I change the data under run its not really bound to the database. And I haven�t found any complete solution to this. I have found some similiar problems and it seems I need to update each row using the command

i have a datagridview which has a datasource of a SQL database. In this database i have a column which has a boolean value, and in my form, it is used to specify whether a checkbox is ticked or not.
What i need my program to do is color the cells of the datagridview based on if the checkbox is ticked or not for the particular rows which have it ticked in the database. Here is what i have, but it doesnt work:

I have an app written in vb2005 that allows users to search a sql database for a store name. Once a store is selected, it then presents the user with 12 different tabs, each with a DataGridView showing various bits of info about the store. It's a large and convoluted database, so I'm using stored proceedures to pull the data for each tab. Here's a sample of one of the subs that populates the tabs.[code...]
Now, this works just fine to populate the grids on the tabs, and the same code is copied into each of the subs that fill the grids (changing the stored proc, parameter and grid names, of course). The problem I'm having is how to move changes made to the data in the grid back into the database.
I have stored procs that do this (and the procs do work), I just can't seem to figure out how to trigger the stored proc when the user makes a change.
If it matters, there is only a grid on each tab, I did not use a binding source as I am trying to keep an abstraction layer between the data and the app. I did create a dataset, which is how I gain access to the stored procs, but I left the grids unbound and (as seen in my code) bind them at run time.
How do I put a large amount of data (we are talking of a datatable with probably 50 columns and maybe 500 rows) from the access database that is bound to a datagridview in my program into textboxes depending on the row of the datagridview row I am clicking on.
What I have in the access database is countries and companies that are attached to several different dates to each company. these dates are supposed to be filled into the textboxes automatically when I click on the company row in the datagridview and also when i fill in a date in the textboxes it is to be written to the access database when I save the update.
