I have Visual Studio 2010 and wish to create something which will store assets and serial numbers. I have an access datatbase which is where all of the data is currently stored however I wanted to make it easy for people to add/remove and edit assets by using a GUI which pulls data to a from the database. What is the best way for me to go about doing this and where should I start?

View 4 RepliesI am creating a reporting app that pulls information off of a Sql database and populates the data in a datagridview control (DVG). I am using tab pages (Tabcontrol), and I have about 10 tabs with within the control. What I have done is created a dynamic control that will populate in each tab page once the tab is selected. I am using a split container and in my split container.panel 1 is where all my buttons and search functionality will be. In my split container.panel2 to is where the main DGV control will be. I have got this to function properly, however now I am unable to add anything to my split container.panel1. I would like to add diffrent labels and buttons in the panel1 one without putting another panel on top of the split container.panel1, and also if i do this when I resize my container the panel will just sit there. I am using the selected index changed event to get my split container to show in each of the diffrent tabs

I am a sys admin for a company and our programmer left several months ago. a program they wrote is now failing and i am struggling to work out why. the program basically pulls data from a csv file into a readable form, written in visual basic. the application works on a couple of machines but not on a couple of others. i have matched up .Net framework versions, MS Primary Interop Assembly versions, still no joy. As the app works on some pc's i am wondering what other differences could cause this?

I have a form that adds new contacts. New contacts are added by pressing an appropriate button and they appear as an entry in the list on the form. I try now to add an edit button that will edit existing entries.User will select a given entry on the list and press edit button and will be presented with an appropriate form (AddContFrm).Right now it simply adds another entry with the same title. I have two text files. The fields in each text file are separated by a space (" "). Some of the fields in column 1 of file 1 match the fields in column 1 of file 2. However the third column in file 2 is a numeric field. What I wish to do is check every field in file1 against the field in file 2, and if the number is 1 then remove the row from file 2, if the number is > 1, then subtract one from it.

So I'm working on a custom Class that contains a basic, underlying System.Byte that I can play with; and I want to give it a Property called Byte so the underlying value can be returned or set. The problem is that Byte is a Visual Basic Keyword, so when I try to name a Property 'Byte' Visual Studio starts throwing Intellisense errors at me.

The original author is using FileGet to retrieve just the last 127 characters of each mp3 file. The issue is that this information is put into strings declared like this...

This part all works fine. But I'm trying to code a property that returns a string like this...
return strTitle & " - " & strArtist
But for some odd reason it is being very strict about the length of the returned string. It usually just returns the strTitle, and not the " - " or strArtist, and if I switch the positions, it will just return strArtist. So obviously both Strings have information in them.
I'm an intermediate programmer, but just breaking into VB.NET. I'm not sure what the New String(" ",30) part does, but it is definitely interfering with the string concatenation that I'm trying to return. Anyone ever had a similar issue?
I've tried String.Copy, String.Concat, etc. I've also tried doing ReadtoEnd(), but it takes forever for just 10 mp3 files, so I can't imagine how long it would take with a whole library. The only thing that slightly works is if I do... return strTitle.SubString(0,5) & " - " & strArtist.SubString(0,5)
But like I said, coincidentally it will only return around 30 characters.
I have one table here with a list of UserIDs, Users, and ClientCodes.Each user can be assigned a client code to view that client's data else where.Right now I have to change it for everyone via SQL Server and actually going into the table manually, but I'm trying to make a simple little program that will let the user change it themselves.All I need is a textbox that pulls the user based on a certain UserID from the table, and a drop down list that will not only show the current ClientCode they're set to, but allow me to change it and save that change to the table in the database.What's the best way to go about this? I tried using the wizards but I guess that's not the best way to go about it.I have it displaying the correct user and their current ClientCode but that's about it.

Recently I've created a window database program(Tools Inventory); everything works fine except for the following two :
1. It doesn't accept modifications to the existing datas in the column & rows. (Error : Updates require a ValidCommand......)
2. Remove button does not delete the data in the database. It only works in the runtime.
