DB/Reporting :: Inserting Link Into The Access Database 2005?
Feb 21, 2008
I am trying my hands on VB.net and is trying out a small application which includes a survey form. The form contains radio buttons and when the respondent clicks on a radiobutton, digit '1' should be placed into the relevant field of the database.I have established a dataset and tried doing it but not sure how to do it because the book (How to program Visual Basic.Net by Dietel) does not teach us that

I'm building an aplication with an MS Access database behind the scene. In many of my forms I'm gonna use DataGridViews to show data from the database, not an entire table but data based on manually built queries. So, I have few questions without answers, by now. Solutions or 1. I haven't decided how will I bring the database into the project: from the menu -> Add New Data Source, or within the code, at runtime. I still don't know which one's best or why.2. How exactly can I execute any SQL query (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE etc) on my Access database from my aplication?

I am asked to write a front end program in VB 2005 (that will run in client computers which running on Win XP) to access an existing MySQL database running in Linux. It is not my preferred choice, but the user have the database and server working just as he wants it, and do not wish to change, at the same time I do not wish to change programming language. Is that even possible? Can we actually write VB 2005 programs that will run in client computers complete with NET framework 2.0 to access a Linux operating database?

I'm working on a program for my company and have hit a wall in my knowledge of Visual Basic since it has been a few years since I've worked in it.I don't know how to insert a row into an access database. I've tried a bunch of different things I found on other forums and the like, but none of them worked. Right now i'm just using a Connection Object with ExecuteNonQuery() and it doesn't return any errors but it also does not add anything to the database.I've posted my code below.
Public Class PunchForm
Private Sub cin_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cin.Click

I am trying to enter a record into an Access database via visual basic programatically.I had this working fine when I had the datagrid bound to the database but now I have decided to do it all at runtime to save on resources at runtime. When I unbound everything and tried running it with my existing code
Try
ds.Tables(
"tblProduction").Rows.Add(row)
[code]....
This is the line of code that has to have another 30 entries in it.

I have a deployed desktop application which uses an Access Database. I have a need to update the databases which are in the field by adding a few extra fields to some tables to support new functionality. Thedatabases is password protected.
The process I am following is to ship a new empty database which contains the new fields (these fields are set to not require entry, accept nulls and they are not indexed) and then add functionality to the application which selects the data from each table in the current deployed DB and inserts it into the same table new template database. Then I kill the original db, rename the new template to be the file used by the application.
I am using OLEDB to communicate with the database and have tried using an 'INSERT INTO' but cannot get the syntax right - I used this example[URL]..but it throws and invalid argument when I try to supply a database password

For some reason my code is executing the INSERT query twice and putting duplicate records in my table. If I put a primary key on one of the fields I get a runtime error and it complains about the fact it can't add the record twice. The part of the code that INSERTs is near the bottom, bolded and italicized. I put the entire IF statement of code incase my logic is wrong. This is what's being executed when a user clicks a button

I have managed to successfully create a logon page and have created a form to insert data into one of my tables using text boxes and a "Save" button, however the first field in the table is the named "CustomerID" and is set to Autonumber, this is the primary key of the table. If I enter a record into the table in Access it automatically enters the next valid ID however when I can't seem to make this happen when entering data via my VB form!

I want to move my programs and the database to another computer and hard-disks. It looks to me as though I nearly have to re-create the controls and rewrite some of the code to make it so the programs still work after the move. At least with ODBC all I would change was the DSN definitions external to the programs. Is there an easy way to move or rename a database without loads of work?

How to link my app to an Access database - there seems to be a number of approaches. I can add in my database via the Data Sources tab. Fine if I want to bind controls and view/edit data. But is this the best approach for queries that return an answer that is a different shape to the original table? Alternatively I can connect to the database directly (connection string, etc) and run sql queries. What are advantages/disadvantages of each approach? In terms of flexibility, is the second approach best? Also, does the second approach require the database to be added via the Data Sources tab?

I would like to know how I can link up my listbox to the access database. For example: I have a textbox where I enter a code and a button that says enter and the code has an item that corresponds to it and that item must appear in the listbox as well as any other items that I need to put in the listbox.
