Dec 19, 2009Whats a DLL's "form loading" event? For example, if one of my apps used this DLL, it would execute the code inside the DLL as soon as the EXE loads.

Cancel A Form Loading In Its Load Event?
Oct 18, 2010what's the best way to stop a form from displaying in its Load event.I initialise a form using the following code:
Dim MyForm as new MyCustomForm
In the Load event of MyCustomForm, I ask the user to select a folder and use that to populate a listbox on the form.folder.If the user presses Cancel instead of selecting a folder, I don't want to display the form. Right now, I just call Me.Close in the Load event, but that still causes the form to briefly appear and disappear in the background. Also do I need to call Me.Dispose?
Me.Hide() Method In Form Loading Event
Mar 18, 2011Why do Me.Hide() And me.visible do nothing under form loading event? Now the obvious answer to me was because how could you call a form to hide if it has not loaded. Make's sense to me. So i checked the documentation to see what options i had. If the form isn't loaded when the Hide method is invoked, the Hide method loads the form but doesn't display it. Interesting. So from what i gather here me.hide should still hide the form. Or have i misinterpreted the documentation? Because the form does still display. Neither also work under Public Sub New().
The only solution i found was under sub new was to change the forms opacity to nothing. Which works fine. But after reading the documentation on Opacity i am still left with another question regarding "Visible vs Hide Vs Opacity" Calling me.hide makes the forms visible property false, Calling opacity set to Nothing makes the form in visible. Both these methods do the required task but does one take up more memory or should be favored over the other? Just because some thing work's i have learned it is not always necessarily the best way to do something.

Jan 7, 2009As it stands, when I click a button to load the data the application lags and looks as though it has locked up although it has not. There are a lot (10,000) of records to load in some cases.
I thought I could just change my status strip text to dispay "Loading database" while it's loading.
So, I raise an event (dbloading) in the "load db" button.click event before calling the procedure to load the data. When that event is raised, I change the status strip text.... but it does not work.

I have looked into SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout, but either I don't understand what they are doing, or I am not using them correctly, because they don't seem to have any effect. Someone told me that there used to be a way to turn off paint events in VB 6. Does this still exist in .NET?

ADO .NET Equivalent Event To MS ACCESS Form's OnCurrent Event
May 11, 2009I just want to know if there any equivalent event (ADO. NET VS 2008) event as in MS ACCESS Form's OnCurrent Event.
The reason is I like to make some calculations based on some data bound controls with current datarow data when user clicked a row in DataGridView (or by using bindingNavigator). I've tried with DatagridView's RowEnter event. But some Data bound controls are not yet reflect the data of current datarow when that evet was fired.
In MSDN Help File: It says "RowEnter Event: Occurs when a row receives input focus but before it becomes the current row. "

I've tried putting MyBase.ShowDialog() and .Show() and .9000+ other things The only benefit I've got out of using a seperate thread to load from the databse is i can see the screen right away (as oppose to it being a transparent box until it loads) but i cannot move it around or minimize itis there any way to make it Movable while it loads?

Dec 3, 2002Does anyone know of anyway that it would be possible to speed up the process of loading forms.With VB6, forms (simple ones) was extremely fast but with VB.net, the initial loading of a form (even the simplest one) takes very long. Although it gets better once it's loaded once and the reloaded the next time (almost instanttaneous), but the first time loading gives a bad impression to any user that .net is actually much slower.

Its not working. Form1 gets closed but form2 is not showing up.
When I use the following code
me.hide
form2.show, its working.
But hide will not unload form1 and it will still occupy memory.

Goal: Hinder user from using shortcut keys by disabling the keys at initialization then enabling it after all objects are good to go.
Another Situation is:A form with a gridview and a button.I got a hotkey that when press, handles a gridview getfocus event.
The problem is that the gridview is still making its instance and when press the hotkey, it activates the getfocus property of that gridview(which is still creating its instance).
