Dataset With Bridge Table Relationship?
Sep 17, 2009I have a many to many relationship between 2 tables so therefore I have created a bridge table, to produce a one to many relationship. how to I code this, so it shows in a datagrid?

Cannot Find Relationship In Dataset
Mar 14, 2011I have made a small "front-end" application for an Access databasefile.
I set up 3 tables with relations in Access, and added the database as a datasource in my project. I have done no database programming, and the app has worked nicely for about 2 years. It's a simple master-detail form with 2 datagridviews dragged from the datasource window.
Yesterday I opened the project to add a new form. The form is just a "setttings form" with no database activities.
When I press F5 - the main form do not start, and I get the error message "DataMember property '{0}' cannot be found on the DataSource." - where the property name is the name of one of the 2 relationships in the datasource.

Jun 17, 2009I'm new to both SQL Server Express and VB2008 Express or any other kind of language for that matter..I'm trying to create a form using a typed dataset created using the Data Source Configuration Wizard that contains two main tables and a third that creates a many to many relationship between the first two.Is this possible as when I examine the dataset in the Data Sources window, the middle table shows up as a related table under each of the main tables but neither shows a third related table.How can I show synced data from all three tables on my form. Is this possible using the Configuration Wizard or does it have to be done in code?

VS 2008 DataGridView - DataSet With 2 Tables And Relationship
Jul 2, 2010I'm going to describe this as simple as possible, and it a typical setup for a database...
I have 1 DataSet, 2 DataGridViews (DGV), and 2 BindingSources (BS).
The DataSet has 2 tables and 1 Relationship (FK).
Table 1 is a employee table
Table 2 is timeclock data.
Both tables contain a column: EmployeeId
FK is linked to EmployeeId of both tables.
DGV1 has it's datasource=BS1
BS1 has it's datasource=DataSet and it's DataMember=Table 1.
Thus DGV1 shows Table 1.
DGV2 has it's datasource=BS2
BS2 has it's datasource=BS1 and it's DataMember=FK
Thus DGV2 shows Table 2 filtered by what's selected in DGV1.
Now when I use the mouse or keyboard to select a cell in DGV1, the relationship causes DGV2 to update to only show data from Table 2 where the EmployeeId row equals that from the selection in Table 1. With me so far?
Well all that works great. But what if I need to programmatically select a row in Table 1 to cause Table 2 to update? I've tried everything I can think of, but Table 2 NEVER updates when I attempt to programmatically select a row or cell in Table 1.

Nov 13, 2009I have a project which contains a large number of lookup tables, and I have all of these lookup tables represented in a single typed DataSet, which contains TableAdapters for each lookup. I've designed an editor for these lookup tables, which should allow editing of one of these at a time. My front-end is written in VB and WinForms, the back-end is a SOAP web service; I can successfully pass the changes to the DataSet back to the web service, but can't find a way to use a TableAdapter to update the single table that has been changed.
What I'm trying to do is instantiate the appropriate TableAdapter for the updated DataTable by sending the name of the table back to the web service along with the DataSet, then referring to the TableAdapter with a dynamic name. The normal way to instantiate a TableAdapter is this:
Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters.tlkpMyTableTableAdapter
What I'd like to do is this, but of course it doesn't work:
strTableName = "tlkpMyTable"
Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters(strTableName & "TableAdapter")
Is there any way to achieve this, or am I taking the wrong approach altogether? My other alternative is to write separate code for each table, which I'd prefer to avoid!

May 22, 2011How can I update local dataset with mysql database without making duplicates. Assuming I set some column in mysql as primary key, which has unique string.
adapter.fill will just add duplicates, but adapter.clear before that is not an option.
So I want to update if the key column is the same with mysql data and if there is option for ignore adding new row.

Jul 23, 2010I have some concern about designing Datasets. I was told that it would be good to have a dataset for each table for maintenance purpose. Because frequent change in database tables is expected, having one dataset including every tables would be pain to make the corresponding change in the application.
Q. is it good approach to have a dataset for each table ( I would end up having 30~40 datasets for each db table using Stored procedure) ?
I have a separate project for commonly used datasets. each project include "dataset project" as a reference, and use it by including needed dataset into Forms, classes, etc.
Q. Does this approach makes the whole system to be slower? If I have a set of datasets as a separate project, it would be beneficial, since It will be easier to make a change (I only need to make modification in one place)

Is there any way I can write another .NET app that runs on my dedicated server, accepts an incoming connection from my home PC that sits there. Then any other incoming connection from the outside world can then be connected to my home pc through the app on the dedicated server? If there is a term for this sort of process or program, I do not know what it is.

Apr 24, 2011I want in my bridge program the time between appearance of cards longer. Different suggestions can be found in the forum. I tried "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100)" resulting in the card appearing in half and after the delay the rest. Only the following code does as intended:

I place this just for the code of the next card to be displayed. It is strange that the dim statement should be there. When I place it instead at the beginning of the program the code doesn't function anymore.I can live with that, however, in the forum some contributors write that this code is dangerous as it can slow down the machine considerably..Is that true or and/or only true for older versions of Visual Basic?

Apr 10, 2011I am trying to use a data set to replace some objects i have currently got but wich are getting rather complicated. I have created my self a Data Set, currently simplified but am just learning ATM, I have normalised it as per basic understanding of databases.
3 tables
A Parts Table with 2 columns, Serial Number as the primary key and Data Inspected
A Feature Table with 2 coloumns, Feature Name as the primary key and Nominal
Data Table with Part Serial Number, Feature Name, Actual and a KeyColumn which is self incrementing read only.
Ultimately the Parts Table and Feature Table will have a lot more meta data that I will want to sort/filter. I would like a Data Grid Veiw or equivalent in WPF to show a table of all the data for all the parts, so features along one axis and parts along the other. Ultimately I would like to be able to sort/filter on both axis using different bits of meta data. I am aware of LINQ and DataVeiws, have had a play though not good at either, so far have only managed to get one column of data, so either all the data for one part or all the data for one feature.
I'm also aware of the Entity Framework though have no idea how to use it. So my question is, do I need to extract the table one column at a time? seems a bit inelegant, or is there a query or View I can set up to do this? or am I using completely the wrong tool? I know this might work in a fully fledged database but cant install/assess one on the machines to be used I need to keep it contained to the .net executable. If I need to do it as a loop am I right in assuming LINQ would be a better choice to put in a for loop?

Jan 1, 2010I am using VB.NET 2008 and I want to delete an unused table from the dataset. When I do this I get error messages which seem to originate in the Table Adater Manager on the various forms. The only way I can figure out to correct this is to delete the table from the code after deleting it from the dataset designer. But it says that you shouldn't do this.
