View 1 RepliesI have a datasource linked to a table in a database.When I wnated to display this data on a form, I just dragged the datasource onto the form and it did everything for me, including the code to fill it;
Me.ProjectFileTableAdapter.Fill(Me.ProjectFileDataSet.ProjectFile)
My problem, is that this program will have multiple users, and I don't other users to be able to see each others data. So the problem with the above statement is that it fills the table with ALL the data in the datasource. I have the following query that executes when my form loads. It's the rowsource for my combo box. The query is fine and populates the combo perfect, however, when i click into the combo box I cannot click out of it or even close the form. I have tried taking out the line of code that fills the form via table adapter on load and it works fine (opening the form unbound by the main table). Has anyone run into this before? I have another combo box on the form setup the exact same way and this is not happening. I've experimented with different datatypes etc....

I created a new query in the dataset designer. There are now 2 queries there. The original one and the new one.I also added named parameters in the Where clause of the 2nd query.This is the query in the new one:

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around data access in VB2010. I have properly set up a datagridview, table adapter etc... I have only 3 columns showing (out of 7 that are stored) in my datagridview (dgv for the sake of less typing).i don't show the ID column which is the unique index. It's hidden.what I want to do is have a button on each row (already done that) that, when clicked, deletes the row from the dgv AND the database. I get this error if one of my database field is greater than 120 characters. The DB is set for 150 Char text.
When the form is loading here is the line that errors[code]...

The code works fine with a smaller database, so i was just wondering the problem is that the database is too big and the adapter isn't able to handle such a long query. I was just wondering if anyone knows what kind of limits there are?

To get an id value after a table insert into an Access database you do a SELECT @@IDENTITY. I would like to know if this will work if your INSERT query is a table adapter query? I created an INSERT query for a table in the dataset designer which is working. My concern is that if I make another query with SELECT @@IDENTITY it won't work because table adapters make a new connection each time. Can someone clear me up on this?

I have 1 DataSet, 2 DataGridViews (DGV), and 2 BindingSources (BS).
The DataSet has 2 tables and 1 Relationship (FK).
Table 1 is a employee table
Table 2 is timeclock data.
Both tables contain a column: EmployeeId
FK is linked to EmployeeId of both tables.
DGV1 has it's datasource=BS1
BS1 has it's datasource=DataSet and it's DataMember=Table 1.
Thus DGV1 shows Table 1.
DGV2 has it's datasource=BS2
BS2 has it's datasource=BS1 and it's DataMember=FK
Thus DGV2 shows Table 2 filtered by what's selected in DGV1.
Now when I use the mouse or keyboard to select a cell in DGV1, the relationship causes DGV2 to update to only show data from Table 2 where the EmployeeId row equals that from the selection in Table 1. With me so far?
Well all that works great. But what if I need to programmatically select a row in Table 1 to cause Table 2 to update? I've tried everything I can think of, but Table 2 NEVER updates when I attempt to programmatically select a row or cell in Table 1.
I have a table adapter that I use just to fill a form when it loads. I've added two new columns in the backend and went in through the "DataSources" and added them. They appaear in the XSD designer but for some reason are not filling the form when it loads. I the form is writting to the backend correctly via hand coded SQL.

I have code in vb.net that was created using Visual Studio 2008. It has got queries done via data sets and table adapters. dsStagMyfileDesigner.vb and dsStagMyfile.xsd are the files having all the sql queries. They are code generated by using data table adapters I believe. Editing them might screw the system.
