Declaring A Report Parameter Makes The Whole Function Get Skipped

Aug 24, 2009

If I comment the paramList line, I see the "CreateDetailedReport()" message box, but if I uncomment it, the message box never appears - there are no errors or anything, it simply seems to not run the function. On my development machine it works properly, but this odd behavior is seen on the target machine.

[code...]

Any reason why this would make the line before it not run - even without producing an error,o
crashing, or something?

VS 2008 Way Of Declaring A Parameter In Function And Return A Value?

Apr 26, 2010

I have created my own ListViewItem class, and added some custom properties to it of attributes. What I have at the moment is a tooltip which shows all of those custom properties (about 18 of them).What I want to be able to do is if multiple are selected, to show a tooltip, but if a property (say Title) for all of them is "My Title" it will show that, otherwise if they are different, I would like it to show "VARIES"Is there a way of declaring a parameter in my function and return a value? .net - SSRS Report Called From ReportViewer Control Displays No Data In The Report When Called With A Parameter

Apr 11, 2012

Can you look at my coding and let me know what I'm missing or doing wrong?I have a SSRS report that is called from a ReportViewer control and the ProcessingMode for this control is Remote. The report also has 1 parameter in it's DataSet.In the code I placed a MsgBox to make sure the code is finding the parameter and returning the parameter name. I am trying to stick the value of 10 into the parameter for playerID 10. Data for this player does exist.

I believe I need to add some more code to make this work but I'm not sure what else to add.

When the code executes the report is displayed but no data is shown in the report.

Declaring Variables Within A Sub/function?

Oct 15, 2009

When I am writing a sub or function that does some calculations etc. I often need a loop or a integer variable to count.

An example:

''' <summary>
''' Compare elements with the new data and perform all necessary actions.
''' </summary>

[Code]....

As you can see, variables like timespan, nullCount and seconds are declared within this sub.

My question is, is it better to declare these in the class? I can imagine that would boost performance.

C# - Calling .FindByType Makes VB6 Error Out - Function Or Interface Marked As Restricted

Oct 19, 2010

Possible Duplicate: Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.

Basically, im just searchign for uPnP devices using the uPNPDeviceFinder classes .FindByType method, .FindByUDN works, but FindByType gives an error:VB6 gives a compile error when I attempt to call the method:

Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.

why i am getting it. I am referencing and using the upnp.dll file as found in yoru system32 directory - when i reference and use this in VS2010 (say, vb.net) it all works and no issues are found, but in VB6, i get the error above.

What's Advantage Of Declaring A Function As 'Shared'

What's the advantage of declaring a function as "Shared"? I've noticed that it doesn't require you to instantiate an object to use the method when it declared as "Shared". Is that the only upside?

Ado.net - Execute A Stored Function In Oracle Or Sql - Adding The Parameter Values Of The Function

Dec 13, 2011

I need to execute a stored function in oracle or sql through vb.net. I created a command object. Depending on the database type(oracle or SQL) i am preparing the Command text as Select functionName(?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?) from dual; (For Oracle) Adding the parameter values of the function. Now performing the ExecuteScalar which is not working saying invalid parameter. This works with ODBC connection string. But ODBC doesn't with 64bit. My Requirement: Code should execute a user defined stored procedure by taking the values at runtime.

Gained By Using The Function Itself To Hold The Return Value Instead Of Declaring A Local Variable?

Oct 28, 2010

What's best practice (in VB.Net):

Function GetSomething() as String
GetSomething = "Here's your string"
End Function
or
Function GetSomething() as String
Dim returnString as String = "Here's your string"
Return returnString
End Function

Obviously, neither of these implementations make any sense, but they're just meant to illustrate my point. Is there anything to be gained by using GetSomething itself to store the return value instead of declaring returnString locally and then returning that (does it avoid having an extra string allocated/instantiated - and if so, are there any performance/memory benefits)?
