Apr 30, 2012i have a created a project that enables the user to choose any access database and presents the different tables on a treeview... after that the user is able to drag and drop fields on to another form and automatically controls (text boxes, combo boxes etc.)are created with their respective data bindings... it also creates a binding navigator.... my problem is that i cannot get to add or delete records from the database using the navigator... when i add and try to save it i get an error "Update requires a valid InsertCommand when passed DataRow Collection with new rows" and i get a simiral error message when i try to delete something (plus it deletes everything from the database not only the record chosen).. here is the code i use for the add and delete

Feb 28, 2011well, i am working on a project using tables by simply dragging and dropping them on a form.
from a single data set, i dragged 9 tables into 9 forms.. the fill method of tableadapter works whenever the form loads
now my problem here is, there's a problem with my binding navigator that the save and delete buttons aren't working..
this is actually my alternative method. since this morning.. i couldn't make my binding navigator work for my tables (i was surprised to see that there's only one working binding navigator from a single dataset, and because of that, i thought i could just use it to work for my 9 tables instead). still it doesn't work.. and i thought of using different forms for different tables so i could get the binding navigators work perfectly..
and yet, it doesn't make any change at all. still there is problems
is there any way to make this work?
how about adding codes into the delete button event in the binding navigator?

is there any working examples of implementing add/update/delete using the binding source?
i have a datagridview that has a bindingsource as its datasource and i am wanting to provide Add/Update/Delete functionality on the grid itself. Each record has a delete button which when clicked will remove the row and then add/edit is performed in the grid itself
the user then clicks a save/commit button that will then perform the nessecary updates on all rows
my initial plan was to have a copy of the data (iList) and then compare this to the contents of the binding source data to confirm whether to add/update or delete the record
also upon clicking the delete button i cant get it to remove the row from the datagridview. it thought i could do something like this...

I dragged the table from the datasource onto the Windows form creating all of the controls, including the binding navigator. I can add records but I cannot update. Apr 16, 2010I've got a datable on my form, it loads the data from the database and displays it just fine but when i add data to it it doesn't save it to the database... I don't know why but the save button on the data navigator is disabled by default but even when i enable it, enter data and click it, it doesn't save the data. (i dont think its the button i just thought it's worth mentioning that the save button is disabled by default when you drag a data table onto a form)

Jun 7, 2012I am trying to understand how the binding navigator buttons are actually working.
I started by creating a table called "Students" in MS Access,
I then "dragged and dropped" that table onto my VB form after importing the data connection.
When I debug, I click the add new (the yellow plus "+") then I type info into my fields (700_Number, First_Name, MI, Last_Name). (700_Number=Primary Key)
After I am finished typing into the four text boxes, I click save. If I end my program then start the debugger again, the record is still there...it goes away only if I change some of the code anywhere in my program.
Also, I am trying to use the record I just put into my database for another part of my program. I use this line of code:
MsgBox(frmAddStudent.DrByrdsTaskListAppDBDataSet.Tables("Students").Rows(0))
This is just to see if what I am trying to put into my database is actually making it there. Every time I run, this message box turns up blank.

Mar 29, 2011On my add button i still have to add codes that disables my navigation buttons and and my search button... and add codes that will enable them in save button... im still new thats why my codes are just simple if, else if, else conditions that just manipulates enable, visible, text, properties..also if i search my data will be search but my textboxes only shows the searched data.. i still have to add button that will only be visible if the program finds a data... and this button function is to remove the filter..rather than disabling some functions i want a messagebox to prompt the user that this functions arent functionable...
Look at my codes... i find it lame... its kinda irritating always just using True and false..

Nov 11, 2011I'm reading data from Excel and processing the file line by line.
If the process succeeds then I need to delete that row from Excel and save it. If it fails, then continue with the next line and so on.
Initially I used OLEDB to read data from Excel, but by using this I cannot delete rows.
I think we can solve this by using COM component.

VS 2008 - Delete And Save Functions
Oct 19, 2010I got a situation where I need to update the details of an order. So there is an order, and there are many products in that order, and the way I am updating that bit at the moment is simply 'delete and save'. But what happens is that it deletes first and them saves products which would be fair enough but if anything in save function goes wrong the order leaves with no products. So how would I know if I will get an error?
