Deployment :: Incorporating Bits Of The Framework

Apr 14, 2009

I have made a very small (only one form and no database operations) but nifty application and I want many people to be able to use it. My question is: As I only need a very small part of the dotnet framework, is there a way to let the compiler (or so) grab only the parts it needs for the .exe/.msi file, so that users don't have to install the entire 3.5 framework just to run my tiny little app?

Calculate The Lower 7 Bits And 7-13 Bits Of Two Hex Numbers?

Apr 8, 2011

I'm trying to figure out how to calculate the lower 7 bits and 7-13 bits of two hex numbers.

Here is some example c code, just need this in vb.net:

serialBytes[2] = 0x64 & 0x7F; // Second byte holds the lower 7 bits of target.
serialBytes[3] = (0x64 >> 7) & 0x7F; // Third data byte holds the bits 7-13 of target

The 0x7F is a constant so the only number that changes based off input is the 0x64.

Incorporating Networked DVR Imagery Into Forms Application

Feb 18, 2012

I'm working on a windows forms application and would like to incorporate a feature that would allow me to pull the video stream from a networked DVR source. I have an existing desktop program that I may be able to use to snoop out some of the protocols used, but I have absolutely no idea where to look for a library or api to actually display the video.

Has anyone successfully done this? (Connected to a remote DVR, played realtime video in their own application)

Asp.net - Incorporating A Knowledge Base / Blog For Q & A On An Engineering Website?

Mar 13, 2012

I have an engineering firm and our website was built using Visual Studio 2010 / asp.net 4.0 / VB. Recently, a client (GM) requested that we have a knowledge base where they can input their questions, and we can answer 'em. Kind of like a FAQ, or a Lessons Learned type of thing. But it'll require that they'll be able to log in and ask their own questions.

For instance: Q: How would I incorporate multiple machine vision systems into a bead detection application?A: You would need to use a software such as PPT and have multiple fixtures in order to assimilate the cameras accordingly.

I'm terrible at databases; I can basically run an SQL query, and that's about it! lol. And I'm not a programmer by trade. Can I do this without a database? Can anyone guide me in the right direction here? I mean, is there something out there that's open-source, or at least something that's easy to implement?

Deployment :: Setup & Deployment - Copy/import 2 Folders And There Sub-files/folders Into S&d Project?

May 7, 2012

Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?

When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?

.net :: Storing 4 Bits From A Byte?

Aug 19, 2010

What is the best way to store 4 bits from a byte in VB.Net? Where best means:Most straightforward method of storage from a Byte type.The easiest to work with while performing bitwise operations.Straightforward conversion of the bits to other types.Storing them in a BitArray via it's constructor reverses the order of the bits. This means that attempting to get the value of the first bit will require looking for that value in the last entry in the BitArray.

Conversion To 64 Bits - PowerPacks?

Jul 10, 2010

I am moving Visual Basic 2010 Express from a 32 bits Windosw 7 machine to a 64 bits Windows 7 machine. My project contains a PowerPacks line. I have installed the PowerPacks (VisualBasicPowerPacks3Setup.exe) on the 64 bits system, and see them in the toolbox. When I try to open the project on the 64 bits machine. however, I get error messages:The designer cannor process the code at line 56:

Me. ShapeContainer1 = New Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.ShapeContainer

The referenced component 'Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.Vs' could not be found

I then thought I would just remove the (purely cosmetic) line on the 32 bits machine, but cannot discover how to do this (I would have though: rihgt click, and then delete, but this doesn't exist)
